Space Marines because I was on a budget from college, liked the miniatures/background and found them a pretty forgiving for a new player.

I started Orks because I'd played them before, in 2nd ed. and liked what had been done to them in the latest codex, and also AoBR helped make my mind up.

I choose Space Wolves because to me they where a mix between WHFB and 40k. As the old codex says they are a 40k army with a Fantasy feel. Plus what's not to lvoe about futuristic space vikings with lycanthrope tendancies

I'm now trying to figure out how I would decide which is my 'main' army, but I can only conclude so far that I have two.

Ask not an eldar for directions for they will give you three, all which are to the nearest book reading club.

I chose to play Imperial Guard for 40k because of the Humans Vs big scary things from outa space. Plus the models look pretty ace and the armies are massive!

I chose high elves for fantasy as they were very different to paint compaired to my imperial guard and i just love the models.

Blood Angels.

I started 40k before the newest version of it came out, and the new edition was released as I began painting my first BA.

I love the aesthetics, the color scheme, the background, the playing style, etc.

I picked my DG because it was cheap and I like the idea of it (the Obliterators are the hosts of the Obliterator virus, reclaimed from fallen Terminators; the PMs are corrupted servants of the Obliterator host, the Space Marines who faced and fell to the virus; the DPs are the corrupted humans who are the guardians of the Obliterator host *they're based off Ogre Bulls*) and because I could make a complex fluff story off of an army of PM's, DP's and Oblits.

I picked up the battle box for the imperial guard when they were first redesigned. Truth be told I started with them because I LOVED the tanks. I couldn't wait to paint them and have my our mechanized IG army. So I guess it was background that drove me to play my army.

QFT!

Started with Dark Angels because I liked the color scheme, the robes, and their fluff...I had always eyed Orks and since I switched I've enjoyed 40K much more. Awesome to paint, awesome to convert, and just a fun army to play, fits my style much more.

In the Webway.

I chose eldar after getting into the 40K game (through Battle for Maccarage) and when i looked through the model range book thingy the colourfullness and variety of the eldar really appealed to me.

Yay eldar!

For Warhammer Fantasy I went with Dark Elves as my main army for one reason and one reason only: Gobs of half-naked chicks. So I guess that's "aesthetics."

For W40K I went with IG originally because they're such underdogs in the fluff, but these days I mostly play CSM because they have MOAR SKULLS. Also I like growling "Blood for the blood god!" at my opponent as I kill his models.

I first got into Dark Angels because I dug the Azreal mini with the little watcher in the dark guy with the giant helmet following him around. But then my homie got a hold of some Eldar which included a painted Avatar. Once I saw that I traded my DA for all his Eldar stuff and never looked back

Maddening Mutant Boss of Chaos

Montreal, Quebec

I got Maccrage first off, I liked the game so I decided I'd get an army.
I was told of the general fluff of every army and decided to go with chaos, so I got the Chaos Codex and started reading. I came back to the store knowing the truth about the Corpse God and was set not to follow him. But I didn't really like the feel of super strong power armoured folks and rather liked the feel of an IG army.

Back then LatD were legal to play and the Redshirt I talked with handed me the stores' copy of Codex: Eye of Terror I started reading and BAM that was dead on what I was looking for in my army. I headed home and started reading about conversions and fluff of chaos scum (You know when GW had a site that was more than a shop). I was set, I downloaded the LatD army list (and every single army list for free download!) and designed a 500 point force.

I liked the idea of having to modify every single model to be more chaos enligned that's what really hooked me up with Warhammer 40k, conversions.

Love the fluff, love the models, love the ability to do conversions and get away with the wildest, most outlandish models possible. Anything goes pretty much.

Most of all, I chose da Orks 'cause dey are da Greenest and da Bestest.

Started with Tomb Kings and Necrons. I still love both but yearn for new codexes. Bunch of guys at the game store said I should do Imperial Fists. They were right, I have 8K easy. My heart is in Bretonnia, but they too need a need a new codex. Love 8th and hope the Brets can make a come back. Tau rocks, but 5th hurt them too much to play them until, that's right, new codex needed. I miss the power of the Fish of Fury. Orcs and Goblins rock, don't care they are not in the big league, just love the minis and the rules rock! Finally, Grey Knights, with the new codex on the rumor horizon, wow I can't wait to build on my little 3K army.

Got a mate who had ork and chaos armies. He offered them to me, but I turned him down.
Then my son wanted me to go halves on a black reach box, well he got his way.
and guess which army I got, yup orks.
So back to my mate for extra troops, 1850 and growing

And yes chaos is growing also.

Its hard to be awesome, when your playing with little plastic men.
Welcome to Fantasy 40k

If you think your important, in the great scheme of things. Do the water test.

Put your hands in a bucket of warm water,
then pull them out fast. The size of the hole shows how important you are.
I think we should roll some dice, to see if we should roll some dice, To decide if all this dice rolling is good for the game.

Eldar, fell in love with the minis rogue trader days and they're still the models I like most.
Every other army I've chosen to play a big decision has come from the models I'd use in it too, personaly I dislike the tau models so probably wont be using an army of them, even to my lists I generaly try to make sure the models I like best are in the army, even vypers every so often

I went with Ogres because I love the minis and the fluff is good (if a bit bland).

It helps immensely that they are one of the cheaper armies to collect and are mostly plastic with no decades old subpar models still mixed in the range.

I'm a Thousand Sons Player, I've always liked the sorcerers. A whole legion of em was too cool to pass up. Their story is awesome too. The sw are manipulated into attacking a loyal, brother legion and the only choice left to the Sons is death or chaos. I'd pick chaos over the alternative.
