Damn, I paranthesed wrong, you mind if I edit that?

Yeah, In the other game where the ability was used, player powers weren't revealed either (it takes some of the sting out of it, anyway), which is why I came to think of it.

Apologies Mr Dave, but I was in the grand library studying rather than down in the main hall drinking. Thus I find my study stops me from drinking too much or waving my bolter around like some drunken lout.

I don't think we should lynch A_F.

He seems to be one of the more talkative members of the group and it would be a bad idea to lynch the ones who talk so early. It happened in Not_u's game and that ended up with a group of people who didn't seem very interested in the game being forced to continue play. It became a slow thread and watching it at times was like watching an argument in YMDC: no-one was really saying anything constructive and just continuing for the sake of it. That's just the impression I got from watching it however, the reality may have been quite different.

If we lynch anyone today, I think it should be one of the quieter members of the group. At least then we end up with a group of people who are willing to post in the game and don't have to worry about whether Quiet Player X is hiding from the spotlight for evil reasons, or whether he's actually just an Innocent townie (in this case Space Wolf) who just doesn't talk much.

People who don't post get mod-killed after prods.

I'm not as taalkative as last game as I managed not to get into a near lynch suituation right away. And also I feel there is nothing constructive I can add at this time to assist town. if you really want people talking they need something to talk about.

Well, I have no real justification for voting for Lord of Battles, so I Unvote: Lord of Battles.

As for someone else to vote for, I am undecided between voting for Arctic Firangi, who seems a bit suspect, Orkeosaurus, who others seem to be targetting, but whom I am not sure there is any genuine evidence against, or looking for the person with the lowest useful word or post count...

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I'm back!

...and disappointed at the lack of activity

the_ferrett wrote:But why should everyone resort to using the blather skill?

I really enjoy the roleplaying aspect of these games but can see how it can be viewed as suspicious, especially when not everyone does it! However, I do not see 'blather' as a tactic really employed to any great extent so far except by Orkeosaurus and YOU.

I kept ferrets as a kid, and if you identify with mustelidae at all, I expect you to snipe and snarl... but if you want to stay around, you'd better do something useful on top of stinking the place up with your rotten attitude.

Good to see I'm winning with three lynch votes now against my name. I'm not really concerned - largely as there are still plenty of non-voters, who I think need to be given attention. They're the ones whose actions, or lack thereof, will determine the most important action of this day phase - lynching on our own initiative.

If I get up to five votes, or when we're down to four days (approx fifty-four hours from time of this post), I'll stop holding back on Orkeo.
If I get up to six, I'll vote for myself and you'll all learn a dangerous lesson in bandwagoning. It's necessary to 'bandwagon' to some degree to get people lynched in early phases, and it's not easy to accuse someone on the grounds of 'you voted for the guy everyone else voted for' when nothing has been proved.

Manchu, could you please reference this Davinite stuff for me? I'm not well read in HH literature outside of official fluff... Abnett's narrative writing makes me ill and I've tried to stay away from BL publications in general.

Not at all Davinite related - I have a bad feeling about Dave... but nothing solid... It's too easy to have a bad feeling, but it can be hard to open your mouth at all when you're scum. At the same time, declaring an intent to lynch quieter members and defending me until... say... the night phase when I'm more easily dealt with seems like a good idea. Too good an idea. Any response to that, Dastardly one?

I have defended you so far as you appear to be one of the better players of the group. Lynching you day 1 would do nothing, as we would lose one of the more talkative members of the group straight off, which would be a bad idea considering we have very little evidence to lynch on. If you're scum, then fine, lynching you would be good, but we can't know anything for certain right now so it would be a better idea to clear the field of the players who don't contribute as much in a useful manner. If you're lynched and you turn out to be wolf, then we lose on of the better players of the game straight off. Either way, lynching you would be bad for the Wolf team. Besides, I don't currently think you are Scum, which gives me even more of a reason to defend you.

At the same time, declaring an intent to lynch quieter members and defending me until... say... the night phase when I'm more easily dealt with seems like a good idea. Too good an idea.
There's nothing I can really say to answer this, as I concede that it is a good idea, and if I was scum, I would either be trying to lynch you now, or kill you night phase - you're simply too dangerous to the Sons team to be left alive. Of course if you're a Thousand Son yourself, this sort of defensive attitude becomes less useful as time goes on, especially as we start seeing townies die by lynching. However, given that we have very little evidence for or against to go on, I will keep it up on the basis that you are currently more useful to town alive than dead - whichever role you play.

It's a sad fact that in all the Mafia games I've seen on this site, the better players (naming no names) either get lynched early or killed off night 1.

I know that has probably dumped me straight into the spotlight, but ignoring it would have been odd, and saying anything else would have been stupid.

Edit: I probably won't be able to reply to anything for the rest of the day, as I am going to visit family, so you may have to wait for answers to questions or accusations - I'm not just avoiding them.

The reason the good players get killed off so early is probably because they expect them to be either anti-town or some super special guy (only one way to find out which >_> ) because who'd be able to tell anyway. If they're anti-town then they'd be even more for it, who else would better see through their guise and pose the biggest problem for them.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I don't see that logic in that statement, n0t_u. Popping good players is only good if they happen to be scum. Otherwise it's definitely bad. It's too early to know.

I also wouldn't call anyone in particular a 'good player'... I know that some here are more experienced in Mafia, but keeping quiet has always been a viable tactic. The fact that I can crap on endlessly is reflected in most of my Dakka posts, as well as my RL job. The fact that 'good' players get lynched early sort of makes the whole idea redundant.

Orkeo has done well in not really challenging my claims against him. I'm at a disadvantage, and he doesn't really have to try. This is good for me because I can wait a couple days too.

Made in au
Lady of the Lake

I was just expressing a theory on why they don't last long. The logic there is circular and wrong

I see it happen all the time and that's pretty much the main reason I can gather from it. The other being that seeing that they're usually to the point they can seem to be leading the group. While that's usually a good thing it can give other players the wrong impression.

But, trying to figure out why they die so quickly isn't really helping here. It's not going to make them last longer, and shouldn't. I agree that just staying quiet all the time can be a good tactic, but it need finesse. Too quiet then you're likely to appear as scum. Subtlety is a much better tactic. You lead them the scum kill you off, you stay in the shadows the loyalist lynch you >_>

Can you explain why you see Orkeo as suspicious? I know we're in the suposed RVS, but going on small things rather than just because is much better.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

I have set a personal deadline for my talking about Orkeo, which has sound strategic reasoning behind it IMHO. It would not be prudent for me to say it now because it is either a complete winner or I'm absolutely on the wrong track. As I don't trust anyone and no one has a reason to trust me, I need to be careful.
I'd prefer to think I'm right and either be right the whole time or go out in a blaze of glory. Being lynched first day in Mafia doesn't phase me in the slightest.

I will ask, though, and would appreciate some feedback... does anyone find the name 'Wolfruneaxefang' odd in the slightest, laterally thinking?

Lady of the Lake

That sounds like a good strategy.

Well yeh it's kind of odd just throwing a bunch of Space Wolf stuff together. But, I think it has more of a comedic effect.

I mean if this was real and you came up to me and said "my name is Wolfruneaxefang, I am also a Viking just like you guys" I'd say "Suuurre... No really". Of course this is pretty different in this setting.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Thanks, n0t_u. I cheerfully await other folk's answers to the same question because it also tells me a lot about the player if my overall assumption about this game is correct.

If I'm wrong, then my basis for accusing Orkeo is gone, but my vote remains with him for the time being to keep the pressure on.

Well, it turns out I'm not as unavailable as I thought I would be.

In answer to your question A_F - I think Wolfruneaxefang as a name seems odd, but I think it's a perfectly acceptable piece of codex bashing. I can't see why it should have any significance.

You may have a different view on it however.

Ehh, if alot more get laid on late dayphase, then i'll back off, but for now, it's there.

Two suspicious things so far:

Arctick_Firangi's "okay..." post.

The person who wrote fluff for themselves or whatever AFTER Orkeosaurus, seems like Orkeo's was just that, and the followers was more of a clutch at a home-free card.

I think it was just a space wolf joke, and a good one at that for Orkeosaurus.

I refuse to call you A_F, too much like another "dakkites" username, hurts to say dakkite in this case. >.>
