Washes are done. May take a couple of nights to do the lining as I have other things occupying my evenings for a bit.

"Land Raider Power Van"....

Actually... an Inquisitor A-Team would be pretty fun. Mr. T as an ogryn... the weedy techy guy as a tech priest or some such. The leader guy as the inquisitor... not sure what to do with the pretty boy... maybe a disenfranchised BA or an eldar.

I'd say its the Night Watch, led by none other than Sam Vimes, Captain Carrot and of course featuring Nobby Nobbs.

Hey, sorry if this is a little off your current topic -

Really good to see you keep this blog summarized and update on your first post. I really enjoyed your battle reports - mainly as I havent played a game in ages. Thanks

No problem TR. At some point (can't remember when)... the blog became so bit that it just wasn't practical to expect people to read through the whole thing. So I decided to modify the OP into an index of sorts, with direct links to all the pertinent stuff. That way, someone new to dakka or this blog could essentially get "caught up" in a matter of minutes rather that weeks.

Actually it's helpful for me too... there are things I know I've posted in this blog... methods for painting my yellow for example... that are lost to time and the internets. The links up front help me keep track of what I've accomplished.

Sorry for a lack of meaningful updates. Last night was very long and I was totally bushed when it was over. I do have a little text update for you though for those interested.

Decided the wash darkened things up a little too much, essentially eliminating some (not all) of the airbrushed highlighting. So with a bit of luck I'll do a little light work on the highest areas this evening in order to brighten them up a bit.

I've also decided that magnetizing the packs is a real PITA and probably not necessary as after Adepticon, I'll likely never run these guys without their jump packs again. So I think I'll just very lightly glue on their backpacks and paint them as is, then when Adpeticon is over I'll just pop off the backpacks and glue on the jump packs (which I will also paint). That should make me a much happier camper over all.

Magnitizing isn't so bad if you have a dremel to drill out the holes. I usually make the hole a wee bit wider (by jiggling the drill bit around) and deeper so as to green stuff over the hole (creating a softer surface for the two bits to rub against as metal on metal tends to quickly scrape paint).

Making sure the magnets are all facing the right way when glued into the model can be made real easy by stacking all the magnets together and painting the end of the stack that will remian exposed a differnet color than the magnets. When inserting the magnets into the model you place some glue (gel works well) on the unpainted end and stick the stack into the hole. Using your thumbnail, you separate the glued magnet from the rest of the stack and with your other hand pull away at an angle, using your thumbnail to keep the magnet in the hole.

The hardest part of magnetizing would be alligning the holes. But in the case of the backpacks and torso backs, the guides have already been provided for you.

Simply drill out your holes in the indentures already located in the "packs". Now cut the knobs off the back of the torsos and use the shadow of the knob to allign your other hole.

Actually it's not just adding the magnets that's the problem, I probably have much better tools than most for doing that. It's keeping track of all those extra packs for each marine, and figuring out which pack goes with which marine as my poses are very specific and the packs only fit in very specific ways, and then dealing with packs that shift each time you pick of the mini (and I use plenty big magnets). It's just not worth the hassle for what is, in effect... a one-off event. Would much rather tack on the normal back packs, then permanently replace them when it's over.

I'll probably only show the WIP shots from now on with the normal backpacks. When I'm done I'll take pics with both options.

I suppose they don't look too different from the first "green" shot, but I am much happier with the way they look in-hand now. As painting green is getting a bit dull, I think I'll shift over to the metals now. I can worry about the lining later.
