Nice list Gits. I have nothing really to add. There are a lot of threads here that blow me away, yours included. Coming to Dakka Dakka quickly showed me how useless my stuff was compared to some of the stuff here... And the fact my thread has only a few followers is a testament to what I'm lacking as a painter and shows me how I both need & want to improve...

Damnit vent! I forgot your blog.... "Vent's various ventures" is absolutely one that really inspired me as well. How in the heck could I have forgotten that??!!

Sorry mate, you're way up there in my estimation and I'm truly sorry I inadvertently left you off the list. I'll correct that.

I'm really jazzed about everyone's other suggestions. Now I have some blogs to read though myself! and will add your suggestions to my list which I plan on indexing in the front post *and* providing to new folks when they make their introductions. (seems like a good use for it)

OK folks, updated the list. Again, it's not meant to be a list of the only good threads on dakka, just the one's that gave me a lot of inspiration, especially early on. Perhaps I'll do a list each year featuring the threads that got me most excited during the past 12 months.

A small bit of progress to report, though no pics.

So, I'm in a Badab War campaign at our FLGS. Got in late so only 3 games left. After the disaster that was my last game I decided to rethink my strategy a bit. Since I know my Adpeticon list (1000 pts) better than any other I've played since getting back into 40k a few years ago, I figured I'd just build on that rather than trying to reinvent it. Expand it a bit, fill out some of the squads, make them more resilient and pass around a bit of war gear... as well as adding a few units that will shore up some of it's weaknesses. At 1850 pts I think I have a nice list worked up that not only is a bit more balanced, but features many of the key units that I've been working on for the army (vanguard, sternguard, dreads, scouts, etc.). The last couple campaign games (including the upcoming one) are at 1750, which is enough of a difference that I have to do some shifting. Vanguard are just too expensive, but I needed something that was highly mobile, could score and complimented the "death from above" aspects of the Adepticon build.

In essence, here's what I've got:

My Adepticon army detailed here with a librarian HQ instead of the MoTF.
plus...
- three extra sternguard w/ an extra melta
- some extra wargear for the old army, power weapons for the tac sergeants, dozer blades for the razorbacks, HK missile for the Iron Clad, etc... just little stuff to make them a bit more useful
- my little 4 ML beakie dev squad (which has proven over several games to be very useful) added
- two 5-man scout squads kitted for assault, one with homing beacon
- two LS storms w/ MM (proxying my normal LS for these at the moment)
- 3-man scout bike squad w/ goodies and a homing beacon

In essence then, a couple of different fast-moving, infiltrating & scouting options that I can move around on the table before the game starts, so that when my pods come in at the beginning of my first turn I can pretty much put them where I want. Best if I go first of course, but still gives me options (like outflanking) if I go second. This doubles my scoring units too, which should help me out in objective based games. Still a million kill points so I'm still hung there, but I think if I can bring everything together at the same time, I might be able to overwhelm and cripple my opponent at key places on the board which might help the overall effort. The assault capabilities of the army are increased slightly. Still a weakness, but not a total vacuum any more.

So, because I might need to play this army quickly, much of the above changes reflect what is already done or what can be done quickly, at least to the build stage. So, the three bikes need to be built, as do the two sergeants for the scout squads. Dozer blades for the razorbacks are simple enough. I bought some nicely painted used scouts, just need to add some green to them and they'll be good to go. If nothing else, this'll be a good army to practice some of my ideas with until I can get the vanguard built.

So, last night was mainly still recovering from the weekend, however aside from making the army list, I made an index card of all the things I need to do to make the army playable and pulled out, organized and set aside all the bits for the various upgrades and additions. When I actually get all the above elements built and painted, it'll represent a major step forward in the development of my army. I'll be happy with that for sure.

Don't you already have 20 or 30 painted scouts? Were none of those assault oriented?

Have 20 sniper scouts... not a good configuration for running around in land speeders. ;-) I actually think regular bolter armed scouts would be best to cruse & fight from the speeders, but I didn't want to mess with these decently painted figures just for one battle (though I'll be honest, I think scouts rigged for assault is a poor use for them given their low WS). I have enough extra scout bits that I can build my own from scratch so it wasn't worth it to modify these.

So, you settle down with a nice cuppa, spend a while catching up on the billion pages that have appeared on Gits' blog since you last looked a few hours ago, and then he points you in the direction of a load more goodness to read Those are some very fine blogs you've pointed out, all inspiring, and I'm honoured and a bit awed that you saw fit to put my cyborks up there

I just love the sense of community spirit your post highlights, just in case some hadn't picked that up just from your blog. This cross-fertilisation and inter-breeding of inspiration is to my mind a huge part of what makes Dakka great.

And this is why I joined and started posting here The community here is so much stronger than anywhere else. It encourages folks to continue painting and posting, it encourages people to start new posts.

Heck, both me and BoA have mentioned Gits as being one of the inspirations for our own blogs!

Hey Gits, after being too busy to view this page (I had to prioritise finalising our shipping arrangements over watching 'The Beast') I'm back to being fully active.

Let's see, the Vangaurd looks ace so I have high hopes for the winged penitent Sarge I'll be patiently waiting for. In particular the wings are brilliant especially with the vivid blues on the underside and that patterning ties it all together eloquently.

And thanks for posting those links as I now have a wide variety of inspiration which will hopefully lead to a productive summer of painting.

Thanks MT (and everyone). Believe it or not, it's these same aspects that keep me coming back too. I'm not good enough to be a one man show, but I don't mind being a focus point so everyone can pitch in and make something really special. And frankly... most of the blogs that I listed earlier have vital communities of their own as well... it's just that after 160-some-odd pages... most P&M community members ended up here, at least for a time.

Keep contributing positively to other's blogs and well as your own, and you'll get mentioned plenty. Takes time is all.

Funny, that first one just came up in another thread, and Matt is making very good progress on his blog as well. Inspiring blogs don't need to be golden demon quality... just... inspiring!

It'll take a while GS, but you'll get him. I love the trades as they let me work out ideas for my own army... IF I ever get to work on my own army that is... ;-) I am trying to steadily work my way through my swaps now, so at least you'll get to see me progressing towards yours. Yeah, there's a lot of summer reading in those pages... quality stuff too! Hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

I enjoyed my end of the marine trade just as much Gits as it gave me a chance to prototype my future Tzeentchian/Dark Mechanicus Berzerkers. I built another one as a prototype model but it didn't have the same dynamic (so now I know what to go with).

Although my bro has a CSM army which I contribute two I also have one on the backburner that will hopefully use the design I trailed on the Chaos Mantid.

Tonight's installment.

Build is done on biker #3 and all GSing is done (just filling in gaps). Homing beacon is on sergeant, now it's just waiting for the grenade launcher bits to come in.
