Badger Patriot 105 gravity feed w/ and Iwata Smart Jet single piston compressor. Quite as hell, and should work great in my dorm!!!

Standard Robed marine head from Dark Angels upgrade sprue...? Got it in a random bits box and from friends, so not too sure exact way to pick it up.

Well, base coated atleast haha. YES, I mislead you with the title, but got you to look didn't it?

ANYWHO, what was supposed to be a night of trial and error with my nice new airbrush turned into a crazy massive painting session, during which basecoated EVERYTHING in the army that's been assembled thus far (minus the little odds and ends).

The entire process took about 5 hours (5 hours of screwing around, talking with my fellow battle brothers, and just having an all around easy go of it), but had I been focused and dedicated, would have taken maybe 2.

What was painted:

10 x GK
10 x GK Teminators
4 x Rhinos (1 w/ razorback setup)
2 x Dreadnoughts w/ 2xTLAC

This would have taken a HUGE amount of my time in any other situation, but damn if I'm not sold on the airbrush now!!!

Nothing left to do now but the detail work and more assembly of units. Dreadknight anyone?


On to a serious note though, the airbrush was a LOT less complicated than I made it at first. These are the tidbits I'd pass on to anyone who's considering getting one.

1) DO IT!!! WELL WORTH IT. Makes the entire process of painting an army so much easier. Gives a good, clean, even coat after a little bit of practice.
2) Thinning paints is easy (I used GW so please understand by easy I mean EASY by comparison to what I thought would be required), just make sure to take your time with it and test each batch before you put it on a model. Make sure it flows unobscured from the tip.
3) Use good paint. I started testing on my friends orks with an unused snot green pot, but it was old and ended up carrying with the paint some dried fleck which ended up clogging the airbrush. Not fun to clean. Not difficult, but definitively an inconvenience.
4) Don't be afraid if you mess something up. One of my rhino's dried with a weird blotchy side on it, like the paint had pooled and dried unevenly. After it dried, I hit it with another even coat and it eliminated the problem. Looks good as the rest now!!
5) Just have fun. It was a BLAST airbrushing my units. Don't know what I did without one, and hope to never find out again haha. Don't try to go too fast, just take it slow. Also, I like being close, so I opened up the bleed valve to lower the constant pressure when the airbrush was running to about 17 psi. Worked GREAT for the consistency that I got.

PS: The pics and painting were done in a basement, in the corner of the room with almost no light, but was most out of the way. So please forgive the ton of pics of the same stuff. Just trying to get a good set to give an idea of what they look like. Really got that 'brushed' metal look. **more like AIRbrushed metal**

Those bases are EPIC! I'd love to make some like them The only real fault I can say is to clean up the white a bit on your Inquisitor.

Yeah, the inquisitor does need some more lovin. But since he was the first model painted JUST for the GK army, probably not going to change him up. At least not until the rest of the Army is finished haha.

But things are looking up, so who knows! could happen sooner than you'd think.

Colour me most impressed! I'm useless at getting out my airbush, even though it would save me time, money...

Lol I wouldn't say MONEY. It used up a good pot and a half of boltgun to get them all sprayed up pretty. Just sayin.

Well, after some further evaluation, I have found a couple models that need to be hit a little more with the airbrush. Nothing big, but still needs to be done.

Beyond that.... this week I have almost finished clipping out my PA GK's, and also fully clipped out my last rhino and Storm Raven.

Plan for the rest of the week is as follows...

1) Finish cleaning and assembly of last rhino.
2) Clean and start assembly of the Storm Raven
3) Get some patterns cut out of tape and get them painted onto the rhinos

Quick update - Rhino/Razorback is ready for priming/airbrushing. Storm Raven is 80% assembled, and just waiting the magnetization of doors and weapon systems.

Plan at this point:

Running low on magnets, so ordering more in order to finish up Storm Raven the successively the Dreadknight.

This Friday I'll probably stray away from work on the Rhino's as originally planned, and instead work towards getting the PA GK's in better shape.

So.... another small update. Been distracted with Dead Island, Deus EX, and Space Marine.... oh, and classes too. haha.

But I digress, this is what's new on the 40k block:

Got 2 more Dreadknights, bringing the total for the army to 3.
Also picked up 5 more termies.

Plan tonight is to play a game with my friends, cause the battle bug is making me crazy haha.

While this is going on I'm going to keep cleaning and magnetizing DreadKnight 1. Hopefully gonna have that one done pretty soon.

Will try to throw up a GENUINE Battle Report tonight haha.

So, last night was much more productive than originally planned.

Was able to accomplish:

2 x Razorback Turrets - assembled & primed
1 x Techmarine - assembled & primed
1 x Vindicare - assembled & primed


NOW, here is the battle report.

GK's vs Scars - 750 pts.

Scar's List:

3 x speeders (1 held in reserve)
2 x Bike squads (combat squaded into 3 total squads)
1 x Biker Captain

don't remember what they were spec'd with


GK List:

HQ: Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor - PA, Hellrifle, Power Fist
HQ: Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor - PA, Hellrifle, Power Fist

Troop: 5 x GK SS - 1 x Halberd, 1 x Psycannon - Razorback 1 w/ psybolt
Troop: 5 x GK SS - 1 x Psycannon - Razorback 2 w/ psybolt

Heavy: 5 x Purgation - 4 x Incinerator - Razorback 3 w/ psybolt
Heavy: 5 x Purgation - 4 x Incinerator - Razorback 4 w/ psybolt


Game type was annihilation, deployment in quarters, and I won the roll off. I opted to deploy first, both of us put everything on the field.

This was when the game got lame.

Turn 1: Razorbacks 1 & 3 KO'd Landspeeder squadron (2 landspeeders). Razorbacks 2 & 4 KO'd Bike squadron (2 x Bikers, 1 x Attack bike)

He wasn't able to do anything but speed towards me to get his 3+ cover save on his bikes. His captain went to flank

Turn 2: Razorbacks KO'd both his bike squads - deployed 1 Purgation squad, landed 8 incinerator hits.

His Captain was only thing left on field.

Between Turn's 3 & 5, his captain only lost 2 wounds.

From here on out, the game was lame. On turn 4 he landed his speeder from reserve, but I blew it up with a Razorback before he could use it. His captain got into assault with my purgation squad in bottom of turn 4.

Turn 5: Moved razorbacks into position to kill. Essentially had him surrounded. Purgation squad exchanged blows on mine and his turn, but did nothing. On his turn, he KO'd one knight. Opted to fall back towards table edge (was approx 8 inches away). Got out of melee, then auto regrouped next turn.

Turn 6: Moved Razorbacks into attack position. Unloaded 1 razorback, and the Purgation squad - purgation squad got the kill.


The purpose of this game was for both of us to try to run a different kind of army list than we had run before.
However, the results of turn 1 and 2 made the game very boring. What I learned from this game...

1) Bikes are not that tough if you have S6 weapons.
2) Razorbacks w/ psybolt are boring and ridiculously good. I don't EVER want to run a razorspam agian.
3) Purgation squads.... still don't know how good they are. Never really got to use how I originally intended.
4) My Inquisitors did manage to take out a couple models, even deal one of those wounds to the captain I think.... so yeah, Hellrifle was not too shabby. They were set from the start on the 2nd floor of a building in the middle of my deployment zone, so they had range on everything from turn 2 on.


I don't personally count this game as a win. It was not fun to me, it was just lame. My friend was a good sport, but he was highly disappointed with how the game came out.

So yeah, I don't know what to say other than it was the perfect example of how the game changes with the luck of the roll. Lost 4 squads in 2 turns, but had his captain survive 4 turns by his lonesome.


I swear to never take more than 2 razorbacks from now on. Cause that $#!+ is lame as hell.

@ Graven - Thanks bud. Not really sure what all is necessary in a good batrep, and I didn't want to be too specific or too general. Did take some video, but the camera dies round turn 4 or 5.

As player decimated by the Razorspam, I will admit it is extremely effective. The problem I have with it is that it is just no fun personally. Sure winning is fun but theres little risk. who wants to sit in vehicles day especially with those fun CC rules knights have.

I must say our 3 team battle later that night was much more fun over all

@ dmthomas7 - Yeah, I want to try to get in on one of those, but I can't make it this weekend.

I don't know though, I'm positive that it would be possible to run some form of spam in higher point battles, because it would give the opponent more points to prep for it.

Lol, and THAT was the big thing, we were both prepping to fight each other with something new, but were not prepared for what we faced haha.

@ djdutton - not sure where i got it from haha. Bitz boxes and random bitz grab bags are amazing for reasons like that.

I will say it looked like it was supposed to lay flat, and it also had what i thought was either the dark angels logo on its covers, or the aquilla.

I can agree with you on the running completely new stuff. Myself never running an entire mounted army made things interesting. Definitely need to work on running my bikes in a new way. though realizing that dangerous terrain isn't the huge threat that I thought it was would have changed the outcome at the least some. Regardless though, those S7 psy-cannons are just vicious even with the 3+ cover from turbo boosting. new thought though I could run all troops as bikes and then use my heavy weapons from my tac squads to field devastators in either a drop pod or a rhino to possibly help popping open the rhazors to get at the fleshy bits inside
