@LDP - Cheers man! hoping they will fit with the rest of the army! The head? I found it on the Venerable Dreadnaught sprue, it's taken some filing/cutting to make it fit into a marine neck piece but it looks pretty awesome in my opinion.

@Ogryn - Thanks man, have you got a favorite model thus far in the blog? Also me making bases, I think I'll leave that up to the true professionals like Warmill

@Miss Dee - Close, its from the venerable dreadnaught sprue.

@Galorn - Fair call, if I could go back in time I would have gone for the cork looking like rock route and spruce it up a bit, maybe for the upcoming Eldar army eh?

@Godless-Mimicry - Thanks, I have an ambitious model planned for the last item for this army, stay tuned

Update: procrastinating tonight leads to brilliance I feel. When I finished this I realised that no picture could capture how awesome I think this is.

Oh and the last grey on the last two done.

Cheers for tuning in. Also, how cool is reaching page 25!

That's one awesome Force Halberd. Please give us a tutorial on how you created that effect.

Very nice job, Knightley! My favorite model is probably the great Apothecary on the first page.

@FP - Thanks man, I've just got to remember exactly how I did it and re-create it. It may be a once of item, but we shall see.

@Gits - Thanks man!

@Ogryn - My first attempt at painting the new way, good choice, he's one of my favorites as well

@LDP - Haha, thanks however I wouldn't say it was a work of art, there are many others out there which I am completely in awe of *cough* eggroll *cough*

Update: more procrastination, not as much brilliance but at least I'd give you pictures of what I'm working on.

@Graven - I know what you mean, this guy, while a PITA to paint, has been pretty cool to assemble etc

@LDP - Cheers, I used roleplayers guide on how to do the engines, I went for a idling pack so the blue isn't as bright.

@Ogryn - I'm honored you think I'm a god at painting!

Update: almost done, just needs a few more coats of white on the legs and I can then move onto the other small bits that are left.

Cheers LDP, the pose is pretty cool, however I'm a bit scared...

Reading back through the history of this thread there has been many calls for me to try weathering and OSL. Well I've tried both on this guy. I'm scared because I think I may have ruined the model. I'll leave that up for every one to decide.

Face - Tried to include some raw looking flesh, not sure if I got it right.

OSL attempt - Again first try ever, stupid idea to go strait onto a live model instead of trying onto a test model first, bugger.

C&C very welcome.

@Ogryn - Thanks for the vote of confidence!

@FP - Cheers, I do feel I could have done it a bit better, perhaps with a smaller brush with more layers perhaps.

@Gits - Nervous, yes, that's another very fitting word! Having spent a week on painting the white I was extremely nervous in painting lots of small black bits then slapping metallic colors in the black, all that work when it would seem 1 or 2 layers of white then had I gone to town would have saved me so much work.

Yes I was nervous as I'm far to used to painting nice clean models, needless to say this was a foray into the unknown.

@Galorn - I see you've cottoned onto what I'm doing, this model will be winging its way over to the UK to take up a position in a friends army (co-incidentally he has a blog here on dakka as well) Thanks for the compliments.

Worry not, friend! The face may look a smiiiiidge dodgy at close range, but better then most of mine , but man, it's fine, even from an arms distance he'd look faboo, and besides, the rest of the model is flipping awesome! The OSL looks fantastic!
P.S Did you get your models back from Australia yet?

no sir! It looks great Not ruined one bit! Although i will say, it appears youve noticed that OSL on a dark color is a bit trickier than on light colors At least i have that issue a little bit myself

I think it looks really good personally, i am sure once you have based it you will change your mind aswell. I find i dont like some models until they get based, kind of completes a model if you know what i mean lol. As for the rest of the thread.. great stuff all round

From your title I was expecting a lot worse. I remember trying weathering for the first time. The whole, 'now i've painted my lovely clean model which i'm really happy with, i'm gonna ruin it'! S#@t ya pants kinda thing!

I think you've done a really good job, the face looks great and the OSL is very good for first time. (I still haven't had the guts to try OSL )

With the weathering, I find it looks better imho to stick more to the edges of the armour and only do a few, very small spots on the flat areas.

But great work as always, keep it coming!

Need more 's in my life!

As the recipient of this work of beauty, I have to slap you now. It's glorious, stop fretting, ya dag (yeah, you heard me, I can insult you in colloquial antipodian ) It's really impressive with your trademark attention to facial detailing. My only - only - niggle is I'm not 100% on the osl on the scrollwork on the left shoulder. But that's nitpicking, tbh. Great and gorgeous stuff!

Knightly I really like your weathering. The only thing that bugs me is his left shoulder pad, some of the splotches jumped out at me where as the rest looks fantastic. I think its the reddish brownish splotch that is throwing me off. Outside of that, I really love that model. Makes me want to go and weather all of my white death company models. Any ways, keep it up. The Mentors look awesome. It's probably refreshing to step away from the gray for a bit.

OH-I Wanna get out of here

If I'm 100% honest, I think your painting style is more of a clean, factory fresh look, and I think you are extremely good at it. Trying new stuff is great, especially on things that don't have to match your armies, and with practice, you will likely be an ace at it in no time flat. Ruined, far from it, though I do think I like the clean look better.

PS, I hate painting on osl. Yours looks much better than mine did.

@LDP - Truth be told I think all of my models look a little 'funky' at close range arm's distance or 50cm he looks perfect , just about right for a table top game eh Also no word on when the models are back, when I spoke to Craig he was mentioning they are wrapping up with critiques etc before sending them back, hopefully this week.

@Bebopdrums2424 - Absolutely but in saying that I was having a hard time getting OSL on a light color as well I think it gets more lost on a darker background because you start with such a dark color to begin with, a dark blue on white would stick out more than a dark blue on black would. That kind of thing.

@CL - Thanks for taking the time to comment! The owner of the model uses D bases so I'll leave it up to him to complete the model, and he best do a kick ass job with it

@E_C - Trust me when I sat down to try weathering and OSL I thought I had screwed it, seems its not as bad as I made it out in my head, looks like its on track for my Eldar army to get a similar form of treatment! Also thanks heaps for the weathering advice, I will totally take that on board for future projects, it makes so much sens I'm not sure why I didn't think of it.

@Emperors Assassin - Thanks!

@Graven - Phew that's a load of my mind, I was worried it would insult the mother land to the point where you'd take it out on your Corgies (subtle insult in your own language eh?) Cheers for the heads up on the scrollwork but I'm a bit to worried to fix it up, perhaps you could give it a try

@Dantay - Cheers man, I'll see what I can do about a tut for you mate

@Ice - Wow, thanks heaps for the comments man! the weathering attempt had 3 different washes tried, black, mud and a random one I had on my desk (in hindsight it may have been a flesh wash) I suspect it's the latter which caused the blotch. I think next time I will mix up some washes instead of using them strait, and yes such a great relief to paint white instead of grey, its got me back into it now almost finished the first Purgation marine, stay tuned!

@WM - Cheers Whale, I agree with you, I've worked hard on getting the clean look down and having the option of weathering on a marine that A) isn't mine B) will live on the other side of the world allowed me to really try something new and adventurous. It hopefully can only get better from here.

Update: Been really focusing on nailing out the 5 purgation marines got all the grey sorted including highlight, all the reds have been done as well. Only the metals, parchments, robes and skin left, apologies no pictures at the moment camera has no batteries and for the life of me can't find any spares.
