They tread it like it is a fad, something to be used slightly whilst it is popular, but certainly not as something that will be around for very long. Samus_aran115 wrote:That's usually the end of the conversation for the staff member. As soon as you mention something like that they try to change the discussion. Of course they do. GW never wants to paint themselves as part of the miniature wargaming scene. They want to paint themselves as the miniature wargaming scene, in toto. That's why virtually every shot of GW miniatures, be they in White Dwarf, on their website or even in their (not-so-subtle ) 'What's New Today' advertising system you will only ever see GW terrain on a GW realm of battle board. So rarely do we see the old scratch-built terrain that they used to pride themselves on - have articles in WD about no less. Now it's only visible if you can buy it in a GW store. Hell, I remember reading the Planet Strike book and seeing a shot where some of their old scratch built bunkers were in the (far) background. I remember thinking " Wow. I've been seeing these bunkers in GW's publications since I was in Junior School... I'm gonna miss them" because I knew that since there was an official GW 'bunker' that you could buy in a store, those old scratch builds would be pushed further and further into the back ground. GW is positioning themselves, rightly or wrongly, to be the only option. They don't want you to ever ask the question "How can I build this?", they want you to ask the question " What products should I buy from GW in order to build this?". They want to be as insular as they can, and convince everyone that no one else exists besides them. That they are not part of the hobby, but that they are the hobby.

A bit cynical there? GW is providing what people want..... is it that so hard to accept. (And I'm hardly a GW apologist)
I guess I don't see this as a big deal HBMC. I for one am glad that they are giving the gaming community what they want.... and that is more options to purchase premade terrain. As much I do enjoy scratch building the odd terrain item. I like the option of just plopping down some moolllah on some GW stuff and be done with it.

HBMC is not saying GW shouldn't provide what people want, he's saying that providing one thing that people want (ready-made terrain) doesn't have to mean not providing another thing people want (a friendly environment where scratch-built terrain is not verboten).

Personally, I always did wonder why they never had special one-day offers or something on their website where everything was like 25% off with free shipping.. then they'd get more orders than they could deal with! I certainly know I'd be there at 12:01 AM ordering away.

DE are perfectly possible, I mean come duke nukem forever is coming out soon(it ACTUALLY IS ASWELL,seriously).
I think this was GW's plan all along, you know like someone in the office said:
"hey, how funny would it be if we waited till Duke nukem: forever was about to come out and then announce DE"
and everyone in the office were like:
"yeah that'd be well lols"

DE get to take prisoners? Not in our current edition kind sir. Not unless we are playing that battle missions mission.
And if that's the case, I bags the women. If there are any in that god forsaken design studio. (There probably isn't or the DE wyches wouldn't be as sexist)

I thought that GW had their own forums a few years ago. I also think that a company doing their own web forums is a huge pain in the backside. Just look at Blizzard and the 'quality' of their forums. They even went so far as to almost kill of their forums with insisting on using real names when posting. That failed because understandably some people did not want work colleagues knowing they played WoW. Next is the constant bitching and whining. Even here on an unofficial forum it is never ending. By having an official capacity GW would be forced to police it with a view that 12 year old Timmy might be reading it. An official web presence is way more trouble than it is worth.
As for the 'big' announcement; I don't think a new army qualifies as something 'big' although the long ignored Dark Elves might be 'big' only insofar as its taken so long. I suspect its either 2 huge army deals for the new WHFB big box armies, or something 'big' as in a Hell Pit Abomination, or a new edition of Bloodbowl. The only other thing I can think of is a first announcement about the Warhammer Forge World but given all their newsletter recently and GD specials they've announced I doubt it very much.

Perhaps they googled the words "advertising" and "marketing" for the first time and realized, why most GW hypes started with non- GW advertising campaigns (Space Crusade, Dawn of War, LOTR mags with one sprue,...) and they are now sick of declining sales and customer numbers

Actually the Tau are busy handing out all the pamphlets to advertise the Riot for the "greater good"
The Eldar are so busy trying to scry out the future of the event that they completely forget to attend
The DE are busy playing with their 3rd edition prisoners....longing for rules that allow more so in a snit they decide not to attend
Tyranids are all held in reserve waiting for the trygon to burst out of the center of the riot.....only to find after the event he scattered 12" off the event...
