Saw them at their open day a month ago... really nice models, basically exact carbon copies of the forgefather concept art.
They do really need to show them already, I think they're trying to build suspense, but taking things a bit too far on that note.
The models won't be released until November, so we're getting a 4-month preview. Not bad.

That is a good idea, except I haven't liked it to remove.
Would it be going too far to "like" just so I can "unlike" to make a point?

I don't really see a problem with it. They are trying to increase their fan base, in a pretty harmless way. If clicking "Like" is such a hard thing to do to support an awesome miniatures company who actually LISTENS to their fan base, instead of doing everything to piss them off, well, maybe that's why we don't have more companies like them.

It isn't hard to click on a like button
But it sorta reminds me of a kids show and the guy says Hi, and the kids shout Hi and the guy says, but I can't hear you, you have to shout louder ,,, repeat,,, and I still can't hear you ,,, and so on and so forth
and personally I don't play that game. It was tedious and annoying when I was 5, and it is tedious and annoying now.

So, if we give them 3000 likes, they'll advertise to us?
I don't have anything against Mantic, but that doesn't sound right.
Then again, GW charges $10 for a monthly catalog, so I guess it's just a wargaming thing.

Yeah, Mantic is such a terrible fething company, they should be more like GW. I don't want any previews at all. I won't buy Mantic models until they match GW prices. I won't invest in a Mantic game until I know for a fact that the army I pick will only be worth playing for a few months and then I have to wait 5+ years before I get any more models or rules updates. Mantic's mistake was counting on angry internet folk to help them advertise things so that they don't have to spend money on it so that their models stay cheap.
You mean we aren't entitled to cool, affordable models? Why I never. It's almost as if people have no understanding of business at all.

Is it really too much to ask that a company not act like a 13 year old girl? Or if they're going to play coy, learn not to run the joke into the fething ground. If they were willing to show off the models at their Open Day, the non-Brits should have had the same opportunity the following Monday. Waiting a month and then still making it dependant on 400 people jumping through a hoop is just frustrating.

Not advertising, fishing for praise by holding their work hostage until they get so many likes/faves/reviews.

I have been critical of GW not providing updates of their projects.
That does not mean I hate GW, just that I disagree with their lack of communication.
On the other hand I have praised Mantic for being open about showing concept art and greens.
It seems entiirely consistent to not want to see Mantic take this course of action.
Nor is it suddenly Mantic hating. Merely a dislike of a certain type of publicity.
It is silly imho and I want no part of it. If Mantic want me to approve of them, just show the piccies, instead of talking like a bunch of girlies from a high school drama who need others to tell them they are cool.
Like OMG Mantic so totally rock being way cool and popular, like they have like 2500 like likes now! AWESUM!
Ten year olds' mileage may vary, because they only have little legs and the attention span of mayflies.
Are we nearly there yet? Automatically Appended Next Post: Some people seem to be confusing advertising with publicity.
Obviously the years of conditioning by GW's muddled PR has had an affect on the gaming community.

No, I think "holding their work hostage" would be something like "Give us 3,000 Likes on Facebook or we won't sell you Forge Father models at all!", not withholding a preview of one painted figure.
Which, you know, they could very well show off in the next couple weeks anyway. It's not like you have to give them what they want or you'll never see them.

A like is another name for the registration to their newsfeed. It isnt a cry for attention, it simply gives them the ability to reach more people, which is the function of advertising and publicity. It is no different than when they were giving out free ghouls for newsletter registrations a few years back. Except in this case the reward isnt a physical model but a model preview. No harm done, and nothing to do with teenage girls.

Your free ghouls were never made dependant on other people registering for their newsletter. If they'd simply said, "Anyone who likes us on Facebook can see the Forgefather, right now," then you could argue it is no different.

So? Its still just marketing. That doesnt beg any comparison to a teenage girl. They just (quite obviously) want to get a large number of subscribers. There are pay for services that could do that for them, but rather than use those they are using it as a platform for a preview.

In which case, if they are going to show them on BoW (possibly on Turn 8 which will be on Thursday) it won't be long to have to wait. Showing on BoW could also mean "Behind the Scenes" I guess. Sorry, call me old fashioned but again, I really don't appreciate PR party games. Don't want to have to suck up their jelly and ice cream and lick their birthday buns. Just show the pictures.

I get the impression that a lot of people do not understand what a "Like" on Facebook really is.
All they are doing is saying "Sign up for our Facebook blog", not begging for anything.
I see bands do it all the time. when they hit a round number, they drop a link to a video or mp3 they put up just for the occasion.
