There are no Final Fantasy Movies! Its all a lie! A LIE!!!!
But onto a more proper topic regarding a movie. Lets say, by His Most Holy Divine Intervention of Holiness™ they do make a movie, it Will NOT be about the heresy.
Why?
It's too Human-Centric. For a Sci Fi film to be interesting to the masses, you cant have Humans as Bad Guys, they have to be Demons or Faceless Aliens. As much as a 3-movie-each-7-hours-long-philosophical-epic-detailing-the-Flawed-Nature-of-Man-ranging-from-how-animosity-spreads-into-blind-hatred-to-those-who-were-betrayed-by-those-they-trusted-and-how-even-those-perceived-as-Divine-and-Flawless-can-be-Morally-Blind would be awesome, it just wouldnt happen.
And of course if it did happen I would make HappyJuice in my pants lol.
I just hope they remember to make the Emperor Turkish looking and not some faced American

That's interesting, are you saying that just so it's different, or is there some canonical reference?
He was born in the Region that Was Turkey in about 80000BC. This Canon (Old Canon but still Canon) See Here
One account of the Emperor's origin goes so far as to say that he had mortal brothers and sisters and details the time and location of his birthplace - eighty thousand years before the forty-first millenium, in the region of Terra then known as Central Anatolia

40K would much better lend itself to an animated series in the DOW intro style on HBO etc...there is far too much fluff (most of it conflicting at that) to ever be put into a movie in a satisfying way. The problem is if you lose a little you lose a lot IMHO.

How far did Damnatus actually get? I thought they got to rendering a couple of Rhinos and then got hit with the C & D order before any actual rendered 'filming' occurred.

It's from the Realm of Chaos books. I've heard the story about the mass suicide of psychers resulting in the birth of the emporer, but the figure of 80,000 years ago I don't like. Seems like what I've read recently pointed it more twoards years 3K-4K. I think everything works better if you keep 40K in the future beyond real historical scrutiny.

Actually, I'm not sure which idea I would like more, a series of movies done as well as LotR, or a TV series of the production value as BSG on a network like HBO where it can be violent.
Hhhmmm. I'm always deeply suspicious of talk of a 40K movie. I honestly think it would end up like the D&D or Mutant Chronicle films.
Most successful war movies usually have a strong philosophical and sometimes Anti War message which is at odds with 40Ks background. Even if told from the guardsman point of view I imagine most 40k fans would started spitting teeth if the characters started questioning the morality of constantly waging war and the evil regime for which they fight. Conversely the average move goes will spit teeth if they don't!
A film which basically says 'War is Ace' before showing 2 hours of cheap visual thrills will have little to offer the average movie goer. Just as the black library books which may well be fun for the 40k enthusiast will be seen as little more than childish war porn by anyone else.

Yeah, I agree, the more I think about this idea the more I'm inclined to think a 40K movie will never work(at least not a good one). War is illogical and destructive. It works for a game specifically because the gamers need a reason to fight and continue to fight. It is a persisitant gaming enviroment. A wide spread movie (e.g. one that must appeal to the masses) would have to have this anti-war sentiment at the very least, being viewed from the eyes of the common Imperial man or woman paying the price of that constant warfare. An HBO show may be able to better interpret these ideas (the 40K constant war ones, that is) and find it's niche' audience away from meddlesome Hollywood producers that have ruined so many artistic interpretations before. Just my thoughts on it.
The way i see it, in order for any sort of move to be good, it will have to be the following:
A Series, not a Movie:
there is just far, far too much stuff to fit into a single movie.
Animated, not Live Action:
As sad as I am that it will never be Traditionally Animated, I would prefer CGI to live action any day. Live Action is too expensive and limiting.
A movie about the Heresy Would be Fail:
Why? because "For a Sci Fi film to be interesting to the masses, you cant have Humans as Bad Guys, they have to be Demons or Faceless Aliens. As much as a 3-movie-each-7-hours-long-philosophical-epic-detailing-the-Flawed-Nature-of-Man-ranging-from-how-animosity-spreads-into-blind-hatred-to-those-who-were-betrayed-by-those-they-trusted-and-how-even-those-perceived-as-Divine-and-Flawless-can-be-Morally-Blind would be awesome, it just wouldn't happen."

From an IG perspective it could work.
At it's core IG fight because if they don't mankind will be wiped out. The fight is coming whether they want it or not. The xenos destroy or enslave, the mutant destroys, etc. etc. So they fight to survive. Why? So more will be born to continue the fight and so on and so forth endlessly. It's circular but what must be.
Intro into IG fighting traitor guard leaving the audience to decide which of the two is 'good'. Then drop in SM and Chaos to ramp it up visually and to show the extremes of both viewpoints. Maybe even partway through toss in a third faction. Now it's a three way standoff. No good guys per se (dark and morally ambigous w/ no real heroes- Hollywood loves that crap) just survivors.
