@Gitsplitta: Me neither!
@Dysartes: Cheers!
@Solar_lion: Thanks very much. Officially, it's quite a challenge. Inofficially: Yeah, it's a challenge, but at least I feel good doing it. So it's not that bad really.
Right, a quick detour into Napoleonics again (not my own minis though; I just built and painted them). Wellington and Picton at Waterloo. 28mm figures by Warlord Games:
Hope you like them!

The next thing that's on the table is this:
Yes, this is going to be interesting, and - so i hope - very pretty in the end. British landing parties of the 1st Foot Guards and the Royal Welsh Fusiliers.

You mean very much now and the forseeable future? Those are Napoleonics as well. British landing parties. I think I'll do them for 1810, judging from the uniform plates I got along with the figures.

Right, I think it's high time for a WIP shot of those landing parties, don't you?
What very, very, very unique kits those boats with the landing parties are. So many figures sitting so compact in a small space. So much stuff I paint will never be seen again. Remarkable.
Well, it's lotsa work. Hope you like them so far (even though there isn't much to see yet).

Howdy-ho, peeps! Hope you had a nice weekend and a good week ahead of ye.
A pretty eventful weekend lies behind me, the latter two thirds of a rainy Monday lies before me.
Here's an update:
Last night I actually counted the dudes on those boats for the first time. Turns out it's 78 guys altogether. A very slow project, that. Unpredictable.
Before that I finally got to watch Jodorowsky's Dune. Been wanting to see it for years, finally got to. Great stuff. Made me feel all artsy and inspired and I had a whale of a time painting the crap out of the rowers' hats. Good stuff. I know, there's few more pathetic things than mini painters pretending to be artists (and I wouldn't), but sometimes you have a nice beer and put on something nice on the computer and things go well. Neat. Sunday nights used to be really, really good painting times for me, and sometimes that glimmers up again.
Anyway, next on the list: Those bloody greatcoat straps on the back of that NCO in the lower right of the picture! Then it's time for some good old shako- and helmsmen hats, I say!

All that detail. You're right that it's a disappointment that so much won't be seen due to the tight fit. Still take pride in doing it. That drum detail is clever, too. Not large enough to do the actual historical designs, but you gave the impression that the designs are there.

@CaptainWaffle: Thanks for the comment! Well, the devilish thing is that from some angles and through some holes the detail IS visible, so I still had to paint it. Gotta take pride in it, because it won't make me rich in anything else. But yeah, I am proud of that. I'd like to imagine that not everybody could do that. Well, they could with a bit of experience, but not everybody WOULD. Yeah, the drum designs are so abstracted that they don't really show, but IF someone knows they might see these two light grey dots to be the unicorn's head and butt, or the white on the other drum as the three big feathers and so on.
Yo ho ho. Without tooting my horn too much, I hereby declare the world to be 2% prettier.
No time to rest on my laurels though. Already got 40k stuff in the works for someone who needs them done 2 weeks ago pretty much. So I hope you like the boats, there'll be more pictures in the future, as always they look nicer in person than in the photos, but oh well. I do what I can. All I can say is that water looks SEXY in real life. anyway, gotta finish that Eldrad, I suppose. See ya!

Right, more WIP goodness. Basically just a look at what's on the table at the moment.
First, a view of Eldrad's backside:
...and here's what's on the table:
Iyanden Farseer, Iyanden Autarch, Eldrad, Sister Hospitaller. All WIP of course. Fun fact: last time I painted SoB in that colour scheme was 1997.

Eldrad is already looking great, the Sister looks solid, and the yellow on the two Iyanden models is really nice

@Dysartes: Thanks very much. As always, they look nicer in person. The water's a mix of milliput, aluminum foil, water texture, and paint. Took about three days to make'em and they were quite experimental. Never done such water surfaces before (at least not that size and style). Just got lucky that it worked out so well right away. In real life the surface looks more translucent; a little bit like jello. Very sexy looking stuff.
Right, another WIP:
The farseer and the autarch are more or less done, Eldrad needs some more work, the sister hospitaller and her pal need a bit more work. Started doing the scrolls and doves earlier today though.
Hope to get the Sisters done soon and Eldrad as well. Then it's time to do the Triumvirate of Yinnead and after that it's time for Celestine!

@mosko: Thanks very much. @Solar_lion: Cheers, much appreciated! I don't paint a whole lot of Eldar. Actually out of all the factions the most I painted is Harlequins. But yeah, I've done some Iyanden characters over the years. They look really nice once done. It's all about that yellow. @IGtR=: Oh, thanks for the comment! Absolutely. Hard to make time for those I suppose as at the same time one could churn out 2 or 3 line battalions (might be one of the reasons why I was hired to paint/build those), but once they're done it's really, really good to have them. Right-o, speaking of the British landing parties, here's the obligatory pictures with white background: Sadly I don't have any pictures of one of the best figures of the set: Among the soldiers each boat has one guy who took off his shako, bent over, and holds the shako like the 19th century nautical equivalent of a barf bag. Of course I painted the faces on these guys in an appropritately pale/greenish hue. Anyway, hope you like the pictures!

@Gwn chan 'r Gwyll: I'll see what I can do.
But first...
Took me forever, but I finally got another game of In Deo Veritas on the table. This time I didn't use a pre-made scenario, but wanted to take a historical battle and turn it into a scenario myself. A few paragraphs on how I did this were originally planned to be part of the battle report, but I decided to turn it into its own article because: a.) I hoped it might be interesting to people, so it would be a shame to hide it away in a battle report, and b.) it would have made the already huge battle report article even bigger.
So here's the article on how I wrote a wargames scenario based on a historical battle, including some general thoughts on scenario design, research, and so on:
https://www.tabletopstories.net/language/en/2020/07/making-a-wargame-scenario/
It's by no means a definitive guide, more like one possible approach and some ideas. I found that very often a little nudge in the right direction (plus a healthy dose of "omg, I could do way better than this guy!") or simply a little bit of inspiration to having a go oneself is the most useful thing to draw from an article. Which I hope I provide here.
Well, and once that was done it was time for the proper game and thus battle report/AAR!
https://www.tabletopstories.net/language/en/2020/08/in-deo-veritas-battle-of-hochst/
I'm pretty sure it's the biggest game I put on the table thus far. The fact that I knew the scenario and surrounding circumstances really well of course helped the immersion and my emotional investment in the whole thing. So despite this being yet another solo adventure, I really enjoyed the game. The first IDV test game (Fleurus) was a little clunky, but I think I 'get' the rules now.
Oh, and I included some bits on Friedrich V. of the Palatinate in the battle report. Since he's a pretty pivotal player in the early phases of the Thirty Years War and because this month's his birthday.
Anyway, hope you enjoy the articles!

Okay, let's get back to more light-hearted things, meaning 40k.
Finished the Iyanden pals (except for one detail i have to add) and Eldrad. I even finished the Sister Hospitaller!
So I proceeded to the Triumvirate of Ynnead. These are to go with the Harlequins I painted last year. So sticking to the theme I present you with WIP shots of Cpt.Bavaria and Mama Bavaria:
On the colour schemes I took inspiration from a guy who actually travels the world calling himself Captain Bavaria and comedienne/actress Luise Kinseher.
Hope you like'em so far! Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh, right, the cat. Yeah, here it is:

@Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll: Good call!
@Sherrypie: Thank you! Yus, GMB flags. I got them from the gentleman I built/painted these boats for, but GMB's also my personal choice for 28mm Napoleonic flags. For smaller scales I go with Maverick Models, as he'll let you scale the flags exactly to the size you need.
I started working on the Yncarne, the Avatar-type chap from the Triumvirate. Lots of....blending and whatnot. I'll restrict the blue/white on him to the magick-y swirly bits around him. Made me think of the actual Avatar figure. They still use the same figure. I'm rather sure he must be among the oldest sculpts in GW's current catalogue by now, right? When was he released? 1994? He pops up in the 1994 GW catalogue first I think.

Heyhey. Painting that Eldar Yncarne (avatar dude with the swirly effect bits aorund him) was kinda tricky to paint. That went reasonably well, so I'm upping the difficulty by painting figures which are mounted on friggin' SPRINGS.
