Thanks for the kind words.

Blocked out some more of the colors. Added more detail, most of it is just tacked on at this point to show placement and see what I need to change..That being said, this is more or less how it will look as a finished piece.

Ha! I figured out how to mount the servo skull "Henry" to the back pack for added awesome. Here is the test shots after a quick paitn job. once monted and glued inplace it should be very secure.

I also added two "arms" to him...one claw and a buzz saw thingy. They came off of a kids fisher price toy. Some kind of 6 armed moon buggy thing.

Did a little more work while waiting for things to dry... I added to the back section of the gun. I think it looks much better now. I also added a design element to the right side of the gun, the wing isn't painted and might not be the final style I go with, but I wanted something there to show what I was driving at.

Thoughs are welcome.

The old back...note the large drop off at the end..

The new back, much more intergated feel now I think

New design element. The skull was a full 3d piece I trimed down to be as flush as I could make it. It still pokes out a bit more then I would like.

Well, seeing how the guy who was going to laser cut a blade for me flaked out I have had to improvise for D*con...

This is a Nerf sword i have hadkicking around. I did a test paint on the blade to see if I could make it work.
I wish I knew what types of paint to use to make it more durable so I could make a sheath for it.
Anyone have any ideas or know what they use on LARP weapons?

Anyway, the WIP..

The paint job on that blade looks great. Have you worked with any sealers? I know they usually make things kinda glossy but I don't know all of them.

The combi-flamer is awesome too, btw. The extra embellishments on the sides really make it sing.

On a more critical note, while the one side of the hand guard looks cool, the other side looks surprisingly bare. Also the cable is too long for my taste, too much of a loop. I'm more use to the power swords that just have a wire running up the blade, stuck to it the whole way.

Yeah, the tube was there from when I used it before (see 1st post of this thread)And yes, you are right, it is just kinda looped around all willy-nilly.

I didn't want to go crazy working on it only to have the paint chip off 1/2 way through :(
It currently has a few ( i think 6 or 7 ) layers of sealer on it, but the foam flexs so much it wants to crack.. :(

I guess no one will gte bopped on the head with it at the con :( :( :(

O was gunna mention the flexy-ness of those Nerf swords, as we have a couple different nerf weapons around here, that sword is the one I have. Its good fun, but good luck keeping that nice paint job on there Looking really good though, youve got a knack for this stuff

Acryllic Paints. (liquitex, GW, etc) as they will flex some. to seal a clear latex paint, or possibly Elmers.

Or you could try something like Liquid Latex which maintains its flexability. The site has sample kits that should be just right for your purposes.

The problem with liquid latex is it will pull off quite easliy, even in thick layers. regular acrylic will pull off it it stretches too much.

If you're going the cheapest route possible, I'd get some PAX paint, or make some. its basically liquitex acrylic paint mixed with pros-aide to give it elasticity. you can buy the pros-aide and liquitex paint and mix it yourself, or purchase it pre-mixed. Just remember to fully dust it down with a colorless powder when you're done painting with it, or the sword will be forever sticky!

Do you have access to an airbrush? I'd recommend silicone airbrush makeup paint if you do. This will give you full coverage, with minimal wear and tear, even when brushing the sword up against anything. (like a sheath.)

If no airbrush, another option would be to use alcohol makeup paint, it will dye the foam itself (along with anything else it touches.) I use it when I need the make-up or prop to never, ever come off. the good stuff can only be thinned and removed with 99% isopropyl alcahol. The downside is cost, a one oz. bottle is around 12 bucks, plus you need the 99% isopropyl alchahol, which can be pricey if your local drugstore doesn't carry it in that strength.

(as an added bonus, you could also use the alcohol paint and an airbrush for the two-point combo!)

Good luck though, your work is really, really good, and I hope to see more!
