Plaguebearers still have a 5++ for better or for worse to annoy the dread as it helps them stick around in terms of KP.
No doubt it sucks for the plague bearers, but the daemo player should have something in the list to deal with it, or not deepstrike so close to the defiler to being with.

My 7 Cents.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

They have smoke launchers.
Blow that, fleet, charge.

So they will get cover at least once when they don't shoot....which is sometimes a questionable choice... at least you do get that choice.

The Plaguebearers will get their Iv5+, but Fearless will double the number of failed wounds. The Defiler won't run them down, but it will wear them down pretty fast at no risk to itself. Obliterators, on the other hand, will be in danger from them, and much more so from Daemons like Bloodletters.

Anything that's as power weapon-y as many of the daemon lists out there will put the hurt on MEQs and Termis without much effort (the main effort being "Please let my stuff come in" and "Please don't let all of it get shot to hell"). Interesting point, against Daemons the defiler is probably the better choice regardless.

I use a 2 vindi/defilers and 1 unit of 3 oblitz combo. I used to run more oblits, but since they're quite easy to kill with high strenght low ap weaponry I found it to be a bit of a point sink.
They got pretty much blasted whenever they got fielded (people get how dangerous they are after just a single game and learn to kill em fast in the second) and when Deepstrinking with flamers...well, i can do that just as effective with termicide squads for a lot less pts.

Except the oblits still let you be flexible in a tourney environment where you can't change your list, you can come in with a choice of weapons to open up on the opponent.

With termicide, you pay less for less flexibility. Don't get me wrong, the termicide unit will do it's job, but when fitting for one job, it doesn't do another when the opportunity to maximize whatever combi weapon they choose when the opponent has a list that favors more infantry or more tanks.

So oblits get instant killed, it's easier for them to get a cover save than the Pred chassis.
In addition the pred has big side armor and that back armor. Defilers are really big, and when you shoot, most likely won't get cover saves outside of smoke launchers.

Now, I think the blend of the 3 hvys (defiler, vindi, oblits) is pretty good, covering a variety of targets/ranges.

I personally like symmetry, so I would go for 2 of the same and the odd one out.

I used to run 2 vindi's, but for some reason people tend to think the defiler is a much greater threat then a lone vindi, all AT is usually directed at the defiler and the oblitz, letting the vindi sneak into position to put a st 10 ap 1 pieplate on your most expensive unit.

I am personally more scared of defilers as I find exorcists are brutally effective vs obliterators. Similarly, for some reason, I find that they tend to bounce off defilers either due to my inability to hit, or my inability to roll 4+. Also, melta weapons are not terribly exciting when you have a defiler walking 6", fleeting 6" then charging 6" into you all before you get to shoot.

This is not to say that obliterators are bad per se, but they are pretty inferior vs Sisters of Battle.
