I got a carnifex with FW crushing claws and 4 stealers finished, though it turns out one of them is a hormaguant Guess thats what I get for grabbing stuff from the pile of primed nids. I've got pics, but cant find the usb to mini cord for the camera, so expect pic dumps when a package arrives from newegg.

I got a package from Mr. Nids last night, so I will be doing up a tank next I think. My brother is going to ork some of the tanks out, so be sure to check his pmblog as well.

I'm pretty sure I have accidentally started IG at this point. In said box were about 35 DKoK guys, plus I have maybe 50 Cadians and a dozen Elysians. I hate it when I dont mean to start armies. Almost as much as my wallet does. Anyone interested in some Tau stuff? I dont think I want to start them and IG with the price hikes.

I fight the GW foolishness by buying everything I can second hand or trading for it.

I still have a stockpile from my mass purchase before the last price hike. Not really sure why I buy more, I have enough to last at least a year.

Rippers. I like doing these because I can really go nuts with the basing. I only put 3 on each base because I get way more swarms out of the rippers.




I LOVE the FW Crushing Claws, so I had to put one on a Carnifex. Not sure why I decided to do it before I did any other Carnis.





And some more Stealers, just gotta keep pushing through the hoard troops, so I can have a functional army at some point.





Yeah, I know that 4th one isn't a Genestealer, but I grabbed him out of the pile, so he's getting lumped in with em. Dang stabby gaunt.

Very nice work WM. Man those front claws on the stealers look disproportionately huge... are they all like that?

I like the rippers running over bits of Necron, and I agree with you... "playing" with the ripper bases is the best part of doing them!

I agree with Gits, but having played the little buggers I can say that they do indeed come that way. I think it's to make them seem intimidating and rationalize the crazy amounts of rending they can do with them! The genestealers are sneaky, they pop up on a side of the board and hug all of the important units I really do love the paints WM! The carnifex with the crushers looks mean, you are really tempting me back towards the nids! Keep up the good work!

I like taking stealers with a Swarmlord to basically pick which side they come from. Wish there was an actual model for him though, I feel bad using my tyrant as one all the time.

I got most of a Hellhammer done, but ran out of Badab Black, so it is on hold. I have it a nice grey color, kind of showroom fresh. Not sure if I want to keep it simple, or do some sore of camo pattern, or a ton of weathering, or what, Also started a bunch more nids, including tyrant guard, warriors, rippers, and a pyrovore.

They Are "finished" shots, for now anyways. I'm planning on adding some color to vents things and claws, as well as doing some feathering lines on the carapace, but that will come later. For now I want to get things to tabletop standard.

Gotcha, I was gonna say. You are capable of better IMHO. But I can understand just getting to tabletop standard for now. There's a lot of nids to be painted

So what do you guys think of using the gray (adeptis battlegrey) with a badab black wash in the vent things, both on the carapace and the flesh? And then how about the same on the claws/talons/etc as well?

I think you need to take advantage of the vents to add some color to the model.

Any suggestions? I dont really want to add a red or blue, I'm not a fan of schemes with to many different colors (except on orks, then its cool). I hate the white/purple ones gw use for instance.

I use "Dwarf Flesh" washed with Baal Red. Gives a muted pinkish tone. You could use the same flesh tone but wash it with something different. Or a yellowish undercoat with a green wash.


The effect can be subtle or strong depending on how diluted or how many layers of wash I use.

I agree, i think a little more green on the models will help. Definitely wanna add color tho. Avoid grey and black

They should be similar to the color on the insides of the mouths of your critters...

I'll give it a try on one of the Warriors that I got used and is a bit chalky below the knees. It'd give me an excuse to Simple Green him if I dont like it.

@ Gits - I'm thinking a more muted green. Not sure how well it translates in the pics, but the green there is a base of DA green, then snot green, then scorpion green with 1:1 Ard coat : Scorpion Green on top for an acid or slim look. But maybe bright is the way to go?

Yeah, I'd mute it some... the vents are exposed to air all the time (unlike the mouth) so the exposed areas there would be less gelatinous... especially if their purpose was some sort of gas exchange.

That being said... if it isn't bright, no one is going to see it. Why don't you start with a simple scorp green w/ a Thrakka Green wash... one layer. If it's too bright, try another layer of wash until you get it where you want it. Also no 'ard coat... you're going for kind of a moist leathery look, not drooling ooze.

No pics yet (at work), but I went with a scorpion green with 1 wash of thraka and 1 was of devlin and it looks great! Tried doing the claws with a rotting flesh base and devlin wash as well, but it looks pretty much the same as the bleached bone base. I'll get some pics up tonight for better feedback, but I think I'll start going through the nids I've done before getting into to much new stuff.

Also got a Hellhammer to the point where its going to sit untill I decide if it needs camo/squad markings/etc. Was my first IG tank, and I have to say that I hate rivets a little bit more now.

I managed to blow through all 119 episodes of The Office on netflix while painting and modeling over the last week and a half. And Shao Kahn is a jerkbag cheater in story mode. Thus concludes where all of my free time has gone recently.

Ok, picture time. 1st off, the new and improved nid color scheme. I've got 2 more warriors and a pyrovore finished, but ordered the wrong grey paint from gw, so I cant base them. Pics when I get the correct paint to go.

And, as seen in the background, a Hellhammer I got in a trade from Mr. Nids. Pretty plain, but I'm happy with it.





Oh, and I'm in the process of adding the green gills (or whatever they are) to the other nids.

That green helps finish them off nicely wm!
