MW's are very remote from the rest of the Imperium, very independent and self sufficient and are known for using older equipment that they revere beyond the normal and maintain expertly. (Paraphrased from IA-10.)
Thus it seems logical that they'd have a few pieces of tech that were lost to most other chapters. Plus for my early army I'm really trying to roll the clock back to when I started playing 40k 20 years ago, so any of the old equipment that I can use, I'll take (if I can at all justify it).

I have 7 more bikes... enough for two squads of 5, so it's entirely possible you'll see that eventually. :-) Automatically Appended Next Post: And I quote myself for the second time in two days.... (this from another thread). Dragon Forge Design: Link below has a bunch of their bits including the power cables. Dragon Forge Design: Sculpting and Modeling Supplies His "African American Heads" are fantastic, they're what I'm using for my scout bikers. He also has some decent ammo feed belts, though I think there's one other maker out there with a little more variety. OH, and fantastic bases...
That answer your question graven? I've decided I'm going to make all the bikers from the same set of 10 "African American" heads. I figure the scouts were recruited from some hive-world bike gang, specifically well suited to the role. The are exquisite sculpts. Much finer than most GW sculpts if you look closely. (and normally I'm fine with GW sculpts)

Well, to be fair Gits the GW scout heads for the plastics are a bit flat and wide.
The metals had more character and those heads are rather sweet.

Yeah, I've heard people complain about the size of GW heads before. I guess I don't think about it much since nearly everything I make has a full helmet so I don't notice the size... but you're right on they scout heads... they're pretty huge and rather inhuman looking.
Must be the gene seed and organ transplants affecting the shape of the scout's heads... making them more resistant to damage. (yeah sure)

Gits, I' know you've used Chapterhouse Studios stuff before, how is it quality wise? I've got 2 Stormravens sitting in a UPS truck on their way to my school, and I was thinking of getting their conversion kit to elongate my stormravens to make them look bigger

I love their stuff. I can't say that every single thing CH makes is perfect... but I like them well enough to have contracted with them for my shoulder pads, I use their heads on my best conversions, and have a ton of their bits waiting for the projects to come 'round (for my army and both of my son's armies). I've never had issues with casting quality. And the Storm Raven kits were developed by Hits who is about as good as they get. Granted, I don't have one of the Storm Raven kits, so I can't comment on it specifically... however I have a number of their other vehicle upgrade kits and they're without question of high quality.
It can take a while to get stuff from them, so just relax and don't stress about it. Everything I have has been worth the wait.

If I may interject for Alfndrate? I personally am very fond of chapterhouse studio's quality and workmanship, I have quite a few of their product which i'm using in my own blog and they are great! good fitting with minimal work to sit correctly and the sharpness of the sculpts is excellent, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone, i'm actually looking forward to using the new product they have just released! it looks amazing!...
and gits, you da man! great work as always on the scouts i can't wait to see them with a coat of paint, they're gonna look very striking and be fun to play with just for the individuality alone! :-)

Was just looking at those Heads, The top right one seems to be modelled on Wesley Snipes from the film 'Blade' which is pretty awesome, then I noticed the one in the middle of the bottom row who seems to look a lot like Barack Obama, which, if true would be really awesome.

Actually, I think I've figured out how to make a scout "popping a wheelie" on his bike.... may just have to go ahead and build the full squad of 5 scout bikes just so I can "play" with the poses some more! :-) OH, and I found out some more about my next campaign game that's really cool. My opponent has the only other Badab War chapter in the campaign... the Red Scorpions! So were going to have an honest to God Badab War conflict next Saturday! I plan on doing a full blown battle report with pics and all... and it does give me enough time that I should get most things not only built but painted. We decided on 1850 pts, which will let me pad my 1750 pt list that I discussed earlier with a few more guys here and there to make it more robust. Should be a really fun time... I'm looking forward to it! I agree with you Asylum.... thought I might have seen George Foreman & Bob Marley (not a dead ringer but a reasonable facsimile) in there too but I couldn't be sure.

If I had any real skill at painting I would attempt a Chaplin Obama, but when you are re-creating someone who actually exists it helps if the model looks enough like them for it to be recognisable

Yeah, but you are forgetting Pulp Fiction -- 'The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides with the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon those with great vengeance and with furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know that my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.' THAT sounds like a chaplain (I am not sure why I have gone all quote crazy at the moment)

Thanks Reiko! Looking forward to building the last two for the squad. I had the wheelie guy put together last night but I hadn't put two and two together yet so I changed him into the turning pose you see in #3. I'll re-build him tonight. Then to come up with something interesting for #5... maybe I can dig through the unused arms and get some inspiration that way. I'll tell you one thing. Modifying the leg positions has been stone-cold-b*tch. I'm using a combination of the jeweler's saw, a heat gun and lots of green stuff.

No worries!
awww i was really looking forward to the wheelie :( still loving how you are making even the old (difficult to convert) RT era stuff converted and unique (and looking excellent i might add), major kudos to you! The leg sounds bad, i can only imagine the trouble that is causing, but with your list of tools, it sounds like you are ready to rumble
Let me think on some poses for the rest of the bikes, i know theres something brewing inside my head but its not quite ready yet....

Actually the leg mods for the wheelie are pretty minor... its the mods for #2 and #3 that have been such a monumental PITA. I'd love to do one (or more) crouching forward but the mods to the legs and arms for that would be closer to a complete re-build than a modification. I've been trying not to completely destroy the original figure in the mod... so far the most damage I've done is drilling the hole for the handlebars... kind of a necessary evil. Beyond that, I don't mess with the bike... want to keep it stock.

Mmmm PITA....wait....
I can see how you wouldnt want to do a complete re build (especially on the bikes), and how it wouldnt be the most fun putting the peices back together again.
They are very true to the originals so far though Gits, so dont worry about that
