I am thinking of doing some commission work to earn a bit of hobby money. What do people think about this? Is it a hassle and not worth it or good money and quite rewarding?

I think you're certaily good enough. Not sure about the economics of it all.

The biggest thing is communication and turn around time (not even fast, just expected). If you can do that, you should be good.

Guess the other thing is remembering you arent going to make boat loads of money. Pretty sure most of the commissioners Ive worked with have made ~minimum wage. Paying more than 15-20 for standard infantry is rough to convince people to do without a well established portfolio of commission work in the past. The up swing is you get to work on varied projects and models you wouldn't normally.

You are dead right Whalemusic360, i don't think I would do army commissions unless they were to a very basic table top standard and I could airbrush two main colours. I was thinking one off general of the army type models or display pieces done to my Demon standard with a fairly lengthy turn around. I was also thinking of just one at a time so I don't get bogged down. I think I have a fairly good portfolio of work to show as examples and I have now made the final at demons 5 times even if I haven't placed yet. Should inspire some confidence hopefully.

If you did open up to small groups, I'd likely be down for a squad here and there I could slowly turn into an army. Offering "levels" seems to be a popular option for commission painters, doing a troop level on most and spending more times on Sgts and even more on HQs, for an appropriate up charge. Kind of like what you've done to your EW space marines here and less like your recent Nurgle Termis.

Ok guys, you two can be the first two, pm me with what you are interested in and I'll have a think about price. It can be a good taster to see if I can get on with this. Well this could be a new chapter in my modeling life.

This is about two evenings work so far, just started some of the interior detail. The Warhound will hopefully accompany my Emperor's Wings into battle at the Throne of Skulls tournament at the end of March up at Warhammer World! I am painting him in the colours of the Legio Astorum, also known as The Warp Runners. He is currently armed with a Twin Turbo Laser Destructor and a Plasma Destructor but I am toying with the idea of ordering a second Turbo laser Destructor for 4 strength D shots in the game! I will keep you all posted with progress.

So managed to put some more painting time in tonight. Note to self, do not under any circumstances throw away the unique blue mix of paint until you finish airbrushing everywhere that needs that colour! Damn I was annoyed with myself when I forgot to check the legs and missed loads of areas on them.
Anyway started to do some work on some of the screens and the crew. Here are some pics!

I need to do a bit more of the interior detail and then I can assemble him for the final exterior work. I must say this is a lovely model, Forge World have done a really good job!

These are just internal cut-away shots of bits of the titan as it's shields are absorbing heavy fire from an ork gargant. The shudder is the residual effect of the inertial dampening systems inside the vehicle from the shock-wave from a blast that would normally knock it over.

It's interesting to see the build of a luscious pattern compaired to my mars pattern Ramos has been doing.

Oooh I must pop over and see what he is up to!

So I had my first game witht the Titan the other day, it was such fun it was worth reporting on here. I played marines with the Warhound, Mike played his new Nids. It was the diagonal set up with 4 objectives each worth 3vps. He had 2 flyrants, hive crone, tervigon + 30 Gaunts, venomthrope, 3 warriors, Mawlock and a Trygon. I had the titan, 3 dev centurions graved up, tactical squad, scout squad and a bike squad and captain on bike. I made a mistake and didn't have 5 bikes in my squad, Mike kindly allowed it to still be scoring. The end of the Tyranids first turn looked like this(he went first)



Turn 2 the hive crone assaulted the centurions, the 2 flyrants attacked the warhound in combat. The mawlock miss happed and the trygon came up.



By turn 3 i had killed both his flyrants in combat and the Storm Talon had killed the Hive Crone after the centurion serg had run off in his combat turn, this gained me first blood and warlord. The D weapon and the plasma destructor started to take it's toll, killing the Tervigon in a one shot nad killing quite a few termagaunts.



The warhound now free surged forward killing more stuff but it was all too little too late as my tactical squad died horribly as did the biker squad. This left me only the scouts as a scoring unit.



I ended up loosing 9 - 2 on vps as he had warlord, line braker, taken 3 HPs off the Titan and held 2 objectives as I could just not kill enough Gaunts. My scouts were stuck up the building and the game ended on turn 5. The Titan was awesome but I had so few units in the remaining points that it was very tough to win. It was therefore not truly unbalanced. I also loved using my titan even if he wasn't finished.

Played my first game of Escalation the other day. Great fun!

Yes I saw that on your blog Gits, I don't think it is anywhere near as broken as some people imagine. It is also great to get to use some of my really big models.

Yeah... I may actually have to convert & paint up my stompa & baneblades now!

I have many super heavies for my Guard, I think the current count is like 10 or something. I have also had it confirmed by a trusted source that with the new Guard release in March they will get knights, ie the big walker things like small titans from epic a couple of editions ago. That should be so cool! I am already saving in anticipation!

I am hoping that any imperial force can take them. A bit like the titans. In other news, my new airbrush arrived today! Quite excited, the compressor has a tank and regulator/moisture trap. It came with two airbrushes which are quite different from my pasche but still gravity fed dual action, I could even have three colours on the go at once! Won't get to fire it up tonight but I'm looking forward to it.

WOW!!! What a really fantastic thread, such a beautiful army, I can't wait to see this force grow. This inspires me to keep pushing on with my own space marine project. Have you done any kind of back story for your chapter?
