Its obvious. This summer "Vengeance is coming" but won't actually arrive until Autumn.

If it's before the equinox, it's still summer.

Meh, that video could have given you a free puppy and a hummer and you still would have complained about it.

Does not compute.

Really? Are you serious, or is my sarcasm meter just broken? I think he explained it rather precisely, but I'll give it a shot too.

You quoted almost three dozen people (yourself included) who, at the moment of first sight, wanted to drop the ~$100 without further question. If the first time you had seen those pics was right next to the "Pre-Order" button on the GW website, GW would have their three grand in pocket instantly. Instead, the pre-order doesn't go up until next Saturday, but you've seen the pics now.

If even one of those people changes his mind between now and Saturday, then GW has lost money. That means "showing things at the last minute" makes more money than "showing things early". When you're a corporation, and you find out that X makes more money, then that is what you are supposed to do.

Honestly, BOTH of you are being completely unscientific about it and shouldn't be drawing any marketing strategy conclusions about some words typed by a handful of people on an electronic message board.

They have confirmed this with their own sales figures. They printed an official statement of exactly that in their annual financial report, which means unless you believe they have committed the actual crime of defrauding investors (as opposed to merely figuratively robbing us blind), then you have to accept it as fact. You don't have to like it - I'm sure none of us do. But, unfortunately, they are right on this one.

I don't even know where to start with that other than to say neither you nor GW can really know whether or not they would have done better with a different strategy -- whatever that might be.

Back OT, if we see poses like that in the eventual cultist boxed set (assuming cultists don't become the new deffkoptas), they'll work pretty well for plague zombies. What's pictured already looks a little "shambly." They also don't look completely overloaded in chaos symbols, which is a positive if the Genestealer Cult rumors come true. Of course, it's a grainy pic of one model.

Hey, I can do anecdotal evidence and hypothetical situations too!

Bobby plays 40k, and is interested in either DA or Chaos. But he doesn't have a clue when anything is coming out, because, let's face it, GW hasn't got the best track record when it comes to telling people anything.
So Bobby, not knowing that the shiny new starter set is coming out, uses the money that would have been put to that to buy something else instead. A few weeks later, when the set is released, Bobby's already spent the money he would have put aside for the starter set, and doesn't buy it.

Looks like GW lost some money right there.

I will hold my excitement until I see a picture of the Chaplin. My local FLGS is setting up trades for two people to buy the box and split the contents, which means I need to find a way to make $60 FAST.

I'm glad to finally see some new chaos releases, it's been far to long in my opinion. I was expecting it to be CSM in this starter set and I'm pretty sure everyone new Space Marines would be the other army this time (again...)I was hoping for a new Chaos dreadnought model though, I would have to buy mine from FW because the GW version to be frank is hideous. I'll gladly take a Hellbrute so long as it isn't too expensive when it's released seperate.

I don't think this was directed for new beginners either, I mean anyone who really just now got into the hobby probably wouldn't know who the DA are. I'm annoyed by the fact that now there are going to be 4 different codexes for Space Marines, counting GK. Considering there are some armies that haven't had a new release in years. (Tau, and the Eldar haven't had very much attention either.)

Is that copy pasted from every complaint about GW ever?

Regarding the dreadnought. I think there will be a new one when the Codex is released in October. The FW are nice looking though. A good way to bring iconography if you play a specific legion.

According to certain schools of financial thought, all of us are essentially vacant morons with no capacity for higher reasoning who will buy whatever we are told to buy providing the marketing material is carefully constructed and controlled in order to exploit certain psychological qualities. Followers of said school think that there is essentially no limit on how much a person will spend on an "impulse" purchase other than how much money they have in their account at the time. These people are, typically, also the kind of people who think that nothing matters except the next Quarterly result, that any actions taken in the context of capitalism are amoral despite them being considered immensely unethical in any other context, and that the purpose of a business is to funnel profits into the pockets of the board until it goes under, just in time for their old chums from Eton to swoop in with their "asset management" company to pick the bones clean.

As you can probably tell, I am unconvinced by any of the aforementioned positions

As to the piccies, I am actually stunned, the detail and posing is lovely, and despite the fact it would have been cool to have proper robed Chaos Cultists, I think these Cultists(if they all follow a similar aesthetic) are a masterstroke by GW. If someone really wants robed Cultists, there are any number of conversion options available, and actual models would have had a fairly limited applicability, but these chaps sit just at the point that you can use them for just about anything. Stock, with no modification, you can have; Cultists, Traitor Guard, Savlar Chem Dogs, Penal Legion, and Vraksian Renegades. With a simple head- and weapon-swap, you have Catachans that put the old Ramboguard to shame. When you add green stuff into the equation, these minis have massive potential; limiting the Melta-dread and Deffkoptas to the last starter set sold tons to Marine players and Orks, but these cultists, thanks to the Allies rules and their characterful-yet-broadly-applicable aesthetic, will sell to Chaos Marine, Traitor Guard, Imperial Guard, and Space Marine players of almost any stripe.

If all the Marine minis are as amazing as these few examples, I'm going to feel really bad chopping them up for Artscale-fodder, I might even keep one or two back just to enjoy painting them at some point.

Now, more piccehs! I want to see these "action-pose" Ravenwing, and if the Deathwing minis have new poses I can use.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Don't post the name of the store.

They would be losing 1 sale for every 2 they could have made instead of the 2 they would not get if people didn't split 1 because each person couldn't buy 1.

I don't even want to know what kind of GW Wrath that would bring.

Still can't believe there's no photos of Terms, Bikers, or Brute yet. Probably the 3 most talked about minis!

BEST POST I HAVE SEEN IN MONTHS.

OT: I am super excited about the new stuff. I had faith that GW would come through, what with the high-quality of Space Hulk and Island of Blood ("Yawnfleet had nice minis, even if it was a terrible idea to invest resources in it, in light of other possibilities)

I have been saving up for some time, and also I PLAN TO TRADE MY DARK ANGELS TO SOMEONE FOR THEIR CHAOS STUFF I really like everythign I've seen so far, and have plans for my heretics (I'm looking at you, Pupperts War )

This is what's called a "teaser".

I'm not going to get into it again as I have before, but put simply:
Teasers aren't there to provide a synopsis like an actual trailer is. They're there to "tease", to pique interest, and give an idea when to look for more information.
It does that fairly well--at least if you look at it from the POV of someone who does not frequent sites like Dakka.

Anyways: I like the Chaplain. Can't wait to see the Deathwing now...

Yeah...I have all the Space Hulk minis and they are amazing. These are incredible along the same lines. I've been considering purchasing this box for just the rulebook and either selling off the minis or just painting them up for some fun allies or something. But if both ranges look anything like what I've seen so far, I would like to expand both armies to a respectable force size.

Do we have any idea how limited that Chaplain is? I was planning on picking the set up a few weeks down the road, but if it's super limited, I'll have to make sure to preorder next week.
