Thank you for the get out clause! Seeing thos GS made my wallet twitch but I was able to pass. Veteran trooper "come here if you want some" and veteran trooper "if you don't need that head I will have it" made me buy it.

However, one thing I would like to point out - if, rather than the poorly conceived marketing compaign behind this, GW had been up front last month with this product and showed those sculpts and models I would have pre-ordered a month ago and happily waited 6-8 weeks to receive it. showing those sculpts and extracts of rules and a being more positive and open about this game could have given them a better indication of sales - maybe the limited run could have been bigger.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

GW seems out of touch with the rest of the planet in this matter. Just about every industry that has something to sell likes to advertise what they're selling, hyping it up with previews and whatnot. Even when things are kept a secret, it's usually for some large unveiling at a convention or whatever (E3 being a good example of that in the video game industry) and then usually that is followed by further previews.

GW seems to think the opposite of this, that hiding everything to the last possible second is a good idea. As it stands we have a new Codex out in two months and so far we have some rumours, and we've seen two models from it. Realistically we should have seen the whole range, been given a list of new Special Characters (to get us excited over them and their stories), and maybe even a battle report to give us a taste of how they work. But no, the Space Wolves are a secret - and anyone attempting to get info out and spread rumours is an evil Tournametn Gamer.

Now I just have to wait and see if there's anyway to get them back in Portugal, or if I'll have to call my contacts in the UK.

I actually wanted three boxes, one to paint, one to, erm, play with, and the other to sell at a later date. It's bound to be worth a buck if they really keep it limited like they say.

Or I could either do a Crusading army, or a Blood Angels army. Decisions...

Did I miss something or is that awesome spartan-like commander not in this set?

Dude... that mini was by far far far, my favorite one. Damn, I was really hoping to pick up on of these at some point.

Is this not in the kit? I am not finding any pics of it, but it is really hard to tell with the plastics... am I being paranoid or could that have been some sort of marketing tactic to keep the stuff mysterious for long after it's release? I fail to find a reason why that couldn't be a distinct possibility.

Hmmm... well GW has me interested in the sculpts now ... step one I suppose.

And it is the same model?

No switcharoo on this one? I am really trying to get one of those models when this hype dies down. I am quite sure if I am looking I will find the whole set for 50$ within the year.

Okay, as odd as this sounds I think that GW did a pretty good job on this one overall. The movement behind this will get GW a good chunk o' change, and they will please at least 2/3 of their buyers. The main thing this will do though is provide an after-shock market when people realize that they have a hard enough time playing WH40k often, and they would rather just get a few bucks back. So in two years you should be able to get this set, unpainted, for around 30-50$ depending on how this first sale works out.

Saying that you want it now (hype,hype,hypity-hype-hype) could have a lot more to do with wanting games of SH... NOW! I cannot imagine a game like this staying very popular in the market.

It'll probably stay about as popular as the first two Space Hulks, so we'll see the odd set going for $200-$300-ish on eBay from now until the end of time.

And yeah, all the 'group shots' show that Sergeant model. I wonder if I can cut out his fangs...

I am not sure that a 3rd edition (unless astoundingly good) will pack the same nostalgic punch that prices like 200$ would be able to maintain.

300$ is... well that is like shopping for the month .

I actually like the fangs, but I would have to see the model before I really decided. That aside the sculpt is uber-class, and I really hope it shows a new direction for the SM bling. It would be pretty laborious to clean the mouth up, stuff like that is always a massive pain... dremel and GS time !

Bling is not bad, just when you are coated in a coat of coats, and those coats have a hat and shiny shiny shoes... and a pimp cane too.

Indirect (or flame war) marketing is pretty unstable to say the least. I have already mentioned that I think that GW is testing their consumer confidence. PR in a nutshell really.

And all just in time for the AU/NZ Golden Demon comp - I think I know what I'll be painting now.

I still don't get the 'limited release' thing - rumour has it that GW really need a big cash injection before Xmas and this will certainly achieve that. But it's not impossible that these same figures (recut minus the built-in bases perhaps) will mysteriously reappear as separate 40K products six months from now - that's what happened with the previous edition's Termnators.

Hulks are generally comprised of several ships all squished together into an amorphous mass.

But even within the same ship, doors could be painted or configured differently for different section of the ship, or for different functions or access restrictions.

Compare it to the dull-as-dishwater dark beige doors from 1st Ed. This is an improvement, much like the 2nd Ed tiles/doors were an improvement as well.

Panic wrote:I'd have thought that all doors inside a hulk were the same?

Hulks are made up of many ships, so there's a pretty good reason why there would be different ones. There should be some repetition yes, but not uniform. Anyway, I think they just wanted to fill a sheet with cool new artwork.

I just want some better shots of the 'rooms', to see how many there are and how big they are.

Yeah, I'ma have to preorder this... looks amazing. I think the variation in the tiles is awesome. It definitely works when you consider how hodge podge and a mess Imperial tech is.

It is cool art-work though, card-stock or not.

I am actually surprised that they aren't sillier. There is not a single door that doesn't look cool.

Hmm... even though the variety is cool, I am still overwhelmed by all the different styles. Makes me think of the DOOR NUMBER ONE! shows... slightly cheesy... tell me what is behind the door host, or you will live to regret it .

Also I'm not seeing a bulkhead door type... they all look regular.

Why is there a Blood Angel door? And why isn't there a pheaux-Rhino door or something? That would've been nice.

And we haven't seen everything in great detail yet, so there could be some very silly details in there. But anything's an improvement over the grey greyness of 1st Ed, where the biggest detail was the odd exposed orange cable.

From where I am standing that whole sheet looks like first or second draft with little to no changes... besides corporatism maneuvering... marketing dep. ahem... wait, where did all the monkeys with funny hats go? Something is definitely awry here.

All in all I still applaud the design team behind it, and their obvious experience with dealing with the monkeys at range with sniper squadrons... and the funny hats were supposed to protect them .

Hmm... I see no Bulkheads either, or, nothing that's obviously a bulkhead. 2nd Ed Bulkheads were a different shape.

Could be on a different sheet?

This can't be serious, can it? They make at least three different purple paints.

Actually they make one purple paint (warlocke purple) and one purple wash.

This purple looks like it could be the wash, but looks more like the dicontinued purple.
The liche purple looks more blue to me.

But I guess it could be the purple foundation, so nevermind.
