Subject: The trouble with turtles: Space marines have pets now
I'm imagining an Australian shouting "Hey, Gryph-o!" over and over again, very loudly.
My painting log is full of snakes Have any retro, vintage, or out of print models? Show them off here! Games I play: 40k (CSM, Necrons); AoS/Fantasy (Seraphon/Lizardmen); Warcry; Marvel Crisis Protocol; Wargods of Olympus/Aegyptus; Mythos

Thanks everyone for all the kind words on the ogryph! It was a fun head swap to do, a lot of trimming around the neck required though. I've got another one i'm working on, i just don't want to mess it up so i'm being careful.
My life is still... pretty much a mess right now but doing random hobby things is helping. And how's this for random?
Yup, i have added to my collection of tiny gryph hounds and their friends. I like how this head swap worked out. He's a wide eyed preacher, shoutin' about how there'll be no butter in the realms of chaos!

New head definitely sells the vibe of Loud n Preachy! Love how similar the gryph-hound's expression (and hairdo) is to his human buddy's. It's like when dogs look like their owners!
I find that hobby can often be a good way to dip a toe in the productivity well...it'll start with a muck around or some dry fitting and after a while I've lost half an hour in actual creative fun! Of course, that requires avoiding the guilt/shame spiral that is always lurking for spending time on little army mans instead of dealing with the nonstop piling up of adult responsibilities...aaaah. I am glad you are finding some peace or distraction or joy in your work and hope it continues that way.
Teacup lady makes me happy. I seem to remember more of these Mrs Nesbitt sisters from earlier in the blog but couldn't find them going back through the pages. Am i going crazy?
I did love revisiting some of your past projects - I forgot that the ogryph has a friend already. I have not seen an owl companion in a while though, despite promises of more...!
Keep on trucking turtles. I always get a kick out of visiting - thank you for taking the time to share your enthusiasm and creativity!

I agree with all of this. And I found myself going back through your blog to some of the earlier pages I never visited. I made some commentary but will put it in a spoiler as it's pretty long.
Spoiler:

So it's back to the marines and otters and otters with marines for me, as you will see... here:
still some tweaking to do on the hands, but i hope you can see that he is instructing his war otter on the finer points of bug hunting.
Naturally, what else would he be doing?
amazingturtles wrote:Yeah, I'm having a lot of fun with all of the neat little things in there. Plus with some extra bits i got lying around, I think i might be able to make six guys out of it instead of five.
So here is my experimental test captain/commander/leader type guy. Lots of cleaning up to do on him
But I tried to pose him with the dog looking up to him in expectation and his shield arm shielding the otter. The head is probably from some chaos thing (heresy!) but i love it. I love it too much.
This head is fantastic! So much adoration from the dog for the face.

I have at last rectified the lack of turtles in this thread:
The turtle/tortoise is quite big. i am thinking of somehow making it into a counts as dreadnought, if i can find the right bits.
That is one heck of a turtle. I don't want to push your blog or hobby in any direction, because the whimsy of it is a vast part of its charm. But, I would love to see more of this beautiful turtle.
amazingturtles wrote:Thank you! i hope you enjoyed it, i'm amazed that i've kept going with sometimes
here is... a mess of an idea. the painting is horrible on the marine, he is going to be cleaned, but i think the owl looks good! what primaris captain needs a sword when he can have an owl.
more turtles to come.
I just painted this Captain model and foolishly gave him a sword instead of an owl.
amazingturtles wrote:A pack turtle/objective!
That is all for now.
amazingturtles wrote:I finally did some more work on something i started a while ago!
Finishing things! is... still not something i do. because he is not finished.
Finishing things is sort of overrated. A beautiful hawk, though.
amazingturtles wrote:Hm... well, he's not actually wilder yet. In fact he is probably too tame for chaos. But i tried to get the "intoning from a book" thing going, and I think it worked.
Intoning with a power fist.
Next: I had actually lost my container that had all my various little animals in, but now it is found! So, pets!
Intoning with a power fist is the only way to intone. If they don't listen, you bash them in the face.
Honestly that is kind of the idea i want for my chaos marines. They don't much like any of the gods, i think. Maybe they just worship the concept of chaos. Does that make them sounds like chaos hipsters? maybe
. . .
In the meantime, here is an objective of great import: tiny chickens!
So tiny
Only you, Turtles, can go from Chaos Hipsters to tiny chickens in one post. Never stop.

Owls have no time for anyone's nonsense, not even a space marine.
Meanwhile!
"Calm yourself, Sergeant Wiggles. Let us see what this tiny abhuman has to say,"
Very kind to give the small abhuman a voice. Let him talk, then sick the otter on him?
Finally, I find your work to be a wonderful break from all the seriousness of this hobby. After all, we're a bunch of grown-ass adults playing with toys.
Seriously. Don't ever stop.
Dang. Thank you guys so much, and i really, really mean it! It's been a while since i looked back through this blog on my own, djjazzyjeff. The dog captain is still one of my favorites. A lot of them are in boxes right now, i'm once again in the process of moving. But both turtles and owls shall return, i swear it!
Tzurk, there are more teacup sisters further back! i was testing out a larger ceramic cup as a banner type thing, but i didn't like how it fit. Also, i'm still thinking of calling them the Order of the Bad Neighbor
Thank you everyone. I said i already but i need to say it again. This forum has helped me a lot
(also, i guess no one caught the cold comfort farm reference with "no butter in the realms of chaos"?)
Today i have a simple kit bash, for use with my mutants and strays i think. the body is the frostgrave gnoll, the arms and gun from neophyte hybrids i think
I'm still here!

tzurk wrote:it means gnoll worries, for the rest of your days...!
Good luck with the move. Never my favourite time!
We only just finished unpacking our spare room after being here for nearly two years...
Yeah, moving is never fun. I do like orginizing after it's done though! Organizing things actually relaxes me. Thank you also, both for the kind words and for getting that song into my head....
Well it wouldn't be post without pictures so here we go!
First another gnoll:
I like his expression!
and one more tea sister, reading from the book of tea, chapter one
"Some people would answer that they don’t like tea in itself, that they only drink it in order to be warmed and stimulated, and they need sugar to take the taste away. To those misguided people I would say: Try drinking tea without sugar for, say, a fortnight and it is very unlikely that you will ever want to ruin your tea by sweetening it again."
Amen.

I completely reject and abhor the sweet-tea heresy. I bow at the altar of the God of Bitter Tea.
I'm starting to love these gnolls. I always got kind of weasel/possum/ferret vibes from them, and the scavenger look matches the Molotov cocktails really well!

Bitter tea is the only tea. It is life!
I love 'em too, they're easy little conversions and the faces have so much character!
aku-chan wrote:Love the Gnoll! He looks so happy that he found his bundle of dynamite.
Thank you! He really is quite joyful.
This will probably be my last post on this blog while i'm moving so until next time, enjoy this sci-fi baby rising from a cup of tea
See you!

Thank you both! I'll be working on more with both soon, i think. The move has taken time but we're getting to the point where not everything is in boxes! Most things yes, but not everything
I've had more time for setting up silly little quarantine coop games with what i have out so i thought i'd share a picture of that.
Here we see the friendly not at all sinister ur-25 and friends! Yes, they are friends. In this scenario they are. What are they doing? Where will they go?
What a mystery!

UR-025 must’ve been turned by the fortress to be hanging out with those ruffians. I’m glad the move went ok, hopefully the boxes don’t take too long to unpack!
Edit: I’m just gonna leave this here... if you haven’t already, you should check it out next!

Heck yeah turtles!
It's been a bit so here's a space marine with a pet! A pet frog, in this case
Is the head too small? I always worry about that

The head is perfect...somehow weirdly looks exactly like the kind of guy who would have a pet frog.
I have been reading your blog too!
I don't know whether to post here about it or there about it - but I am really enjoying your writing. The first few had a strong narrative feel to them so it has been really nice to see a story start to grow with Yolig and his adventures.
Thank you for sharing them! Can't wait to see more PS - the terrain in the batrep pics is beautiful!

Funny that you say that because that's what i've been thinking of! I've got otter marines, why not frog marines as well! I just need to find the right color... green? But which green?
gobert wrote:I reckon with a rash like that he can do whatever he wants!

These are the only truths.
Viterbi wrote:Head looks great, not small at all. And that 'stache is epic! Same time he looks very friendly, probably asking people, if they want to lick his toad
Haha, thanks! Marines who give themselves visions of the emperor through hallucinogenic toads... probably not canon, but fun enough to make up for it?

Thank you! I'm glad that you've been enjoying those! And that someone is reading them, ha. I've got more adventures for Yolig and Co. coming soon. I've been trying to think of the right way to post things here.... maybe preview pics?
In the meantime (i say that a lot) here is another frog marine. Is he about to toss the frog?
Who knows
