@BoA: Actually the wheelie pose I have planned is essentially your jumping pose but the limbs will be a bit straighter.

@Reiko: I may give it a try... just once, but it'll take a LOT of green stuff to fill in the gaps/damage. Not looking forward to that.

I look forward to it if you do, but only if your confident on it (lets see how your GS-fu skills are )

My GS-fu sucks. I can fill gaps and make fairly crude purity seals... that's about it.

About certain things, yes. I've never worked well in 3-d... even when I was doing jewelry I was more comfortable in 2-d forms of embellishment (engraving, pierced work, etc). I dabble & can usually fake it reasonably well, but it's not anything I feel comfortable doing.

I like the little jetbikes they kinda look like mini BFG ships. The better proportioned heads also look rather fetching. Though googles wouldnt go amiss imo.

Another thing i like is the very unusual make up of your army list. It will make for an interesting group for sure.

Well, interesting night.

Decided on an 1850 pt game so I had to re-write my list. Turned out that 100 points can be mighty challenging to spend (as many ways to spend it as there were points). But... I finally got that sorted. First up was to add combi-plasmas to 3 of my sternguard. Modified the plasma portions of the Chapterhouse combiweapons for that. Painting is in process.

Second up was to add the grenade launchers to my scout bikes.

Third up was to build the 4th bike.

So, here are some pics of tonights efforts...

Biker #4: (his job is to die first, preserving the grenade launchers). He still needs green stuffing and some detail bits (as do they all).

And finally the whole squad together. I will add one more eventually, but these will do for now.

4th bike kind of reminds me of a jetski. It looks like he's cresting a wave.

Still a cool effect and now it has me wondering how jetbikes actually sound and travel.

Yeah, it does look like a jet ski doesn't it?

I always kind of envisioned a high pitched whine but these have rocket engines on the back, so I imagine they'd roar pretty well. Since I'm playing these as normal bikes, I figured I've have some fun and pose them as normal bikes too. Gives them more interest and "life".

Just so freakin' awesome Gits! love how they look, your ideas as always seem to be brought to life from your overactive brain to your dexterous hands in exactly the right manner! your jet bikes look 'right' the poses are active and the jetski pose is a touch of humor whilst still being a natural looking pose for him! great stuff my friend, and as I said before, can't wait to see them painted up

He's not leaping over anything... he's just showing off! Didn't you ever do this on your bike when you were a kid??

Well, see?? That just makes my point. IF you're good enough to ride a wheelie... it sets you apart from the crowd, so you flaunt it. (chicks dig the Enzyte bike pose) On a personal note, while popping wheelies was something my friends and I did all the time, none of us were good enough to ride one for any length of time. I have the scars to prove it.

With luck I may finish painting the combi-plasmas tonight, build and fit the dozer blades for the razorbacks... and start pulling the parts together for my libby. And if I get the whim, might even build a 5th bike... just so I can say this one squad is fully built.

It's a natural assumption given his pose Vit, I get that. I just look at bike scouts... specifically these jet bike scouts... as very free spirits. Men with all the talent, skills and devotion to be successful marines and servants of the Emperor but who would whither under the oppressive regime that normal infantry undergoes. So this allows the chapter to utilize them and train them over time, without crushing the free spirit that gives them so much passion & makes them so effective. I expect that much of the leadership of the chapter actually develops out of these squads just for those reasons. Well, those that don't kill themselves hot-rodding about in their jet bikes that is. :-)

You make good points, but I feel like a jetbike would be like a maglev train, silent annd very controlable. Over all great models, and no matter what you say the 4th biker is in MY pose

@BoA: Have you looked at the back of these bikes? (Hmmm... guess I haven't shown that yet.) There are like... 5 rocket engines in the back. These things would be anything but quiet. I'm assume there's some kind of anti grav component to allow them to be operated at lower speeds, but essentially they're rocket sleds.

I don't know, not in 40k in particular, whenever I hear "Jetbike" I think of these super advanced, silent, super energy efficient and super stable bikes.. Same with the Landspeeder, though with a high pitched whistling sound on it, yet still subtle. Like the bikes in Star Wars (the landspeeder)

@BoA: I think you're impression is very appropriate for the only real jet bike using race in 40k... that being the eldar bikes. Sleek, fast, subtlety in engineering would be highly valued.

Remember, Imperial technology has been sliding for thousands of years... so what they've got left is akin to WW1/WW2 design with some high tech bits tossed in. The fact that the Mantis Warriors still have functioning jet bikes at all is remarkable. But they don't really work like (eldar) jet bikes... these are no better than normal bikes... perhaps that's all the performance that the tech marines of the chapter can imbue them with. Their true "jet bike" nature being lost to the mists of time and Imperial degradation.

Ah Matrim... there has never been much "logic" in 40k fluff... and the logical aspects there are seem to get worse as time goes on. I write it off the being a stagnant, bureaucratic theocracy where only the few things that directly benefit the ruling power structure are allowed to advance, but only in minor ways. So the soldier's individual armor can improve, while the general fitness of the war machines & armaments (which could be turned against the power structure) do not.

Or it could be the old adage of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.'

Simply put the standard tank chassis used is highly reliable, easy to fix and adaptable. Why bother to try and upgrade to something that might not be so reliable?

IIRC changes to armour patterns and bolter patterns were because of flaws - a prime examble being the change of the clips on some bolt weapons - the previous design was prone to jamming (random Inquisitor knowledge win!).
