Rational people can change their opinions based on new information. Deal with it.

lmao, oh yeah, this is completely rational behavior alright. An otherwise cool company does a pretty common Facebook stunt and the response is "feth THEM!"

Sorry but I think you need to take your own advice and "deal with it". You're not entitled to preview pics of models you want to buy, and the demands to "show the god-damned pics already" are childish and stupid. And this isn't even that big of a deal, either! It's not like GW's horsegak where they don't show you previews of anything until two weeks before the general release, it's a preview that they were already going to show off at a certain date (which from what I understand is still months in advance of the release, and this is AFTER we've already seen a lot of conceptual artwork for the line), that they promised to reveal a little sooner if their Facebook page got more "Likes". Kinda harmless really, and not deserving of all this hyperbolic crap about "holding their work hostage" or attention-whoring.

Mantic aren't the ones turning their backs on anyone here, its you guys. Because you're acting like spoiled rotten brats who didn't get their way one time. Wait until Mantic is a few years older and has been burning you (I use the term "burn" loosely) for as long as GW has before you start boycotting their product, that's my advice.

Agree with Sid - not sure where all the hostility is coming from? At the end of the day, Facebook is a vital marketing tool these days and any company not using it is really shooting themselves in the foot. Hell, even GW are using FB nowadays and their disdain for all things internet is legendary. I'm glad Mantic have the gumption to use FB in an effective way to hype and market their product; in certain respects, social media can be more powerful than emailing out countless newsletters that never get read.

I actually wish GW would use Facebook to show off previews and crap in a similar fashion. Though I'm sure their demands would probably be something along the lines of "If x,xxx, xxx people buy the new Storm of Magic expansion before 9am Monday, we'll show you a small portion of the concept art for one of our future releases...probably!"

And then we'd call that bs and everyone would say "omg you're so entitled, I bet you want GW to just give you all their models!"

Actually nah, it's probably impossible to buy that many copies of the expansion since they purposely print a small number of them just so they can later pat themselves on the back on their website and say "Oh boy we sold out already! We're that popular!"

I am. I said "feth them" and didn't click the Like button. That's the full extent of my emotional investment in the matter. You're the one getting his panties in a twist about it and making up all sorts of crazy strawmen to make it look like it's unreasonable and wrongbad to feel one iota of dislike for anyone except big bad GW.

Except not many people can argue that GW haven't done a lot lately to earn people's ire. Treating Mantic as if they have the same long history of fething people over, for some trivial issue over their Facebook page, probably the only thing they've done in their life as a company so far that could possibly be considered bad (which really isn't), just doesn't seem very reasonable to me. GW eliminated all official previews for upcoming products, Mantic are still showing you a preview a good four months before it's due, but offered to show it off even earlier just for fun.

I just think that if you're going to say "feth you" to any company then there should be a good reason for it. Telling them to feth off for advertising in a pretty common and non-offensive way isn't a good enough reason in my opinion.

I see bands do it all the time. when they hit a round number, they drop a link to a video or mp3 they put up just for the occasion.

One of my favorite bands, Machinae Supremacy, did a similar thing on Facebook a while ago to promote their new album. They said if one of their wall posts got a certain number of likes they would release a few tracks from the new album early or something like that. It wasn't "fishing for praise" or any of that crap, it was just something fun they did for the fans. It's not like they were going to delay the album release if they didn't get enough likes for it.

Seems like the nerdy wargaming community are the only ones who are deeply offended by this stuff. I mean could you imagine..."Oh no, I'm being forced to 'beg' for tracks from an album that I plan on buying when it's released anyway! This is so horrible! Not a fun little bonus at all!"

But yeah, that's about all I got to say I guess. Still not too interested in space dwarves so I don't really care, but I'm interested in seeing more about the other races in Warpath later.

I think you're reading too much into that one word. Just because I said feth to this one marketing stunt does not mean I hate Matic forever and wish they would all die of dysentery or something. Also, please stop falling back on "GW is even worse!", it's a terrible excuse.

Since I didn't see it mentioned, The reason they haven't posted the pic of the models yet (Open Day/Gencon) is so many people bitch about the photos of their unpainted models and then realize how great they look when painted. SO they wish to avoid that initial bitchfest, and just show off the painted version.

The Unpainted model sitting on my desk looks fantastic.

Forge World actually did that. It's how we got the non-blurry photos from their seminar.

They held a vote on their page for what to show as detailed previews next, and the frickin' Praetor won.

Anyways, yeah. At least in this case, Mantic doesn't have to worry about what happened with some of their preview mailings that never actually arrived.

I dont understand the buzz from boot sides...

We are Mantic fans, we like it (in facebook too), and we want to see those forgefather miniatures...

We are just advising averyone oround that they will show the picks we want to see, if they reach 3000 likes on facebook.

If you dont like Mantic, or dont want to see the picks, or dont want to like it in facebook just to see the minis, its ok... You dont need to rant about that...

At the same time, im a GW Hater, i dont like GW as a company, and like to make fun with that. If someone want to do that with other company (like mantic) and dont offend me or anyone else (involved in the conversation) that should not be a problem at all...

Actually, when things like that happen, we should all just joke around and laugh together. Or do we prefere to burn wyches?

You people are hilarious. If GW did something like this, you'd be calling them worse than the anti-christ.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I think people would actually be happy to see a GW preview that wasn't a crappy picture off someone's phone

In terms of the Mantic "like us to the xth number and we will show you things" - not really fussed. I already follow them on facebook, so there is nothing I can do except sit and wait to see the picture(s). What I think people are complaining about is that they have not ever placed any kind of limits on their previews - just showing them off.

If they show off unique previews on facebook every so often, people will sign up regardless.

Not so.

I'd love any kind of previews from them, and clicking "like" on FB is a small price to pay.

Hmmm..clicking on FB gives them a good count of the number of customers they are potentially reaching.

This data can help them
Determine the effectiveness of the communication platform
Identify the type of customers and what they like.
Share this data with investors to fund more cool product.

Instead they get insanity.

At least if it was GW, those numbers would be racking up doublefast. But since Mantic is tiny and obscure, we'll probably be waiting for another few weeks to a month.

There's a big old gulf there, indicative one would suggest of the true difference in scale between.. well... not just them but GW and pretty much every other mini/wargaming company.

Think how quickly Forgeworld got up to... 5k was it ?... "likes" when they did a similar tease.
