Cheers Dex. Congratulations to you here too.

Flesh is something that I fear painting. I find it very difficult but since my scavvies and all the practice there I feel more confident. My recipe entails a mix of Tallern Flesh and Astro Grey, Depending on the skin tone depends on how much of each. In this guys case it was TF, AG and Vallejo Dark Flesh for a base, first highlight more Dark Flesh. Wash of Orgyn Flesh. Wash of Lev Purple, Badass Black thinned a bit. Then re highlight then consecutive highlights with Flat Flesh and Basic Skintone. Very thin Red Gore colouring round the eye. Very very very thin Asurman Blue and Badass Black wash over the head and the final highlight I added a little white to the skin mix. I used a double 0 and then a tripple 0 brush for the fine highlights.

Lol...museum. I doubt it but thanks.

The ladyfriend gave me a strange look.
Don't they always, mine does.

That model defines gothic science fiction to me.

I'd say more but that is the best praise I can give. It has the used future, high ornacy, multiplicity of tech levels, grubbiness, heroism and moral dubiousness in it that defines the term.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

This guy is great. He's bursting with personality. One of the things I find hardest when painting faces is capturing their age. You've done an awesome job of making his skin look old and tired. Do you mind sharing your recipe? My absolute favorite part of this piece is the red ring under his eye. He looks so overwhelmed and weary, and yet his stance is still defiant. Really a beautiful piece. This will be in a museum one day, mark my words.

What was you watching on your monitor LOL

I totally agree the face contains so much character, the look of years and torment really flows through the pallet great job …

Did not want to ask if you had sent them out, but glad you have not forgotten got a really good use for them BIG THANKS AGAIN !!!!

lone dirty dog - It couldn't have been that good since his lady friend was with him.

monkeytroll - Copying and pasting is fine with me....it is nice to know people are looking and commenting.

I'll keep em coming. Abi is ill so our day trip to Skipton has been postponed. So I sorted out the body for the Priest's Factotum instead. It has been driving me mental for ages. But today I cut the Bret boby in two and stuck it to some Empire Archer legs. It has given me the pose I wanted I don't know why I didn't do it in the first place I also built the Autogun...which just needs a few strips of plasticard to integrate the parts together.

Well I'm back in work tomorrow and happily finished building my priest's man servant. Medically retired PDF trooper, who was destined for promotion due to his heroic actions until he received a severe head wound from a Feral Ork. Occasionally has visions of the Emperor and is now generally unhinged. Stowed away on a pilgrim ship etc joined a Frateris Militia, came to the attention of Sonerhud taken on as his man servant. So that is the basics and as soon as I thought about using the peasant in the giants hand he had to be somewhat crazy....look at those eyes.

The bionic jaw was necessary due to the angle of the head on the original model. I'll be adding some tied cloth to the flamer pipe as it looks somewhat plain (shamelessly stealing Jakob's ideas now ).

Originally I was going to give him a flamer pike like on this acolyte but I had problems with the size of the pole I built http://http://www.games-workshop.com/MEDIA_CustomProductCatalog/m1280329_99060108075_WHAcolyteMain_445x319.jpg. So he got a flamer instead which fitted nicely behind the book. Very happy how the drum mag autogun turned out too.

Great modelling as usual, Peter. I like him, quite creative use of parts.
Only (nitpicking) point of critique is the style and amount of his loadout. The gun for example is nice, but doesn't say servant of the ecclesiarchy to me. So without paint he looks a little too much like military to me, but I'm sure you'll paint him up to look like the lobotomized fanatic he's supposed to be.

neil101 - Thanks man. I'm pretty sure that productivity will tail off as I'm back in work tomorrow.

Baiyuan - good I'm glad he doesn't look like a servant to of the ecclesiarchy....they are not allowed men under arms! The autogun is something of a through back from his PDF/frateris militia days. I'm pretty sure the paint will help make him look somewhat ecclesiarchal but that is not the point since he is only a servant.

Ghostflame - I can't take credit for that look....Brian Nelson all the way (his stuff keeps cropping up).

He is being undercoated now and I'm going to see if I can have him painted before the Ammo Bunker Bash at WW on the 10th.

Brian Nelson?

I really like the mix of parts and the greenstuff work you have done.
I think he looks like exactly you described him, an ex-pdf trooper gone fanatic and "renegade".
The gun I would personally have made more simple, special the magazine. I would have made the magazine ak-47 like.
Else just throw in a bipod.

I think there is a misunderstanding. He does indirectly serve the ecclesiarchy doesn't he? In my book that makes him a servant of it. It's even in the (lexicanum) definition of the frateris militia:
The Frateris Militia are masses of the faithful gathered by the Ecclesiarchy to fight wars of faith against enemies of the Emperor and mankind. They constitute the unofficial and generally ill-trained troops who fight, indirectly, in the interests of the Ecclesiarchy. Although most such mobs consist of no more than faithful Imperial citizens, some "brothers" have had military experience in the Imperial Guard or a PDF. They make up for this general lack of military training with selfless fanaticism. In battle they are barely organised, except in huge mobs consisting of any number of militia brethren. Mobs vary from ordinary Imperial citizens incensed by Confessors to zealous self-sacrifice, to the already fanatical members of extreme Imperial religious sects. Such is the brethren's devotion and willingness for self-sacrifice, the more dangerous and desperate the fighting, the more likely they will fight to the death.

Now I do get your point though, you want him to still strongly reflect his PDF days and not make him look like a deacon, check. I initially didn't realize that was one of the core design aspects of this model. I assumed the focus was on "priest's servant". So consider my comment as confirmation of your design concept.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Btw The Escher simply call their man-servants "mervants", I always thought is a nice disrespectful touch. Of course I don't know what Sonerhuds and his (what's his name?) relation is like, but I guess it's not defined by a flat hierarchy.

Man there is just no stopping you is there? Great concept, and you've executed it flawlessly. Before I even read your description, I looked at him and thought "this is some sort of drooling idiot being used as muscle".
My only critique at this point would be that he seems to be missing the back of his neck. A small bit of green stuff back there will fix it up right away.
I could go on and on about the things I like about it, but I think you're already well-aware that I'm in awe of your work. You're one of the best there is when it comes to Inq28.

Baiyuan - In my mind he is a servant to the priest not the ecclesiarchy, though I think that is a very fine distinction and if you asked him he would probably say eccesiarchy or Inquisition. I think your quote is correct too but he was part of a frateris militia. Which in my book are a temporary rabble of untrained fighters taken from lay followers in times of great need. (Blood of Martyrs is a great book). I don't imagine they are given a uniforms etc.and I know they arm themselves with whatever comes to hand rather than from armouries. Another point he is currently in a roundabout way employed by the Inquisition and I imagine he would probably have gotten his clothes and weapons from them.

But my main design concept was to make him look religious but not like a priest.

lone dirty dog - Cheers. He has seen too much...like the back end of a choppa.

Rogue Wolves - You're right I started off with the head and the book and worked from there.

DexterKong - I've had some time off work so I've had some time on my hands. No his next is all there the copper wire you can see are just cables running up the back of his neck. Oh and Dex I'm well and truly impressed by your work too, your priests were taken into account when I built mine.

endtransmission - Ha ha you're building an Imperial Guard army so don't blame me about going broke. The head is from the peasant being held by the giant

Sorry Gerner I blame Baiyuan distracting me with an interesting debate on background and concept. He is most definitely not renegade, definitely fanatic....and a little unhinged. Which makes him perfect company for a monodominant inquisitor.

Brian Nelson sculpted the Warhammer Giant kit that I took the head from. I only added a bionic jaw to fix where I cut his head off. The look in his eyes is all down to Brian Nelson sculpting it.

I think the gun is pretty cool and makes him look a little different, being my main purpose. This project is to showcase Inquisitor 28 and I didn't want to use just an autogun. The other way of looking at it is he is also in the employ of the inquisition and has access to their armoury. I'm not going to add a bipod since I think it would upset the balance.
