Soooo...I don't mean to sound all anxious or nothing, but is anyone else a bit nervous that nearly all the rumored changes in the coming 6th edition hose the recently-redeemed Dark Eldar Codex?

-Covers drops to 5+: A two-bladed sword. It means weapons like the disintegrators and dark lances will get saved less often, but it also means out turbo-boosting vehicles, hellions, wyches and whatnot will be even more vulnerable. In fact, if you have flickerfields, you may not bother with partial cover at all anymore.

-FNP drops to 5+: A bitg nerf to our first pain token ability for an army that has abysmal saves overall.

-Flyers: Mean other armies can more easily match the Dark Eldar's greatest asset...speed.

-Psychic cards/phase: A bit question mark here. The main fear is a WHFB-style psyker system that gives colossal boosts, something that DE will have no part in or counter to other than a single, luck-based piece of wargear (Crucible of malediction).

-Weak Unreliable CC: Alpha strikes, variable charges, reactive fire, power weapons being AP3 changes a lot about DE CC, that relies on nuking elites units and/or tarpitting them. If this holds, Incubi and agonizers can no longer do squat against terminator and artificer armor, reactive fire will at least halve any unit charging into CC, and tarpitting nwill be suicide if there is any other enemy unit in walking range. It would be a death knell for hybrid lists and a written command to go all-shooty venomspam, all of the time.

-Different Instant Death Mechanic: Given the fragility of our ICs, this may be a bit of a help. Darklight weapons would still cause 2 direct wounds to most dangerous enemies, and De would not quite need to fear a stray scatter laser shot Insta-killing Lelith Vesperax.

I know we know nothing yet, but until the release, all we can do is kvetch.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.

Yeah, and all the talk I've heard about nerfing mech such as making vehicles more fragile or making it more dangerous to the passengers of transports hasn't exactly got me excited for 6th edition in the least.

It's a little worrying... but without seeing all the cards in our hand we just don't know. Reforms to the core rules might have some unexpected bonuses that counter this apparent nerfs.

Here's hoping...

EDIT: Oh, and the titles wrong. Should say 6th.

All these little changes that have been put forward look worrying for us at the moment, but you have to remember that we're looking at things in a vacume. The other 99.9% of the rule book might be really benificial to us.

I can't remember who it was exactly, but I recall one of the rumour mongers (I wouldn't have comited it to memory if it wasnt one of the ones I think of as being trustworthy ) said that DE players would be happy with the new edition over all though, so dont lose hope yet!

If the Move-Assault-Shoot rumour is true, than surely running is out of the window, and thus Fleet of Foot sucks for us?

Although I'm sure I read that Fast vehicles can only be hit on a 6, so if that's true then that's a bonus

I would imagine it'd be in the move phase now. It'd be pretty shocking if it were removed entirely.

Spliter rifles being able to get two shots at max range will also allow our warriors to deal more damage without having to get too close.

So it has that going for it.

I've got to say, I'll be very disappointed if I have to re-tool my Wych cult WWP army into a Kabalite shooting army. One of the key things a new edition should not do is invalidate existing army formats. Perhaps changes to movement and charging might see them making it to the fronts lines, though.

It shouldn't, but it always does.

Look at the Tau Fish of Fury build, or Footcron hordes once the glancing hit could no longer wreck vehicles...

I'm hoping we don't get too buttfethed, but frankly it's all about the SM, and always will be.

What army gets 2+ armour the most? - SM

What army has ready access to 3+ armour, negating the need for cover saves most of the time - SM again..

What army stands to benefit most from reactive fire before being charged? - SM again..

I'm not going to get too bent out of shape just yet. I want to read the new rules first.

THEN i'll get bent out of shape

I think the OP described it best when he called it getting 'jumpy.' I am definitely starting to get jumpy. But I shall not despair until I see the rules!

It's too soon to tell.
Without knowing all the rules and how they interact, you just can't tell.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

If it were one or two rumors that would be harsh on us, I'd laugh it off and move on without worry.

The fact that with rare exceptions all of the rumors seem to be detrimental to DE is what worries me. If 95% of these rumors are untrue, that means 5% are.

That being said, we don't know what the future will hold. There's no point in declaring the end of the world before it happens. I can say that I'm certainly not looking forward to 6th edition.

If a tenth of the rumors are true, the power gap between marines and xenos armies will just grow exponentially.

Here's one that scares me for BA and DE

When you shoot you roll to hit depending on the
speed of your target. Fast vehicles you always need
a 6.

All your vehicles are fast! Even the bloody raider will take a ton to take down as it is.

There's some more as well..

In kill point missions you get kill points based on
what the units points cost, so for example a
landraider would be worth 5 kill points & a unit of marines 3pts.

im not overly worried... yes changes will mean existing lists may have issues... but its the same for everyone. since i play mainly shooty armies, it seems shooting lists get a big boost. vehicle changes may affect things, but really, venomspam lists dont loose alot, since they have so many cheap vehicles anyway.

wait for the actual rules to come out before posting your DE army on ebay. and - i might add that DE dex was written close to when 6th was being wrote. so its possible DE, crons and GK all fare pretty well in the change over. older dex's might have more issues....like orks tau or eldar.

I tell myself exactly that. However, while I can look at the GK and Necron codices and see stuff that jives with the rumored ยจth Ed changes, the DE codex has tons of things that go directly against the rumors.

Examples:

-Baron Sathonyx: +1 to see who goes first, Skilled Flyer. Except rumors say the roll to go first is going away, and hellions will be flying infantry, which doesn't need skilled flyer. Ooops.

-A whole build (haemonculi coven) made feasible by having army-wide 4+ FNP. Soon to be 5+ and easier to negate.

-Asdrubael Vect: 4+ to steal initiative. Not 4+ re recover some stratagem points? Weird.

-The whole ASSAULT-then-SHOOT mechanic takes a lot of wind out of having fast open assaulty trasnports with dark lances, blast pistols and so on.

Honestly, I see orks as potentially even more hosed. Tau, on the other hand, are a big mixed bag given the amount of shooty goodness that has been rumored and the lower cover/fnp saves their targets will get.

You think DE have it bad currently?

Tau don't have any pluses, everyone else has railguns, even NIDS, it's so dumb.

But that said, I won't make any decisions until I see the book. If they carbon copied 8th fantasy for 40k, GW BE DAMNED.
