It was a good game. While I hold no real animosity towards either team, I cringe at the thought of the New York based media and them having a championship. I am sure now we are going to hear about how awesome the NYG defense is and how Eli is the best that ever played. <sigh>

Congrats to both teams, a well played game all around. Sure there were a few brain-farts but very few teams go through a whole game without one or two of them

Really? People thought that was an exciting super bowl? I was disappointed. TBH I loathe both teams, but I can think of many games this past season that make this game look as boring as possible, I think most of the playoff games were better . . . even when the team I was rooting for lost.

Oh well, this game proves the old adage "Any given sunday . . ."

I think the style of play led to the game being kinda dull. Both teams were risk-adverse and settled for short, safe completions (as evidenced by the QBs' completion percentages), which also tends to mean fewer sacks or INTs. And because both defenses tackled fairly well, few of those short passes were turned into longer gains and TDs.

Well, not easily. I've never played quarterback, but I've been around the game long enough to know how hard it is to control the ball when you're falling over. My guess is that he knew he was going to take safety if he got sacked, so he gunned it and hoped for the best..

He threw the ball before the Giants player hit him: he could of thrown earlier or tried to get it to a WR

Wow, really? Were we watching the same game? What was it, 15 straight completions and a new NFL record?

I watched the game in which he and his team ended up with less points and lost.

People get too enamored of certain stats. Fifteen completions and a record mean nothing if they don't translate to points on the board and a win. i don't care if he had 30 straight, he couldnt put points up on the board when he needed them.

You wrote he played "horrible", which is hyperbole and insupportable. He may one (maybe two) genuinely bad play(s). The safety and arguably the long throw to Gronk, which Gronk would probably have had if he were healthy, and if a darn linebacker didn't perform well above expectations defending that pass.

I agree that he did not play well enough.

So... with the Superbowl in the record books and all...
It is time to turn our attention to the next big event for the NFL

Free agency.
What we can do is find out who on the team you support/follow is elegible to become a free agent then offer your opinion on what you feel your team should do with each.
I will start.

Phiadelphia Eagles
DeSean Jackson WR UFA - Franchise tag him. Yeah it puts the Eagles on the hook for $9.5mil But it also means any offer would have to include a First round pick.
Steve Smith WR UFA - Undecided... he really didn't show that much this year.
Vince Young QB UFA - Surprised he isn't gone already. Let him walk.
Victor Abiamiri DE UFA - Let him shop around, if he gets picked up, kool.
Ronnie Brown RB UFA - Gone!
Antonio Dixon DT RFA - New contract, Keep him for competition in camp.
King Dunlap T UFA - Same as Abiamiri.
Akeem Jordan LB UFA - Hmm, LB was the big problem last year, but offer a two year deal.
Trevor Laws DT UFA - New Deal, he wasn't the best but is a good backup
Evan Mathis G UFA - Extend him... four year deal.
Jaqua Parker DE UFA - Same as Mathis.
Owen Schmitt FB UFA - Let him shop around, if no interest give him a one year.

@Helgrenze, don't you think Juqua Parker is getting a little old at defensive end? I'm hoping Brandon Graham comes on strong from his injury and we sign Parker to a one year deal.

Sign Mathis for sure, our O-line looked good at the end of the season, let's keep continuity.

I'd like to hear others talk their teams up too.

This will be Parkers 11th year as a pro... he had 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and 2 TDs last season. That is down based on his previous performance, but it was a new scheme so...
Abiamiri has been a glorified benchwarmer the last couple years.
Dixon got hurt early but still recorded 4 tackles by week 4.
Laws racked up 20 tackles and a sack.

Jordan had a decent year with 40 tackles. He is also the "Old Man" of the LB corps, a 5 year vet.
I laugh everytime some analyst mock drafts Luke Kuechly to Philly. The last thing the Eagles need is yet another rookie LB.
BTW I like Kiper's latest... Fletcher Cox, DT from Miss State. Watched some film on him... monster run stopper.

I was speaking in relation to his own history and performance which tends to be on the exceptional end of the scale.

Given how he normally plays this was indeed a horrible performance.

It was an ok performance in the larger context of most QBs, but in the context of his own play history not so much...

And let the Bidding war commence!

The Rams have officially announced that they are "willing to" give up the Number Two pick in the NFL Draft..... If the price is right.

The expected target for this pick is Robert Griffin III.

Leading the potential bidders are Washington, Miami, Seattle, and Cleveland.
A Redskins source stated that they would be willing to hand over 3-4 picks, essentially their first three this year and their first next year, to move up for a shot at RG3.

AAAANNNnnnnndddd the winner is.....
Washington Redskins!
The Cost?
Redskins will send three first round picks and a second round pick to the Rams. Now, they get a first round pick in return, which means the net is two firsts and a second. Either way you slice it, the Rams got one of the great hauls in draft history.

Meanwhile in Indianapolis......
A gutting has taken place..
the Colts have let most of their team go. In addition to Peyton Manning, they announced the release today of
RB Joseph Addai,
LB Gary Brackett,
DB Melvin Bullitt,
TE Dallas Clark &
QB Curtis Painter.
In addition, they're reportedly looking to trade Dwight Freeney.
Add in the fact that Reggie Wayne is all but certain to leave in free agency and the Colts team we've known for almost a decade is gone.

Having seen the pres conference live, the main thing I came away with is that, while they kept saying ti was circumstances that caused the separation and not money, it was fairly clear that it is about the money. For the last month or so little stories were being leaked from both sides about arguments over the direction of the team, the salary cap, and the possible status of Peyton's health. They fired the management team that had been there as long as Peyton after the season, then Peyton 'left' the team, and now a good deal of players that were under Peyton's umbrella, as well, and maybe more importantly, as being some of the pricier players on the team. They are getting ready to buy a whole new team and need to free up some of that cap money.

Some huge sea changes going on, and if nothing it will be interesting to see how they rebuild the team from the ground up before next year.

I think that, short term Griffin would be better, because he is the far more mobile of the two. However, if they are really really thinking long term, they go with Luck and try to build a team around him.

I think that short term, Griffin would be the better choice, because he is much more mobile and can do more "Cam Newton-like things" than Luck can. However, if Indy is really thinking long term, they take Luck and hope they can build a good team around him (though not as tightly important as Manning was)

I think the 'Skins did alright with that trade. If RG3 is the real deal, he'll be worth that and more. You need a franchise QB in the NFL or you are SUNK.

IMO, the Browns are really going to regret not making a deal with the Rams. They need a franchise-changing player in the worst way.

I still expect the Colts to grab RG3 instead of Luck. The recent moves they made indicate they are doing a major overhaul in how the team works.
Luck is more "Manning-like", and they have dumped most of Manning's "people". New FO, new Coaching Staff, new direction.

I got 40 Internets that say Indy takes RG3.

Don't agree, look up "Top 10 Worst Super Bowl Winning Quarterbacks". They play to win Superbowls, it's not always on the shoulders of the QB. Just ask the Saints, Patriots, and the other 5,000+ yard passing teams last year.

RG3 won't be in Indy.

I personally think that, while a good athlete, RG3 is NOT the same caliber of running/throwing QB that someone like Cam Newton is... He is more, IMO Vick-like, which means he won't be all that good in the NFL level.

Certainly he'll do good for whatever franchise picks him up, that success probably won't last beyond a season or two because of his particular skillset. Taking a high profile QB in the first round can be quite risky, but also quite rewarding... Personally, I think that Luck has the 'better' skill set to succeed for longer in the NFL than RG3 does.

And yet Mike Vick is doing well as a starter in Philly, and was also pretty decent in Atlanta. That type of QB needs to have a really good O-line to be successful. Washington is going after receivers in free agency... their O-line was horrid last year, and will likely be the same this year.

In the past decade or so, Tom Brady's been to 5 SBs, winning 3. Roethlisberger, 3 and 2. P. Manning, 2 and 1. E. Manning, 2 and 2. Brees, 1 and 1. Rodgers, 1 and 1. I really don't know how it can be any clearer for you. Recent SBs have been dominated by a very select, elite group of QBs. It's painfully obvious.

And RG3 is a much, much better pocket passer than some of you think. Did you even watch Baylor play? Some stereotyping is going on there, methinks.

And the Bears land....

A habitual abuser fresh off his latest offense (or so they say). If these guys would actually get sent to jail the same way the rest of us would for similar offenses... players would likely act a bit differently, as would the teams that hire them.

That being said... the bears *really* needed a #1 receiver.

A lot of stereotyping going on with RG3. He's an excellent passer and certainly better at this point in his career than Vick was at the same time.

Just because he's black doesn't mean his passing skills are automatically inferior to all the top tier white QBs.
