Is this the first time that GW has put a special character in plastic?

Also, yay plastic tyrant. Can finally finish that Battle for Macragge army. XD

I like most of this stuff, but those bonesword bitz prices are insane, and not in a Crazy Eddie way. I have the Warriors and FW wings to do like 12 Shrikes, but I'm not eager to drop $80 on weapons. And I'm not in love a lot of the third-party versions out there. Grr.

The Thunderwolves look a little silly (which, given the concept, was totally unavoidable), but better than any of the conversions I've seen of them. It's still very hard to take a guy in power armor sitting atop a wolf very seriously. Fenrisian wolves, OTOH, look great.

The Tervigon looks fine. Exactly like most every conversion I've seen of it. I hope the players who have put good work into their Tervigons don't feel compelled to buy the official model...it doesn't seem worth it. I also wish the Tyrannofex variant looked a bit more distinct...a bit more like the codex art would've been nice (sacrilege!). I never really saw the phallic imagery others have talked about. It looked more like a walking gun platform to me. Now it looks like yet another Tyranid goofily "holding" its bio-weapon like it's a Mac-10.

I do really like the look of Swarmlord and his pointy swords. And I can't really tell if anything's supposed to have changed on the Hive Tyrant, but I am loving the Flyrant. Tyranids need more distinctive looking units...I'm glad to see one that will really stand out.

These are awesome. Well worth the wait. I like how the Tyrannofex and Tervigon have a similar body design to a Hierophant. Cool.

I'm actually glad they didn't make the phallic gun of the concept art, but decided for an arm mounted weapon instead.

Second that.

Maybe that's why it took them so long to make. They changed the design part way through and kept dithering with it.

I like the miniatures a lot. The Tyranids especially. Makes me want to get some despite the shoddy codex.

The wolves seem decent, in the direction of the model we had already so no big surprise there.

Tervigon: awesome, better than most conversions and third-party kits
Tyrannofex: looks boring and if that big gun is only on one side it'll look awfully unbalanced, too
Flyrant: sweet, love the pose and them keeping with the 6-limb rule
Walking Tyrant: kinda boring
Swarmlord: I like the sabres, apart from that see above
Space furries: I don't give a but I would say they look awfully bland, but way better sculpted than any of the third-party offerings.

I'm guessing that the Tyrannofex shown in these pics is holding a Rupture Cannon, and the one shown in the codex art is holding the Acid Spray.

I have shelved my 'nids in favor of Tau and Necrons. These models make me want to purchase them, even though i won't use them! Why, GW, Why???

Also to sell more models the Tyrannofex needs a white dwarf update dropping its points by about 50.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

With these new models, Carni kits will take a hit sales wise since no more conversion bases are needed.
Amend the Carni stats somewhat to make them slightly more playable and thats another fat cash cow too.

That could be fixed with point drop, too.

Necrons have a 50 point monstrous creature. Yes it is only 3 wounds, but it is still t6, 3+ save, 3 attacks, on a s6 monstrous creature. 50 points! A carnifex is more than 3x that, before upgrades, but doesn't have 3x the killing power or survivability. If anyone said that the point-dropping all of the big beasties in the nid book would make the army broken or cheesy, I would disagree. We don't get the chance to field tanks, so we need as many big bugs as possible to counter the rhinos, razorbacks, land raiders, wave serpents, etc etc.

Same could be said about most of the TMC. Unfortunately, we're in for a long wait. Our best hope is that 6th edition with both moderately nerf vehicles and moderately buff MC so that each is worth its respective points.

Yeah, 50pt monsterous creatures are dumb. Hell, even a Talos is 3x the cost and just as slow...but can only take one per Heavy slot. It would have been better if you could take multiple per slot like Carnifex.

Even though I know its the Nid thread, thought I'd add the closeups of Wolves. The second pic has a blurry Price and it looks like 3/box:

Anyone else hoping their is a rules update in the white dwarf making gargoyles troops in a flyrant list or something would be awesome to see nids on top again

I like the new Tyrant kit a lot, particularly the wings, though I agree that Swarmy doesn't look epic enough.

I really don't like either the t-fex or the tervie -- the weird arch in the spine looks all wrong, for a start.

I'm not convinced that 'nids will GET a WD rules update. In the midst of the Ghost21 fiasco, I don't remember which rumors were credible and which ones were complete bunk regarding Tyranids.

Would I love to see an update that makes the army viable again? Yes, of course, i have about 8000 points of 'nids at my house. Do I think they will get an update before 6th edition comes out? No. I think 6th edition will change vehicle rules and mission rules to the point where hiding in metal boxes all day won't win games anymore. Then 'nids will be able to compete again.

I do like the tyranids they look a lot better than my conversions may buy on or too tervigon and probably buy 2 tryants for a swarmy and a flyant.

Plus it's fairly credible that a GW marketing campaign for their biggest release would fit on one side of A4 - Flashman

It's taking its cues from the FW Hierophant

This would make my Carnifex models even more overpriced and worthless.

As opposed to being overpriced and worthless now? I agree, a Carnifex with no upgrades should only cost about 110-120 points. I have no clue why playtesters decided that a carnifex should be the same points value as a tau hammerhead with a railgun + multi-tracker.

I'm a little ambivalent toward this release. On one hand, the models are pretty good. I like the heirophant-style body for the new big bugs, and there looks to be plenty of options in the HT kit. However this does all seem 'too little too late' to me.

The various rumours making the rounds had me cautiously optimistic for a new beastie with rules in WD, to breathe some life into a rather neglected codex. Instead we get an existing kit replaced and only 2 gaps in the range filled. If these had been released even 18 months after the codex, I'd have snapped up several of them by now. Unfortunately last summer I finally gave up and made 2 tervigons, converted some magnetic bonesword arms, and bought a hierodule to proxy as a t-fex outside apoc games. Most of which came from ebay.

Despite nids being my main army, GW won't be getting any money from me on this release. And I suspect I'm not alone.

YES finally, this made my spring! I ordered a kit of each Tervigon and Tyrant before I saw any pics.

Tyranids - worth waiting for.

BUT - the Flyrant, it looks like the wings are occupying up a pair of arm sockets? What happens to my second set of Devourers?

Edit - looks like it has Scything Talons instead of feet, not sure I like. Are my second set of Devourers meant to be feet? Please say it's not so.

I think the wing tips have slots for guns/talons. It's a small blurry picture though so i'm not 100% on that.
