Great looking bases did you buy them or make them yourself ????

Purchased the bases from dragonforge, but painted them myself.

Thanks for the interest! Stay tuned, as you will see a LOT more activity when I get my order of GK's in.

Just an update for those who believe me to be dead. I am not, fortunately, however I sometimes wish I was.

Weeks leading up to finals are No Bueno.

Anywho, just a count update, still no camera...

4 x psycannon troops assembled
3 x justicars assembled
8 x standard gk's assembled

Next on the list is to finish another box of standard gk's, followed by the two boxes of Termies I have. From there, Probably my other Stormraven, then the FW dread, then the last Land Raider.

Also, I must bid farewell to my Space Wolves. They served me well, but I wish to start anew with them. Sold them to a buddy that's super interested in playing, so there's that. Going to put what cash i got from the sale towards a case for my GK's (battlefoam most likely), a special set of die, and prolly 4 razorbacks so I have transport options for smaller scale battles. And what's left will be put aside until I am ready to start work on my SW's again. They shall be glorious! Just not GK glory.... =P

Again, SO sorry for the lack of updates, but just too damn busy. Also, please feel free, give me feedback on what you'd like to see, what you think of what's there now, and what you think I should add.

Really want the community to hit me up with ideas. Thanks!

Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Have had a lot of work between finals, new job, and moving into my summer residence from the dorms.

I've got all my GK's built, just adding the final detail pieces to the last 6 guys.

You'll notice no heads attached, and that's what the last contraption pictured is for. Going to pin the heads to the wire shoved in the foam so that I can prime the appropriate ones white for the purifiers.

On a side note, been looking into getting an Airbrush in the coming weeks once I get my paycheck. Figure it would be a good investment to get now since I have plenty of time outside of work to practice. Hope to have updates coming in a more consistent fashion soon.

Quick update. Here's the basecoat for my GK scheme.

Based in Boltgun Metal, then applied a very watered down coat of mythril silver all over. I like how it makes the armor look a little more multidimensional, or deep.

Feel free to comment!

Very true. Haven't gotten that far as the blades will be one of the last parts i paint. Can't decide if I want to do the lightning for the power swords or if I want to do the fancy gradients which i see now a days.

HUZZAH! Proud to announce I'm keeping up with the updates.

Here's what's been done so far on the Purifier.

Baddab Black/ Distilled Water (1/3) - used on folds in armor on knees/hips and in the lines on armor
Wash of Asurmen Blue/ Distilled Water (1/4) - all over
Wash of Baddab Black/ Distilled Water (1/3) - All Over

Then the gold was done like this

Beastial Brown/shining gold (1/1 w/ equal parts distilled water)
shining gold / burnished gold - (1/1 w/ equal parts distilled water)
Burnished gold - equal parts distilled water
wash of gryphon sepia

Moving on to the seals. Trying to get it done before 9:00pm. Wish me luck!

And, again, PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK!!! THIS ARMY IS MY BABY AND I WANT IT TO BE AS AMAZING AS POSSIBLE. IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS WELCOME TOO!!!

Looks pretty good, It looks like you're going for a darker silver than the normal one, are you just going to Boltgun metal with them? if you want to go darker use Badab Black wash and leave it like that you can get it looking pretty grim dark that way

I do like the idea of different purity seals heads it adds more colour to the model with out detracting from the over all scheme. Is it just me or have you weathered the tabbard? looks promising!

With the inclusion of your photos being able to zoom as far in as I can, the highlighting on the Storm bolter looks like the paint may have not been thinned with water before being applied?

What are you using for the writing on the should pad? looks quite good and I'll be using the idea of having the inquisitor I as a page on the books as I struggle to come up with ideas to fill in the pages.

The lining on the bolter was my first attempt at highlighting, and yes, it was NOT thinned. point taken.

And to do the scroll work and stuff like that, i just used a small tip brush and hand scribbled it. The name on the shoulder was done with a micro fine point sharpie. I always use it for letters, as i like them to be blocky and readable. just use the edge of it and you'll be fine.
Also, just cause I'm anal about symmetry, i suggest counting letters and using the middle one or middle two as a start point and work outwards from there. It's never led me wrong.

Oh, and the tabbard was done in white and then i washed with the magic of devlan mud (thinned of course) to take the color down, and then i just did a bit of dry-brushing the bottom edge with graveyard earth and baddab black - then a focused wash of devlan again.

Great to see the head on it!

Great work on the eyes! I wish mine came out like that. Can I ask how are you doing the white? from the pic's it looks quite streaky and a bit see through or it might be a bit dirty? was that the effect you were going for? were you also going to go back and redo the black storm bolter highlighting? I use shadow grey and cover it with a wash of Badab black to hopefully dull it even further.

@Knightly - I primed the head with games workshop white primer - then coat with a thinned layer skull white.

Wasn't originally going for dirty, but i like how it looks with the rest of the armor.

Truth be told, I'm a bit dissapointed with the final result - i failed my own rules and rushed a bit with it. Still like it and I probably won't change it, but it's definately something I'll improve on.

Oh, and to get the eyes i just painted the sockets black first then ice blue.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
UPDATE - Did a little more wash tinkering with Janua before bed, and I like the end result. Looks a little dirtier, but it blends well with the rest of the paint scheme. Also helps make his eyes pop.

Don't expect to see pictures this weekend, as I'm heading back to college to game it up with my friends, but I will try to get a lot accomplished and update you Monday. Have a good one!

UPDATE:

Well, got some more guys painting underway (should have them done soon!!!)

Sat back with my 40k mentor and had a lengthy discussion about how I make lists. After a good two to three hours of discussion, I felt better prepared to make an effective list that is not just the standard spam of lameness but could still be effective. This is the result:

10 x SS - 2 x PC/8 x FH, psybolt - Rhino w/ HKM = 325
10 x SS - 2 x PC/8 x FH, psybolt - Rhino w/ HKM = 325
10 x Termies - 2 x Daemonhammers, psybolt = 420
Dread - TL LC/ML = 150
Dread - TL LC/ML = 150
Warband: 2 x servitors w/ multimelta, 1 x servitor w/ plasma cannon
Razorback w/ psybolt = 90
Inquisitor- Power Armor, 2 x servo-skulls, bolt pistol & chainsword = 39

Grand total of 1499pts

Idea is that dreads sit back and lay siege to tanks first, then hit squads with missiles, as Rhino's barrel GK's into that 24'' range for the Storm bolters. Termies will combat squad and deepstrike in early to keep opponents busy until SS arrive. Inquisitor and Warband ride in razorback, razorback primarily just adding more fire into the mix and helping bridge the 24''+ gap with TL HB and psybolt ammo. The servitors and inquisitor can be dropped on an objective or pop out to defend razorback/shoot at a pesky squad or tank.

This is very slimmed down list for me, as I tried to limit my upgrades and get as many units on the field as possible, also trying to give everyone a role to play.

Let me know what you think!

Is it Monday there yet

Having not really looked into army lists, I can't really comment on the list you've got there. I have heard that twin linked auto cannons with Psybolt ammo are quite tasty indeed.

Alright, so here's what has happened since Friday:

1) 4 GK's based, washed, gold painted - ready for detail work
2) New List created (as was previously posted, but it was a HUGE accomplishment for me so I'll mention it again haha)
3) 2nd Dreadnought created (pics below, check out the custom, kit-bashed multimelta)
4) Decided to re-purpose my SW rhino's into GK Rhino's - so 4 rhino's = SWEET
5) 2 Rhino's soaking in simple green - should be stripped by tuesday/wednesday
6) Traded friend a rhino and some bits for a razorback = Total vehicles of 2 x LR CR/R, 2 x SR, 5 x Rhino's/Razorbacks
7) Bought new bit's storage shelf - should help with organization, which i'm struggling with
8) Trying to sell/ Trade my SW army, so let me know if you're needing anything haha
9) Re-organized my work space - workflow much improved
10) Purchased 8 sets of arms, 6 halberds for GK's, 50'' ethernet cable for the good ol xbox (need to play some Black Ops zombies to relax)
11) SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THIS ONE - IRON MONGERS ARE OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY!!! Purchased 10 x MK III Crusade armor via ebay, only thing they lack are the weapons, which is fine by me.

So yeah, that's what's happened this weekend so far. Plan for tomorrow is....... undecided haha. I'm thinking some priming sounds good, but so does hitting the pool for a lil R&R.

PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK ON THE DREAD AND THE MULTIMELTA!!! PLEASE!!!!

@ Knightly - The leg will be as is. Trying to give it a more dynamic look than the first dread. But, if I can find a way to cut the toes off and reposition them effectively, I may to that. But for right now, as is.

So, can I ask what you thought of the custom multimelta?

Ah yep, cutting and re-positioning toes, sounds like fun....

I like the multimelta, I had concerns the end part was a bit long for the length of the pipes that support it (shaving off 2mm of the total length of the end part might bring a different proportion) have you thought about adding piping onto the canisters to the rear of the back housing?

@ Knightley - I hadn't thought about it till now, but it's not a bad idea. I'll look into what kinds of options I have.

Thing with this dread was that I wanted a unit in the army just plastered with seals. But I don't want it to look gaudy. I fee like I need to add more to it, but that balancing act between cool and ridiculous is tough when you only have so many bits and very limited greenstuff skill...

I think you have some room to plaster some more seals across the dreadnought's legs without being over the top. A Venerable Dreadnought will accumulate plenty, I think. I really like your work so far, I'm going to steal ideas for my own Brotherhood of Grey Knights.

What is that terminator-armoured model in your post with all the boxed set pictures in it? The one in the second last picture, I don't recognize it.

@ GreyHamster - That is a forge world model, Inquisitor Lord Hector Rex. He's missing a few parts, as I got him in a trade and didn't realize he was missing them haha. No biggie though, cause I'm going to mod him out to be a standard Inquisitor in Termi Armor.

And PLEASE, feel free to take my ideas. imitation is the highest form of flattery, and if I can have any ideas that help other's in their quest for 40k brilliance than I am happy to oblige.

UPDATE - got other dreads arms magnetized, and both dreads are pinned to bases now. Haven't gotten to the rhino's yet, probably willl here in a bit.

Currently working on ideas for a Power Armored Inquisitor. Should have pics up later today. Kinda lazier today than I had originally intended haha.

ooh, a PA-Inq sound's promising! have you based it off of any previous ideas or just went with the flow?

Bugger... even when sitting here typing my mind is racing on ideas for a inquisitor in PA which means I could very well end up doing something similar to you, heaven knows I have the spare bits...

@ Knightley - I'm using a robed lets bit from Ravenwing, a GK chest that has the I on it, and a standard back. Debating on not putting on a backpack, as I'm sure an inquisitor wouldn't need one.

And also deciding which head to use, a robed one or a half-borg one..... decisions. What do you think so far? Which head do you prefer?

Adjusting the knights right now, as I now have 8 that have to be re-equipped with Halberds... yeah for changing lists! But at least I'm keeping up with the progress.

OH, got more seals on the dread, and got the rhino's out of the green bath and they're almost dry! Plan on priming them sometime this weekend.
