Night Lords or Sons of Malice because they are cannibals, criminals, rapists and murderers whom were given a suit of power armour and were made stronger to become the protectors of the Imperium. *snicker*

Well I still haven't decided really, but I think it'll be the Night Lords as I love their fluff, and that they used to have more fast attack and infiltrators, and that they have those large bat wings with skulls all over the place.

We have come for you!

you forgot the most important choice: you consider it to be a fun army!

It just has that one set up or special character that you use. It may not be a tourney winner, but it is fun!

The fluff is what drew me in, being themed on the Reformation era as one of my favorite areas of study helped. That and I love the angelic theme and the monk robes.

When I first decided I was going to play 40k, I initially told myself I wasn't going to play Space Marines or anything other army that was too popular. I didn't like the idea of showing up with the same army as everyone else.

I was originally going to play Nids, but as I browsed through the codexes I got drawn into IG. I spent probably two weeks tweaking a list to start going shopping, and it was going to be like 500-600 dollars for a 2000 point list, and I didn't even know if I was going to enjoy the game!

I went into the local game shop during their 40k and learned two things. One, IG was what about half of the players were using! Secondly, they were going to start a 750 escalation league in a couple of weeks. I was also told Space Marines were the best way to go, and I could always switch armies later.

I dwelled on it and told myself I needed to make sure I was going to like any of the armies. Got my hands on the Blood Angels Codex, and liked what I saw. I still am nothing but very new at the game, but I figured I knew enough and got a 750 point army for about 150 dollars through the Battleforce, an HQ, and a Baal Predator... and I've been adding on from there.

I have went back to the IG book and a couple of others since then, but I think I am going to stay with the BAs.

Besides, with Space Marines I can always paint them a different color if they don't work out!

I started with the Dark Angels when I played Epic. I had green minis, and figured I wouldn't have a hard time painting them... lol... Plus the cover of the old box had DA all over it!

After actually finding the codexes and reading the back story, I thought they were pretty cool and kept with them when I moved into 40k

Hi

For WFB - the look and feel of Undead drew me in. I now sit at 6K of Vampires and 5K of Tomb Kings, without sharing any skeletons.

For 40K - the look of Orks drew me in, although Tyranids were a close second. At the time, bugs did not have a 3rd ed codex, so the orks won the day.

For War Machine and Hordes - the look of Skorne won the day. The fluff has kept me interested, despite almost no play at my FLGS.

For every specialist game and other range/game I have tried - the look of the army is #1.

Cheers,
Carlos the Craven

I chose Aesthetic's, being a fan of chunky armour and robots the Marines appealed greatly as this was before Tau's time. But at the time, Marines fitted the bill of what I liked much more than any other army and was a great starter army before I moved onto Tau and then Orks

I started Tyranids mostly because of the aesthetics and partially because of the awesome new codex. Also it doesn't run any tanks and I don't really like fielding tanks for some reason.

I choose 'Nids most for the awesomeness of the Trygon/Mawloc kit, but also for the background and feel as well as the looks of the minis.

Orks, because back in 2nd my Space Marines got their asses handed to them most of the time by orks.

And they're really fun to paint and play.

I originally wanted to play Dark Elves before the new book because I thought nobody played them. Then the new book came out, and I felt like I jumped on the bandwagon.

As for Eldar? My friend sold me his Battalion for $10, and I picked up a Farseer and Falcon for $25, so convenience is my excuse.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

I have 3 armies, Chaos (ugly stuff, due to the former owners bad painting skills) Necrons (which, along with Chaos I bought 1500- 2000 points second hand, so the army doesn't feel very personal) The army I own as my primary army is my Guard. I built it up from Yarrick and 2 squads for guardsmen, after selling my former guard (including my first painted models) to buy the 'crons. Luckly, my friend was more than happy to swap the guardsman back, and since then, my army has only grown.

It now has russes, Manticore, commissars, and a Baneblade. It really is an army i'm proud of, and I (in a way) love it, because it was my first army. I started it again, for those that are interested, because 'crons were boring, died without 'litthy and Guard are far more fun toplay and model. All the men that I painted are individuals, rather than just mass meat. Sadly, most were painted for a 40k presentation (live battle to miss lessons) we had to make to new kids, and have lost thier identity. I'm gonna need a lot of paint in the summer...

My current main army is ig, but thats because i had a spare cpl of days n 50 odd quid, went shop an saw a leman russ, what an awesome tank! well you cant have a tank without some troops to back it up, and of course you need some paints! Well youve got that lot you need the codex to sort it out....so 100 odd quid later i had the start of a viable army and kept it up from there. Plus i was tired of painting Spez Marens.

Of all the races of the universe the Squats have the longest memories and the shortest tempers. They are uncouth, unpredictably violent, and frequently drunk. Overall, I'm glad they're on our side!

You people do well at war because you treat it as a religion. We do well because we treat it as a business. It is just a matter of outlook.

On one side of me stand my Homeworld, Stronghold and Brotherhood; On the other, my ancestors. I cannot behave otherwise than honourably.

How Jervis can say they (GW) did this race a disservice is beyond me. (to me) The above is plenty to inspire a theme for the force.

I chose Dark Angels because I like their fluff. At the time, I liked their 3rd Codex because it set them apart a little bit from the vanilla marines. They were plasma centric then and had more access to it than the others. Plus thier models are sweet.

I chose High Elves because I played Dark Elves back in 5th edition and I wanted to see the other side. Plus I thought that ASF army wide was cool. I also like a lot of their model range. I've also always been a fan of Elves in the fantasy setting in general.

I was drawn to Night Lords because of their background. I always liked the idea of them cutting off a planet and then destroying its population and cities as they pleased. Also the idea of them having no loyalty to any other armies or gods still appeals to me.

I didn't know jack about codices or the 40k universe when I got (back) into the hobby. Started an ork army 'cause I had some Gorkamorka -era orks locked away in a closet at my mum's, thought I could make use of em. Turned out the wartrakk was the only useful mini in there, but what the hey, after 2 years of intense hobbying I'm really fond of my current army and happy that I picked up orks
