Mallards win!

Thank God for the Great Dane beer batter! (2 for 1 *really good* beers if they strike him out) He sucked tonight, which meant lots of free beer for the stadium...

I just love minor league baseball... wish you guys could have seen my little one. He was bored stiff at the beginning, but I sat with him and talked him through the game and by the last 2 innings he was jumping and cheering and calling supportive things out to the team just like a pro! I was so proud!

Well, it was what was in the ice cube tray. For something I just took a guess on, it wasn't bad at all. Don't think it would have been as good with lesser tequila though. Patron's mild flavor blended well with the orange pop.

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!

‎"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

I suppose Tequila could help with taking your mind off miniatures...

Productivity. It can be a mindkiller. I am glad you are feeling better about it.

To be brutally honest I think you get quite a lot of pressure from being a Dakka celebrity, so taking some time out from the hobby is a very good thing for you. And I'm glad that you enjoyed doing the Fire Hawk and LOTD so far! They both look sweet!

Here's my 2 pence of advice. After weeks of lethargy I put 8 miniatures on my desk (different ranges for added interest). Over the last week I broke these 8 down into different 'bits' e.g. undercoating, base coating armour, basecoating faces.

And now I am making head way and feeling much bettter. It's a little thing, but as you have already acknowledged with your LOTD (and baseball with your son) it goes a long way.

Take it easy for goodness sake

Well, with everyone's generous encouragement I've decided to chill. Not disappear entirely, just not worry about painting on a schedule or "making progress". When I feel like it I'll sit and paint, when I don't I won't. If I sign up for any local tournaments, I'll limit my list to what I've already got painted & live with it. If you add up all the things I've worked on (MW's, orks, necrons, nids, Doom Eagles & GMS marines)... I've painted over 11,000 points in two years. I know for some folks that's not a major issue, but I don't paint fast and you figure most of that has come in the last 18 months. For me to do that means I've been pushing really hard for a long time... even if I didn't realize it. Of course then, other aspects of your life have to suffer to compensate for all that time and energy.

So I'll take a step back... maybe two. I don't think it's my "style" to take a complete break from it, but I'll save my painting for when I really feel like doing it rather than feeling obligated to work on stuff with every free moment. That should take the stress off considerably.

In the mean time, I'd like to direct you to Viktor von Domm's "Imperial Steampunk.... Paint happens" blog, which has been growing by several pages per day, is now over 300 pages and will, by tomorrow or Saturday at latest... eclipse this blog in size. Congrat's Vik! You win the internets!

Actually... it's just sitting there... mocking me. I'm not sure how to attack it. Lots of bare skin with patches of fur. OH and... it's white.

It has been on my "painting mind", I just haven't come up with a good approach yet. Right now it's white with a pale wash... oh, and I had to go fix a pretty major mold line that I missed, that took some doing. Think I'm going to just blend the skin down but I'm unsure whether I should go to a very pale brown or pale grey in the recesses. I suppose I should post this on the proper thread...

Looks like you had fun last night, Gits. Good for you! Spending quality time with your family is important (as I'm sure you know). If you're going to stick around, just try to pick things that get you excited or that are fun. Have you thought about getting your boys painting more? Just sti back with a cup of coffee and let them do all the work... In any case, even if you don't model or paint, the rest of certainly will appreciate your comments on our work.

Sorry to steal any thunder, but I figured since you're on a break Gitsplitta, I'd post some more MW goodness. I recently finished three land raiders for my chapter.

That's fine muggins... links to other MW efforts are welcome. I love your Land Raiders! Very well done. The weathering on the sides and bottom is really fitting. One suggestion. You might consider something to give the tops of the raiders more visual interest... they look a bit plain when compared to the rest. But fantastic job all-round! So good to see another MW army coming together!

Besides, I'm "off the clock" as-it-were. Have been doing a bit of painting here and there but mainly enjoying my family and summer time. Most recently I've been working on the Forge World event-only model, the "Skin Wolf" which you can see here if you're interested (it's still WIP, but making progress). Also about to start dinking around with a 3rd grot tank so I can finally have a full squad of 3 rokkit buggies. The LoTD marine project is on hold for a bit because unlike the afore-mentioned two projects... it will be very intense and demanding, which is kind of what I'm trying to get away from for a while.

You mean 6th Ed? Yeah... but I paint what I paint. The editions come and go as they please. Their passing is as a leaf on the breeze at the base of a mountain of granite that is the figures I have left to paint.

Undoubtedly... unfortunately my painting room is the hottest room in the house. Not a good place on a mid-summer day.

Gitsplitta wrote:Thanks for the sage words of advice guys (except for you HAZ, you're no help at all).

It's just hard to "wind down" when I have mountains of figures to paint. If I'm not painting, I feel like I'm slacking off (even if I'm doing something else important). I need to de-program so that painting goes back to something I do to relax and shed stress rather than something that needs to be done and creates it.

Maybe I'll go fishing with the kids this weekend.

You sound in need of a game!

I've signed up for a league at a little FLGS in the next small town. Think I'm going to play my Bad Moon grot army for a change of pace (not that I have that many grots yet... but I can do a variety of grot oriented things and/or proxies). Kans, big guns, grots, grot tanks (rokkit buggies) and my very old ork bikes which are so small they look like grot bikes. Might be a bat rep out of that some time... but not exactly what the followers of this list would be interested in.
