Hello
I've never played the 40k table top game before, my experience with the 40k universe has mostly been me playing Dawn of War 1 and 2 (mostly 2), in addition to many a hour looking on the 40k wiki at the lore (which is awesome). However, now that I'm in college and there's a large 40k community here, I'm probably going to be getting into the table top.
I still have to play a few games before I settle on an army, but so far, going by borrowed codex's and rules, I'm seriously considering playing a Space Marine, drop pod focused army. Is that a viable strategy, because it looks cool in my opinion, but I don't know hoe well it might actually play. That being said, I haven't dedicated my heart to playing space marines, and I've also been looking at Orks. I don't really know much about how they play, only that they like to CHARGE their enemies, and their lore is freaking hysterical.

Welcome to dakka! As for tactics drop pods can do very well but this is better asked in the tactics section of the forum. As for orks yes they are awesome and I personally love everything about them.
