Were you also weirded out at first that the left part of the braided beard just ends in the metal bit while the right part doesn't?
The bit for the braid on his back was on the same sprue as the mohawk and non-pointing axe, if that makes sense.
Yeah, the beard dead-ending on one side is a bit odd, now I come to think about it.

@Dysartes. Alright, thanks for reminding me. Yeah, isn't it weird about that beard? First I thought these two ends were meant to go on the beard instead of one for the beard, one ofr the braid. But oh well. Main thing is that we get the model built somehow, right?

Very true - though I'm putting Mr Slayer on the backburner as the metal King Alrik I got off eBay has turned up - I'm fairly sure a lord, three heroes and an Organ Gun isn't the right way to (re)start a Dwarf ary, but what the heck...

@Moltar: Thanks very much! The picture isn't perfect of course but at least I can prove that the warband's almost done now!
@Dysartes: Ooh, that King Alrik is a fun model. Good catch. Yeah, it sounds a bit like an odd start if you apply the usual "do as many of the "boring" units first, then treat yourself to some characters and war machines" strategy but what the heck indeed. As long as you have fun and get something done it's all good.
@MrMerlin: Cheers. It is indeed a bit more muted but if you put it in the context of ruined Mordheim I'm sure the guys look colourful enough.
@Baiyuan: Thanks very much!
@Reaper Man 2020: Cheers, it's really a nice scheme to tie them all together.
THank you for the feedback on the group shot guys. I will do some final touching-up on the models and then make some more individual shots or smaller group shots too. Not sure if you can see it in the picture but being in an autumn moon, I made the cobble stones to look wet in some places and added some dead leaves.
To mix things up a little bit, I decided to so something slightly different this weekend. During weekends I like to do smaller bits and pieces instead of continuing what I did for most part of the week just to get some diversity in there. So I started a little Dwarven/Empire conversion project I had been lying around for WAY too long (sorry about that. I'll finish it asap) and while I waited for green stuff and milliput to cure I started painting another fella.
Remember these guys?
They are part of a pretty cool commissioned Khorne CSM army I did a while ago. Now they're getting a new boss:
Rather early stages of painting though. Very fun model to paint and it's plain weird having such a big finecast model in hands. Of course I did similarly large Finecast models before but with this, knowing the sculpt and always associating it with being all metal it's weird holding it in its wobbly resin-plastic form.
Apart from that it's national holiday. And that model expo thing is taking place, this year without me. Hm, usually I'd start ranting and rambling about either of these topics but I can't really think of anything to add. ;-) Hope you like the Bloodthirster so far! Automatically Appended Next Post: Update!
Now the guy's getting a bit more colourful.

@Gitsplitta: Yeah, must be something like that. Or the pose you stand in as soon as somebody yells "Freeze, I lost a contact lense!"
@Ice Angel: ^^ There is something about the poses of these Contemptors. Never built one myself, the three I did so far all came pre-assembled by the customers, but I think that it's kinda of hard to build them in poses that look "right". Say what you will about the classic Dreadnought design - you really had to work hard to make their poses look slightly off.
@Vitruvian: Hehe, thanks.
So after about eight years I finally dumped my old sound setup (subwoofer's been dead for years already) and got a new one. It's weird to notice how much my whole desk was pretty much built around the subwoofer's exact measuerments. The new one is a bit wider and lower and not only I had to rearrange all the basing materials, it also looks pretty different now. The main use of my subwoofer is to use it as yet another place to put miniatures on. When removing the old one I first had to take a detachment of Epic Space Marines off the thing along with the finished Mordheimers and all other kinds of random stuff. When I put them on the new subwoofer I could try turning bass volume to 11 and let them dance a little. Mwahahaha.

@MrMerlin: Hehehe, yeah, posing Contemptors is an art in itself I suppose.
Here are two fellas I did less battle damage on (yet at least, mwaahahahaha):
Space Wolves Drop Pods! Woo! And WIP too. Obviously.
Here is a tiny update on the Dwarven witch hunter as well:
As you can see I added a twin-tailed comet badge thing to his hat, sculpted a bigger treestump for him to stand on and added a huge pistol on his back. Never mind the fact that the hat's main part is a bit off to the side, it's not attached to the model yet. Happy belated Halloween by the way, hope that everybody had a nice and "safe" as they say holiday with friends, family, films, foolery, fluids and food!

Yesterday I had a game of Warhammer 40,000! Even more gasp-inducingly, I played good old Sisters of Battle. Great army which I neglected for way too long. I think that the last time I played them was either in 4th edition or for the first game in 5th edition. Reason I went for them is that Over the year I got a weary of my other two armies, IG and Orks. With IG I tend to write lists which are rather boring and I never actually do all that much on the battlefield. With Orks I got the problem that due to my theme it's really hard acquiring vehicles. I either build them myself or I'd have to get old Battle Wagons off ebay (for insane prices and usually shattered to bitz) or the old Gunwagon from Forgeworld and I don't feel like having to move 70 something miniatures around during movement phase. Sisters of Battle as an army are lots of fun because you have to move around but also don't really want to get into close combat. Boltguns and power armour are amazing too. Actually, this was the first game of 6th edition I enjoyed out of the three I played so far. It really makes a difference playing with a friend and at home rather than with strangers at a venue. Not that this is less a nice experience, I guess I'm just more used to playing that way. Just not one to warm up to strangers quickly. :p
Game was fun. 1000pts versus Space Marines. I brought a
Canoness with power axe (and without any plan for how to use her) - rolled for trait and got "inspirational leader" or something, allowing units around her to use her Ld of 10 instead of the regular Ld9. Yay.
1 squad of 10 SoB with Storm Bolter and Multimelta
1 squad of 10 SoB with Flamer/Melta and a Rhino
1 squad of 10 SoB with Flamer/Melta and a Rhino (with searchlights!)
7 Seraphim (who spent the whole game doing something undoubtedly very important off battlefield and didn't want to show up)
5 Retributors with 4 heavy bolters
1 Exorcist
Space marines had
1 Epistolary Librarian (terminator armour) - rolled a pretty darned great trait giving all his units +1 to cover saves in ruins. Resulting in 2+ cover saves for these Scouts in the ruins.
5 terminators (1 assault cannon)
1 dreadnought (twin-linked lascannons, missile launcher)
1 squad of 7 Scouts (6 sniper rifles, 1 missile launcher)
10 space marines (missile launcher, plasmagun) in two combat squads
5 assault marines (power sword on the sergeant)
Mission was "kill all wot's not us", first turn night fighting, set up was the diagonal one. I got the first turn, set up, Space Marines took the rather important center ruin my infiltrating the Scouts and then making a Scout-movement. Wasn't aware that this was possible but then I was surprised by a lot of rules changes I learned about this game. Next, Space Marines stole initiative and sniped my Canoness dead, resulting in me losing my commander, granting my opponent victory points for First Blood, killing the enemy general and of course for eliminating an enemy unit. To make up for that the remaining sisters flipped out and did a bunch of really impressive rolls during the rest of the game (because they love nothing more than martyrs you see. :p Sadly my Seraphim never showed up. On the other hand I was lucky that my opponent's Terminators and Assault Marines didn't show up at the same time. First the Terminators teleported into the middle of my army, really eager to get rid of that Exorcist.
Fortunately the Exorcist proved to be a beast and withstood everything that was thrown against it, killing three terminators including the Librarian the next turn. The rest of the terminators was done away with by some lucky Retributor shots. Scouts were soundly kicked out of the ruins in close combat. Only their Sergeant managed to flee but stormed in again the very next turn. When the assault marines showed up they scattered 10", right between two bits of ruin so no dramatic mishap, just a slight scatter towards the SoB lines. Two of them managed to get into close combat against a squad of 9 SoB but were overwhelmed. At some point around turn#4 or 5 we called it a night.
The end
Learned a fair bit about the new rules. For instance transports. The way they work now really cought me off guard and I had to rethink a little. I think I like the changes though, especially in regards to the kind of "passenger door challenged" transports like Chimeras and Serpents/Falcons. Searchlights just confused us. I guess it makes sense but you have to wrap your head around it first. All in all we agreed that 6th edition rules really work nicely but, with the mix of 3rd, 4th and 5th edition rules embossed in our brains, we probably have more trouble learning the new rules than new players would because they're more intuitive now than before. Love the new way of removing casualties, random charge ranges, snap shots, overwatch, etc. Now if GW got rid of changing rules around and releasing new codices I'd be really happy with the game. But I guess that's like asking a shark to stop swimming.
Oh, one word on the new SoB list: I don't roam the 40k tactics section all that much any more. Used to be very present in the IG and SoB tactica threads back in the day but not so much any more so I don't know much abou the general interweb notions towards things but I didn't exactly read glowing reviews when the WD list first came out and indeed I mourn the loss of certain options (like Assassins, Inquisitors and the like) but then to be honest I always played "pure sisters", MAYBE with the odd squad of Inquisitorial Stormtroopers added. I think I had a platoon of IG allied once or twice. That was fun too but ultimately I missed the sisters. ;-) And of course there's allies now. But then I'm a bit cautious about allies. Great idea of GW of course (as well as giving players to buy fortifications for points) but a bit icky feeling. Not sure.
edit: Yeah, my SoB army isn't fully painted at all. About two thirds of the SoB themselves are (to a standard of my painting stuff around 2003, 2004), one of the Rhinos is finished and the Retributors but I really should give the army some more painting some time. And more Exorcists. :p

Hey guys, it feels like ages since I updated but here we go. Finished Drop Pods:
I promise that these are two different pods, not just the same one just from different angles. :p They obviously just look pretty similar.
In other news, last night I once again had the honour to witness the exquisite genius that is an Amanda Palmer gig. Four acts before she actually got on stage but it was well worth the waiting. Really, really good stuff.
In actually relevant news, this morning I got the toys I had ordered to get by mid-October and have them finished by Halloween!
Wayland games were so kind to split my order (at no additional fees) so I get my toys faster after I had sent them an inquiry e-mail so I got the first part of the order now. Pretty cool. Anyhoo, first and foremost we got a bunch of 28mm Zombies from Wargames Factory. The very pulpy Zombie Vixens set and WGF's regular old Zombies! set. Each of the boxes has 30 zombies (plus some "crawlers" in the Vixens box. I think it's about five.). There are 30 more coming up for the horde in the shape of Mantic zombies lateron which leaves me with just over 100 Zombies for which I don't really have a plan yet. Review them I guess. Try out some zombie rulesets or convert some sci-fi rulesets to have zombies in them. Add Typhus and use them as a CSM army. Something like that. I think I'll review them too ("like you reviewed that thing, these other things and that thing before? All these reviews that didn't happen?" - Yes, shut up.)
The second thing I've been curious about for years. Anyone of you used those PLATFORMER things before? Even though they don't provide much cover they look like fun to have on the table and are really kind of cheap. The very same things are also sold under another brand name I think by Pegasus miniatures. Anyhoo, that's it for now. Next up: some Blood Angels and probably some Pre-Heresy stuff.
edit: Oh yes, the other thing I wanted to mention. On the whole case of Maelstrom (formaly probably my favorite online vendor). They seem to be gone for good now. Definately. But then again...
Well, just take a look at this rather interesting blog article: http://troubleatthemill.blogspot.co.uk/2012/11/maelstrom-games.html
