I can't answer to that. I wasn't on this board or in the hobby for the last round of price increases. In the original post, I stated that I could live with most of the minor increases that happened, but that I was taken aback by others, such as the land raider and storm raven. I also stated that it isn't the price increase alone that makes me feel frustrated with GW right now, but it is also the problems I have experienced with finecast figures. Fix finecast and then roll out a price increase.

I wonder how many people actually stopped buying last year. Certainly some must have. Beyond BL books and an ork bomma, I'm done with my GW spending this year. That means about $400 in new necron releases I was about to order. Picking up one bomma, instead of three, and buying paints from Vallejo in the near future. It also means not starting up a Chaos Marine army in the winter or spring.

However, that's not the question that was asked, was it?

Almost everyone in these multiple threads are the same voices who cried out last year and the year before and the threads are almost the exact same words with the same moral outrage.

And almost every year, GW's sales figures decrease, only just covered by the increase in prices and payments from tie-ins such as computer games. Surprisingly many people don't use the internet to voice what they do/do not, will/will not be buying and doing - the silent majority just... stop/reduce their buying and a smaller number of newer players steps into the game leaving gaps in the ranks.

Agree with this comment. Myself? I have stated before that I vote with my wallet and still do. From +$300 per month back at 08 to $20 per month now at my local GW store and that might go down even further as I have not been at those shops much any more.

I've found an interesting group of people playing Warmachine and I've already started my Khador army. I'm going to give this a try and find out if I am going to like it or not. But I like the gaming group so far and that is a good start for the game.

I'll still do my modeling with GW products but only buying larger amounts of product at the LFGS, which bty are reducing their overhead of GW product by 20% because of the price increase. Perhaps I'll start selling some of my armies in piecemeal and keep the ones that have sentimental value to me.

I'll spend my money where I feel that I can have an enjoyable time with my hobby.

There are actually a fair number of people who are posting in this thread who registered on dakka after the last increase so your statement isn't completely true. Are there some old fogies like me? Sure. For me, last year was my final straw in terms of large purchases. I had a GK army pre-planned (including the bits I'd need to order from 3rd parties and an army list due to the leaked rules) that simply didn't materialize due to the switchover to finecast combined with the simultaneous price increase last year. I've traded for stuff since then but my actual purchases are down 80-90% roughly compared with what they would have been and have been historically when actively playing 40k. If a new tau codex came out, I could see myself buying a special character or unit in the next year (in addition to the codex) but not any more than that and definitely no new armies. At this point, the only palatable option left is to trade my large unpainted army for a smaller painted one as thats the only way I'll try out a completely new force. Most of the past year's hobby purchases as well as trades have been accomplished by me specifically shrinking my 40k collection to get other companies' products.

As for the on-topic question... I've got the new 2nd edition Descent on my to-buy list whenever it comes out. I'd like to also pick up some Barnaby transports for my southern Heavy Gear army. 5th edition D&D is a possibility depending on how the now ongoing playtesting turns out. Dust is looking better and better but after getting a first degree purchase burn from AT-43 (meaning buying but finding no other regular players), I'm a bit hesitant to jump into that pool. There was a cool looking WW1 flying battleships type game (not the steampunk victorian one but WW1) that was previewed last GenCon but has failed to materialize for some reason; if that shows up, I'd like to pick up a box of that or more depending on the mechanics. Those are the lines that are tops on my mind when I hit the FLGS.

What am I spending my future hobby budget on? The flip answer is 'E-bay'.

If there were another game out there, with a regimental focus (as opposed to skirmish) in a medieval/rennaisance era (as opposed to futuristic or steampunk) with a decent fan base (so I can find a game), then I'd be all over it. But WFB is all there is, at least in the STL area. Kings of War is a possibility, but the system seems kinda... anemic at this point. Perhaps in the future it will grow into its potential.

So I'm highly unlikely to ever stop playing WFB. I'm probably going to continue buying the rules, at least for the forseeable future. I am, however, at the point where I'm not going to be buying any more WFB miniatures - or more precisely, not buying GW minatures. Not when companies like Mantic are making perfectly acceptable proxies for a literal fraction of the cost.

Case in point: I have just finished assembling a big Mantic Dwarf army. 40 each Quarrelers, Longbeards, Rangers, Hammerers, and Ironbreakers. 50 Warriors, 20 Thunderers. 2 each Cannons and Organ Guns; two Grudge Mortars converted from cannon, and full crew including Engineers where applicable. 7 Characters - Shieldbearer Lord, Runelord and Anvil Guards, Runesmith, Combat Thane, BSB, and two Master Engineers - converted from line troops. I spent $240 dollars on three army boxes, plus tax.

Compare that the GW prices. 3 Battalion boxes will get you the Warriors, Rangers, Thunderers, and most of the Quarrelers along with 3 of the Cannons/Organ Guns for $300. It costs $181.50 for the GW Longbeards alone - and that much again for the Hammerers, and then again for the Ironbreakers. The remaining warmachines another $101. Add $118 for the characters (assuming you intend to make your own anvil like I am - change the runelord to the Anvil set and the character price jumps to $157). Grand total for the GW minis is over $1000.

And this is prices off the GW website as of today. After the prices go up, who knows how much higer it will be.

Why would ANYONE in their right mind buy GW, even at a 20% discount from an online distributor, when a discount of about 75% is available just by switching to another company's minis?

I suspect I'll just paint what I have and damn buying anything. Maybe a relevant codex when it comes out. But no longer through GW themselves.

Even WD is being scrapped after this month as a 'don't care' purchase.

And all that money instead will go toward my new computer. Anything I sell is going toward it too.

I'm not sure who I am more enraged with right now, GW or people who flippantly says, its the same old crap blah blah blah ya'll are gonna keep buying the plastic crack...

I am in the army and was gone for about a year and missed the last price increase. when i started buying again it was a little shocking to the see the new prices, but it wasnt all that bad....

This time around my perceived value for price GW is asking is just too damn high. Add in the fact that I"ve had to deal with customer service on way too many FC models and bam its my personal perfect storm of Sh*t.

So will I be buying from GW in the future? Nope. I'll pick up a 6th ed rulebook on the ebay, The models I have now will have to do. If I have to revamp my armies after the new rules. will then I can sell them off for more money now.

Well, tomorrow I'm picking up a CSM Rhino (before the price rise) and then I'll have everything I need for my army.

After that I'm laying low for a while till at least half of my stuff is painted. Then I'm going on to Warmachine & Hordes, since there's a pretty large WMH scene in my area.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Two weekends ago I got hold of a 3000+ point Eldar army. The best part was that the army was just given to me, so it now means that along with my tiny Tau and Ork forces the only army I don’t have is Dark Eldar.

As a result I don’t really need anything else. I want some o’thems big new Tyranid beasties, but the price increase has put them largely out of reach. Of course, looking over my hobby purchases this year so far, and we have a litany of things that aren’t GW:

High-Tech Miniatures
Table-Top Art
Soda-Pop Miniatures
McVey Miniatures
Heresy Miniatures
Fantasy Flight Games
Privateer Press

The only GW related purchases that I can remember this year and in recent memory was the one I did to get metal Legion of the Damned before GW ruined them in Finecost, and some FW models (Rapiers, Raven Guard kit).

So the answer is my budget will probably remain the same... but I won’t be spending it on GW. They’ve all but lost me as a customer (FW stuff is still great).

My budget will be about the same as before, but thanks to Dakka I have discovered a whole new world of alternative models like pig iron and Wargames factory so hello Death Korps army that I've always wanted for next to nothing! Whoo Hoo...
Ironically also, hello to another horde of infantry to paint again.... :(
What the constant price rises mean for me is forcing me away from the shops and more online which sucks for the local market, but what can you do really?

I'm more of a painter than a player. Thanks to Dakka I have found loads of companies producing models which are of equal, and in some cases better, quality to GW. That said, I will still be spending money on GW products as I enjoy playing the games. Not as much money as I might have but sufficient to be able to put an army on the table.

Due to the nature of my work, the time I get off changes from week to week meaning that if I want to play some games The local GW is really my only option.

I think this might be a problem limited just to England but, the only places available to play whenever you like are the local GWs. Most towns/cities do have games clubs but they are, in my experience, limited to just one or two nights a week.

I Still plan on buying more 40K product, just from my LGS where i get a 20-30% discount, All finecast I'll buy from GW as I need it, I probably wont get much other than a few bomma's until the new DA codex comes out, as well as picking up the new starter box for the rule book. I used to shop at GW all of the time, I have no problems with the price, despite being in Canada and having the price knocked up 20% from what it is in the states. My main issue is my local GW is just not that friendly of a place anymore. So i refuse to give them my business

My main priority is building up my Hordes and Infinity armies though, with a possible look into Dystopian Wars and Dust: Tactics.

So I've dropped around ~$300 this month on hobby stuff. I've picked up a new 35 point force for Warmachine, and a 2,500 point for for Dystopian Wars, and a rulebook. At full GW retail, I could have instead got a 40K rulebook and codex, and a 500 point army.

Personally I am getting weary of the 40k exclusivity now, and I want to expand into other areas. The price rise just gives me more justification to do so.

So my last GW purchase (excluding bitz and paint from 3rd party sellers) will probably be a mobs-worth of orks to complete my 1500pt list for a campaign in september, and rest will be focused on Dystopian Wars (If I can get opponents) and hopefully Bushido.

Then I will go back to purchasing random FW or 3rd party models/bitz for whatever project I am working on at the time, until GW releases new Greenskin codex or models for me to buy.

I will not be buying any 3rd party parts which do not fit in with the scale and look of nelson-orks. This means yes to Pupperwars, Kromlech, Forgeworld, Maxmini and so on and not a dime to mantic ever.

I may be getting some PP to convert to 40k orks as I have seen some warjack limbs to ork cybork conversions which really work. I also like the Hordes models for the swamp creatures like gators and turtles which may end up as a bloodbowl team or just fun display models.

Oh, and if Bloodbowl shows up this year, I will be giving GW a fist full of money too.

So basically nothing will change because the price increase is not at all unreasonable or even a blip on my radar. 2/3rds of GW's customers never play the game and buy GW explicitly for the models because I like how they look so if they release a model I want, I buy it. I don't find GW's prices at all out of line with the other model companies I buy from. All the ones who make models which look good enough to be justified to be bought cost similar prices per model or per bit.

Wow! Talk about disposable income!
