Runnin up on ya.

The terror of the fantasy world, the wasp-ork....look at the tiny waist on that thing.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

From Beasts of War today, the Kings of War army list for Orcs!

I haven't really paid attention to the overall Kings of War rules system, so I have no idea how to evaluate this. I'm personally waiting to see all of the models before making any decisions on these Orcs.

Personally I'm disappointed in the Mantic orcs, they are really lacking in the (sculpt)quality the rest of the range has.

That, I could be convinced to buy!

Edit: Looking at the rules, the Orcs seem to be straight up brutal. They deal heavy damage but don't have especially high nerve or scads of special rules. They also look slightly limited in what they can take, at present.

Not too keen on the Orc, was hoping for better when I saw the original green.

The Boar rider from what I can see looks much more the real deal.

Bah, I looked on mantics site, got the frames wrong. The thing I posted was the ax sprue. This is the command

another helmeted orc

This makes me wonder what they'll do with their supposed "Armored Orcs" These ones are already pretty well armored. Still I'm not going to like that we only have 3 poses. I'll reserve final judgment until we see the full range

Note: The bases on the Orcs are wrong, they should be on bigger bases. I kinda lost the ones Ronnie gave me...

Scale pics! Thanks Cyporiean, any chance you have a regular Fantasy Orc Boy or prehaps a Goblin to take a scale shot with?

"Orkses never lost a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!"

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

They look like they are somewhere in between the goofy GW Orc and the more "evil" looking LotR Orc. I like both of those types but the in between look just doesn't work for me.

If they had more weapon options (two choppas... ) I would buy these in a heartbeat. As it stands, they're nice, but not a priority at the moment.

Here we go:

I'm biased in this case because I love what Mantic does. However, to expand upon this, I think they've really gone for their own look, and I respect them for this. The top hat guy looks much better painted, and the bigger bases are very intimidating. Let's hear some opinions, and please give reasons to justify them.

The orc with a top hat does not look like a unit champion. He looks like an orc that got hit in the head one too many times that the other orcs keep around to laugh at. The long upper jaw, weak lower jaw, horned top hat and gak-eating grin ensures that this is not an orc you can take seriously.

That made me laugh. He kind of reminds me of a crook or something that hangs around in dark places. Quite sinister in that sense. Here's better pictures.

We know Orc week has officially ended, but we thought a sneak peek at the Greatax sprue was too good not to share with you all!

As you can see, this is a planning layout shot, the sprue is already with Renedra and we will get the plastics back soon, which is exciting.

The Greatax have been designed so that they are fully interchangeable with the Ax Orcs, so you can mix and match to add that variety to your hordes.

Both the Greatax and Ax Orc sets are great value base kits, we intend to continue to build upon these solid foundations to provide new units and much more variety. We already have a number of projects being worked on, which at the moment already sees at least 6 new unique heads included as well as a significant number of other components.

If you want more details on these you will need to keep checking this blog!

I didn't want to start off another Mantic thread, so I'll put it here. This is really good news, and for those who were not content with the number of heads on the sprues: see above. My guesses are that the "six heads" will be for the "Morax" orcs troops, so that means that we'll get a box set for Ax, Greatax and Morax Orcs! If it is true of course. Unless we get a box set for the Gore riders. They could be resin-plastic though. Anyway, this is News and Rumours so, keep checking the Mantic Blog for more!

Meh. Not interested. They look like a cross between GW Orcs and Warcraft Orcs, which were just lifted from GW anyway.
