Test mini for a Haqqislam unit. I haven't added any of the details like the eyes or other shiney things, and the gun is a mess, but I more wanted to check the main colors.

I'm liking the cream. I'll probably break it up with some blue in places, but I'm not sure if the green is what I want. I might go a darker shade. I haven't highlighted it quite to finish either...

Looking good so far, nice to see you trying your hand at some Infinity figs I am sure you will be able to do them justice

Green and cream are always a good combination.

I really like the green and cream. Definitely think you should keep it. only thought would be maybe like a little insignia or small detail on the helm thats green. Just a personal opinion but I think that might bring it together more. right now you have the big space of cream with the head and shoulder bits... though maybe the addition of more details and metallics itll end up not needing it(I assume theyre coming later)

In any case, its looking great. Personally I think Infinity models are a major pain to paint xD

I'm having some massive problems with motivation to paint these days. It's not just a case of not wanting to, because I do want to, but when I sit down to actually paint some stuff I can't seem to keep going. I'll do a tiny little bit and then descend to read... I thought I was bored with GW stuff so I tried a few different things, but the result is the same. I start, I get bored, I leave. If you're bored when you're painting what should you do!? If I'm bored when I paint a mini I can only imagine that the mini will be boring to look at when I finish...

Part of me wonders if the 'critical recpetion' I got when my mini-diorama was posted on the GW Facebook page is part of the problem here. Not all of it was negative, but having it ripped to shreds by the few who did so was a real good kick to my painting gonads. It's at times like these I'm glad I'm not good enough to take commissions, because then I'd be up a certain creek without the paddle... Or even the boat!

So what are the options I've got?

a) Pack everything away until I feel the desire to paint? Dunno if this will work. Like I said, I do want to paint. Or at least I think I do. But ensuring I stay painting when I start is the goal. Besides what would I do with the room... (Yes, good one, that's what we should be concerned with...)

b) Paint anyway! Force it until I get 'Over the Hump'. A possibility, I've done it before when I wanted to get a few things finished, but the overall-outcome wasn't the best. I'm a trainee perfectionist at heart. Failure to get things right just pisses me off, but forcing things will leave me in a state of 'Close Enoughs' which isn't fun when you look back on stuff...

c) A new option! Feel free to chime in here. If you've got advice for me; good, bad or mean, let me have it!

Two things...

1) "Don't let the bastards get you down." You're a far better painter than most and in the top eschelon here on dakka and elsewhere as well. Some d-bags just like to rip into people for sport or to make themselves feel self-important. You're better than that, don't let it get to you.

2) Take a break, don't force it. I haven't looked at my marines in what... 6 weeks, maybe more? They were dragging on me and I needed to step away for a while. Played around with some orks, some crons... and most importantly took (and am still taking) time off. I only paint when I feel like it.

You'll sort it mate, just give it some time.

I'm with Gits on this one, Vent. :nods: Don't worry about the harsh CC; I'm sure there were plenty of lurkers who thought it was great (me included ). As for the inspiration, I'd pick up a Black Library book. Give you a bit of a break. Plus, it always makes me want to start a new project

Bro, you don't have a thing to worry about on the painting front, the problem with the internets is that the most negative people are often the most vocal.

Next time you post up some pics in front of an audience try imagining them naked.... wait, scratch that, the thought of a bunch of overweight trolls naked in front of their computers in the mother's basements (while probably accurate) is just wrong on too many fronts

I am suffering from P&M ADD at the moment too, in the last couple of weeks I have half built three nurgle termies, scratchbuilt a land speeder tempest and half stripped down a second hand rhino and I haven't finished a damn thing....

.... and to take a break I have instead built and am painting a dolls house for my little girls.... I know my street cred is absolutely blown yo.

Just saying take Gits advice and don't push yourself, let it come to you naturally

Unaware of the whole facebook thing, but I can only imagine it was a bunch of gakkers that ripped apart any of your work vent. Your painting skills are definitely 'up there' dude, some peeps just get their jollies from knocking others.

Don't force yourself to paint, you'll never be happy with the results you get. Sometimes you just need to do some other stuff to re-charge. Different armies, diffrent styles, doll's houses, reading, video games, films etc etc etc. Yeah, we'll miss you, but I'd rather see good stuff that you're enjoying, than stuff you're feeling 'meh' about and just checking the boxes to get it done.

This is hobby stuff, it's our fun time

I think you need to determine what works for you. I find forcing myself to paint works best sometimes. If you are worried about not doing your best effort - paint something where that matters less or not at all. Having said that, I also agree with all of the excellent advice above

I find switching projects, be it a new army or something one-off (like GMS). My Stormraven has taken me like 2 months, and I have the interior and base green on it...

I think the Djanbazan looks cool, but I'd add a different shade of green to him, maybe a camouflage style flecks on the pants.

I want to thank everyone for their kind words. I'm pushing ahead and figure the way forward is to put aside all my current projects and paint something I've never even considered before and see how I go with the motivation... To that end I spent the afternoon making a base for my chaos sorcerer guy... At least I think he's a chaos sorcerer... Truth be told I have ZERO clue where I got this miniature. It did say GW on the tab, so at least I know the brand...

Paint him in vertical black and white stripes and he can be one of the NFL's replacement refs!! (because he looks like he's signaling a touchdown)

Lol Gits. You could try some fancy grey scale painting (no colors) or even a sin sity style with the addition of a single, bold color. Might be a fun challenge.

HA! Turn him into a Ref for Blood Bowl! Not a bad idea ^_^

Hmmm might be good, but I think that'd be beyond my abilities right now. I'm planning on going the other way and using some really bright colors instead...

One of my favorite minis! I love the little vestigal arm holding the tome. So creepy! IIRC, he's from games day a few years back.

What look are you going for with the base? I'm not really getting it yet...

Cant wait to see what you do with him!

Stone. The Skulls will be in varying states of decomposition and more than likely have some glowing eyes. Probably a little bit of blood too. Gonna work on the base first, so you won't have long to see the next few steps

In other news I'm promoting a great company. I've been using Slave to Painting for awhile now for my purchases of hobby based stuff and some different miniatures, not citadel brand. I don't want to seem like a corporate shrill here, so I'll be very brief. The service is mint, the range of stuff is excellent and they've been rapidly expanding what they sell. Have a look.

Have to agree about Slave to Painting, made one purchase for a set of bases through Trademe and they sent me a $10 off voucher for their Webstore... nice to see a small business playing it smart.

Oh and they are the only NZ webstore with Infinity!

Heck yeah! It's my copy and I'm so going to be painting them up. I'll probably dip most of the walkers, but everything else will be getting some special attention

Update!

Shocking, I know, but true... I went with Pink. Why? Couldn't tell you... I've never painted a pink before...

Still got more to do on the Pink, and everything else. Not sure if I want to use metal paints on this one. Opinions? Anyone?

And here's the Base he's going on:

Looking really good vent!
As to metals, I dont think so. The areas that would be metal are small, so maybe a touch of NMM? Its a hard thing to do, I know, but I think you could pull it off
