My wife and I are planning a trip to Europe next year and was wondering if Games Workshop had tours or anything else of their main offices.
Can anyone supply me with locations, contact information or any information on visiting Nottingham or any thing Games Workshop that is good in the area.

Thanks

Yeah, if you do go make sure you have a high quality map and directions, the ones on the GW site are hopeless.

Warhammer World ain't what it used to be; the miniatures hall is OK, the gaming room is big, but it's not really what I'd call a tourist attraction. They don't have all the Gamesday displays and large scale models in a museum any more (and those were worth a look). You can pick up some Forgeworld stuff in the store though. Nottingham and the surrounds are worth a visit, especially if you like your beer; the UK's oldest pubs are here. In short I guess I'm saying don't come especially for Warhammer World, you'll probably be a bit disappointed.

GW's head office is in Nottingham ( well, the ouskirts of technically ).

They don't do tours around the offices or manufacturing facilities .. ( generally anyway.. never what you know right ? ) but they do have "Warhammer World there

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=&categoryId=2200008§ion=&pIndex=1&aId=6900041a&start=2&multiPageMode=true

which is free to enter/visit. And the food and drink in the attached Bugman's Bar is actually pretty reasonable, both with regards to price and quality.

The museum/exhibition hall upstairs will bring back some memories if you've been in the hobby for a while, it is cool to see that model/diorama etc etc that you recall from XX years ago.

If you're in the area then, as a hobbyist, it's worth popping into visit. But it's not like an all day extravaganza of excitement .. especially for your good lady I would suspect.

Nottingham as a city is pretty cool, there's a fair bit to do in the city itself and the surrounding area.

hope that helps !

The food is better than it used to be though. The bar produces food easily on par with Wetherspoons and for the same price. Yes, I'm complementing GW on their prices.

Anyway, to bring back old memories and more, check out this thread where I put up all my old photos of the place from over 10 years ago.

Oh yes, they now also have the Jes Goodwin approved true scale space marine, for you to see how you'd measure up.

Recently, after a bit of a sort out/tidy up they had some old/classic games on sale... dirt cheap they were as well

Jedi152 wrote:So i went to WW for lunch today and in Bugman's Bar they have some classic games for sale:

Blood Bowl 2nd ed. (£30) - it made a point of saying there were only 4 copies available, and i could onyl see 2 on the shelf.
Kerrunch! (£25)
Mighty Warriors (£25)
Dragon Masters (£25)
Warhammer 4th ed. Battle Magic (£25)

The boxes aren't sealed but everything in them is new on sprues.

They also have a selection of combat cards for £2 a pack.

I grabbed a copy of Dragon Masters and a set of each combat cards. I wish i'd bought more now...

Jedi152 wrote:Went at lunch today and grabbed the last Mighty Warriors.

They still have Kerrunch, Battle Magic, Grudge of Drong, Tears of Isha, Digganob, Squat Warlords and Hive War.

Interesting to note they've dropped the price of the Bugman's game to £20 too, so i grabbed a copy. I guess it wasn't selling for £30, especially since you don't even get any minis in it.

They don't have the museum any more? If they don't I'd say it wasn't worth going.

A trip to Nottingham is worth it anyway. It's a nice old medieval town and the Castle is a well worth a visit. The GW HQ is ok, Bugmans is nice and the beer and food are great, the miniatures hall is worth it, just to see the fantastic mini's painted by the 'eavy metal peeps.

Bugger the prices - you're complimenting GW on their food. That's the weirdest thing I've read all week...

Agreed. If you are going to be in the area go, but don't make a trip.

But if you are visiting "Europe" I would sugest that Nottingham is a slightly odd place to go when there are other places to see in the UK. It all depends on where else you are plaing to go in Europe or the UK. It may not seem like it but they are big places to travel around.

It is pretty good though, but some very odd choices. They do a range of burgers, one of which is chicken and banana fritters...

There was a thread on visiting GW HQ by train from London a few months ago. The main thing I remember is the advice to take a taxi from the station because the building is on a hard to find industrial estate.

You can find out train ticket times and prices from Thetrainline.com.

The cheapest prices are got by booking at least a week in advance.

I was in the UK for the first time last year on business. Managed to get up to Nottingham and check out Warhammer World one evening. The hilights for me:
- Bugman's Bar has some pretty good food, and the gift shop beside it has some only-available-here stuff, including a mini of Bugman himself.
- The mini gallery was quite cool. It added a new level of awesome for me, seeing all the figures from the codecies inches from my face.
- The mini gallery also has some very cool dioramas and stuff from GW past (Battlecars, anyone?)
- The gaming area is huge and has some awesome terrain. I tried to get pictures of every table.
- I got to meet a Scotsman. Yes, I know that sounds moronic, but I'm from the central US. Nice guy. I think he was speaking English, but it was kind of hard to tell. Apparently "ferty-KAY is fer da wimmens"

But like others said before, it's not exactly a theme park and there's not a whole lot you can do outside the mini gallery, aside from eating at Bugman's or gaming at the cool tables. Or in Bugman's.

Warhammer world is what you make of it I think. If you go when there's a campaign weekend or tournament on, you get to see it at its best - a massive gaming hall, fantastic scenery and masses of concurrent games. On the downside, all those people mean there's inevitably queues and delays in direct order deliveries.

The miniatures hall / museum is good enough - plenty of old models from army books / codices etc, plus some older models, new releases and showcases (hobbyist armies or golden demon winners). The rolling art exhibitions are nice enough, the FW models in stock and ability to order figures on the spot is handy, Bugmans is OK for a spot of food and a drink.

Think of it as a big shop with a few added bonuses and a big gaming hall and you won't go wrong. If you're expecting Disney World, you'll be disappointed. Unless you're going for some gaming, I think there's 2-3 hours of value at most.

In Nottingham itself, it's an average UK town. There's a nice new contemporary art gallery, the Castle has got a pretty ecclectic museum/gallery, and the Galleries of Justice is worth a visit. Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem claims to be England's oldest pub, but there are masses of nice pubs and bars in Nottingham. The Malt Cross is in a Victorian music hall, Kean's Head is great for real ales and The Cock and Hoop does very nice food. There's a nice little arthouse cinema (the Broadway) and masses and masses of shops!

In the wider area, I'd suggest visiting the Peak District rather than Nottinghamshire; much more in the way of great scenery, little village pubs if that's your thing.

Don't know if it still works but years ago If I took a taxi to GW HQ all you needed to tell them was "To the Reikstag please" and they knew where to go.

It is strange, when they had the cool displays the gaming hall looked crap (it still had the lines from the volleyball field that used to be in the hall) and when they turned the gaming hall into the castle courtyard they took what was good away.

Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun . . .
