@Gits - Yeah it was nice to try another army and one that wasn't a power list, and of course my mate never fails his 2+ save yet I can roll ones like its going out of business. Intresting to note that was my first maelstorm game and I needed 6 obectives so every one look forward to 3 more objective markers

Update: Bile done
Old version

And the repainted version

Love these comparison shots from old paint jobs to new, really gives us guys starting out inspiration to keep getting better in the hope of producing something as awesome one day.

I like that pack/harness on bile, very well done and the metallics on the arms are great!

@Camkierhi - Huge thank you, having that old model updated does mean a lot for me

@Meph - Thanks!

@Graven - cheers (Also trying to come up with a fantastic/other word mash up but I'm drawing a blank)

@Gits - I wouldn't say its staggering, just a redesign that has come of age

@Mad - That is part of why the chaos lords are getting a revamp, being able to see that I wasn't the best painter when I started but after years of practice I can get some nicer results.

Update: Well with the power out over the weekend there hasn't been much done at my end. So I figured I'd do a large photo of models for you, this was taken earlier this year so there are some more painting done.
Models. So many models

@Mad - Yup all of them are owned by me, quite the collection built up over the years, started with DA, moved to UM, dabbled with Eldar and Tau, finishing it up with Crons (and there will be a rising of those once this push is done might I add)

@Warboss_Waaazag - That many Orks! my god man, I thought I had a problem keeping one army on track, how on earth have you managed to stay with one army!?

@Ckig - Thanks, I was worried the 3-4 attempts to get his eye right may have destroyed all the detail but seems not to have done that badly by him.

@AkhilleusK42 - Thanks for commenting! What has you phobic of getting into lense/visors? is it not knowing what to do? the colour choices? perhaps the members of Dakka can offer advice to help you become a better painter?

@Gits - Agreed, we have been together for quite a while it kind of creeps up on you over time, what's made it worse is once I've completed a push I put the models into carry cases to keep them safe, I'm now up to 2 large carry cases and 3 smaller ones, getting them all out back then was quite the eye opener. Want to know something else? All of those models are the ones that are assembled/primed it doesn't include the stuff that isn't made up, like another 25 marines, deadnaughts, bikes, terminators, more marines the list goes on, I may try a big push to get all my models assembled, then take a picture and we can wax lyrical about how mad I am having all of these models

Update; well onto the next item it seems. A land raider is next, sadly we had a fire alarm at lunch time so all you see here is the meagre paint applied.
Apologies for the next while as I suspect only seeing small updates on a large tank might get a bit boring, but fear not, there are more interesting models coming up!

@WM - You know me to well, a bit of history on this tank, I brought it in 2005 when the metal GKs were released and I had always planned to make it in to a super battle tank and what we have here is the culmination of many years of it sitting in a box

@Mad - Good company all round then

@Camkierhi - Thanks mate, so long as we are all right in our heads who's to question us? those sane people have no idea of what resides inside our heads

The Table

My Deployment
I rolled high enough to get first turn, rolled warlord gets an extra psychic power, the Grandmaster rolls up Gate, Vortex and a Witch fire based off of leadership (I used once) The Librarian rolls on Divination and rolls up Invisibility and some regroup one. This changes how I was going to run my list. Terminators are joined by the librarian and the Grandmaster and start on the table. The Strike squad reserves in the Storm raven along with the interceptors and the Dread Knight. On the table I set the Whirlwind up in the corner behind a hill out of line of sight. The Aegis line goes square with the quad gun and scouts + Telion to have him start using the quad gun. Seeing as I have a spare Rhino I put that 3” away from an objective and have it do nothing. The predator hide behind the Aegis walls for protection. Terminators take center stage with the Vindicator in behind as well as the Techmarine. Right flank has the razorback with half the tactical squad and in the ruins the last half just in range of the other objective.

LDP Deployment
In reserve are his scouts. Table wise LDP’s right flank he sets up both Rhinos with the Tactical squads, hunkering in behind are the devastators. Center stage is the Predator with the land raider with the Marneus death star. His left flank is manned with the captain and the command squad with the two dreadnaughts.
I mistakenly leave the Callidus off the table instead of deploying 1” away from a squad ready to melt face, she has to come in on reserve. LDP fails to seize

All Deployed

My Turn 1
I pulled capture objective 2, which just happens to have a Rhino sitting on it, a troop choice transport, woot! Rolling for the GK’s reserves (due to the formation) only the interceptors come in and the land near the devastators,

The Terminators whiff their move through cover and move 3” crud baskets.

Psychic phase has invisibility fail to go off on terminators and hammer hand does go off on the interceptors. Shooting has LDP Predator take a glancing hit and the psycannons from the terminators take one Dreadnaught down to 1 Hull Point and immobilize him.

Shooting from the Interceptors only manage to kill one devastator but not enough to force a moral – bugger, really hoped that might have paid off, looks like first blood just escaped my grasp.

LDP Turn 1
Movement has the Rhino 1 move forward and the troops disembark, the second Rhino hold still, the poor Interceptors never knew what hit them. The land raider scoots left and the stern guard move forward on foot.

Left flank has his mobile dreadnaught rock forwards and the command squad heads to the ruins but stay off of the terrain.

Shooting has the predator and a single machine sprited Lascannon blow the lonely Rhino into dust.

The Tactical squads and devastators mince the Interceptors however a single plasma gunner ends up with egg on his face, I mean plasma on his face, and yeah he died.

The combined shots from the Dreadnaughts, Land raider and Command Squad kill three terminators.

Very effective first turn from LDP, however no objective cards completed.

My Turn 2
Roll on reserves and the Dread knight comes on, so too does the Storm raven and the Assassin. Bad news bear has the Dread knight scatter onto a unit and ends up going back into ongoing reserves. The assassin comes in beside the Devastators.

The Vindicator moves forward dead set to blow some stern guard back to whence they came. Terminators do manage a good 6” move from terrain, my Razorback combat speeds forward his sights set on the command squad. The last movement has the Predator move left a fraction to get a shot on to the off sider predator. Psychic phase has Invisibility go off on the terminators and I decide to throw a witch fire at the command squad and kills one. Shooting has better results. I manage to have the land raider take a hull point and gets immobilized,

The Twin linked assault cannon shoots at the immobile dread and takes another hull point. The combined psycannons from the terminators blow apart the other dreadnaught. Quad gun + Razorback + Plasma cannon from the tacticals leave only the captain, apothecary and a plasma gunner in the command squad alive.

Vindicator has a very nice hit and kills all but three Stern guard who then fail morale and run away! I would too if a Vindicator was shooting at me!

The assassin shows some nice killing by leaving only two devastators alive. No assaults are done.

LDP Turn 2
The tactical squad embark into their Rhino and bug out down his right flank. The other Rhino combat moves towards the defense line, His predator moves left, eyes set on my Razorback, the Stern guard regroup and move forwards again. The Devastators realizing they are going to get cut down make a good choice and run towards the Land raider, whose occupants opt to stay inside for security.

The command squad stay put so the salvo relic can fire at the max distance. Shooting has success taking out the Razorback and pinning the squad inside

My Vindicator takes a glancing but doesn’t suffer any further ill effects. One of LDPs tactical cards is to destroy an emplacement or building. My quad gun is an emplacement so a ton of fire gets thrown at it however only one hit point gets removed, and I lose a single scout.

The two devastators snap fire at the assassin, one hits, it wounds however I pass my invulnerable save, phew my heart was pumping there.

My Turn 3
Tactical cards I pull three and two of them are capture objective four, the third card is an opponent nominated objective, and LDP chooses Objective four, because it’s right next to his death star, smart move. However the Dread Knight comes on again, and I put it 5” from Objective four however you guessed it, he can’t shake the bear and scatters again onto a unit and goes back into reserve! Gah. The Terminators continue to head towards the land raider, I want to get some action with some Demon Hammers.

I realize I have a storm raven with a strike squad in it, hmmm. Switching to hover mode I move the raven and deploy the strikes onto the objective, that’ll be 2 VP + D3VP thank you very much, risky as the raven is now in hover mode however the number of VP has me go for it.

My predator rotates on the spot and aims at the left most Rhino. The assassin heads towards the devastators ready to mess some marines up. Psychic phase has invisibility go off again, however I rolled a double 6 and I rolled up the one where if I fail leadership he dies and the unit suffers lots of painful hits. I rolled a 9 and we had to consult the book for his leadership, luckily he’s leadership 10 and crisis averted (still suffered wound though) My predator shoots at the rhino, gets a weapon destroyed and takes it down a hull point.

The scouts + Telion shoot at the other Rhino and just does a hull point. The devastators take a death but hold fast.

The magic that is a Twin linked multi Melta comes through and blows the land raider up, yes! I clear up the dreadnaught and Stern guard with the remaining units. Interesting to note. The Vindicator had the best target with the death star but scattered the full distance away, boy was LDP lucky there. Assault wise, the Assassin makes it into the remaining devastator and kills him easily, consolidating closer to the Marneus star.

LDP Turn 3
Movement has the Death star head towards the skimming Raven and strike squad, the Rhino on the left flank moves even further forward, central rhino moves forward to be close to the objective and piles out the marines with eyes set on the assassin. The Predator decides he will hunker down and start shooting at the Vindicator. On the right flank the command squad + captain jump up to the first floor window ready to shoot at some marines.
Shooting goes pretty well, the combine fire from the central rhino and tactical squad have the assassin on a single wound when the sergeant steps up to the plate and shows them how it’s done taking out the assassin with the final shooting from that side.

The storm bolter from the left flank rhino was destroyed so it came down to the hatch firer’s attempts to take out the quad gun, but high toughness and a 3+ save means it’s too tough to take down.

The command squad shoot at the pinned tactical squad but I make all my saves. The predator shoots and does a hull point on the Vindicator. The strikes however, well they don’t fair to well in what happens next. Bolt pistol shots manage to take down one marine, then they get multi assaulted by the death star, a disordered charge was declared and Marneus crashes into the storm raven with glorious effect. I’ll spare you the gory details but let’s say that the strike squad tried to out in honor, but ended up being splattered all over the field by Strength 7 relic blades, the Storm raven explodes after being penetrated by a double fisting Marneus, the return damage, well Marneus takes a wound from the explosion (Huzzah!) They consolidate in to a nicely spread out formation.

My Turn 4
Ah yes, I pull the Grey knight tactical card of killing a unit when arriving from deep strike/teleport shunt or gate attack and guess who is coming in again this turn, you guessed it, Mr. Dread knight, I figure I would go for the command squad seeing as there wasn’t that many wounds in the group and figured I would be able to kill them…. I was so very wrong.

My Pinned group is no longer pinned so head over towards the captain and his lackeys. My Terminators move as far up as they can ready to try assault the death star. The vindicator sees a juicy target in the tactical squad in the center so rotates to get a good shot on them. Psychic phase has invisibility go off again, with no perils. I also get Sanctuary on the Dread knight off as well Shooting is Ok, I manage to wreck the left flank rhino and pop some shots off into them with the quad gun

The Techmarine repairs the Vindicator who then wrecks face and leaves four alive from the central tactical squad, the Terminators shoot into the honor guard and kill 2, leaving an 8” charge (including terrain) which they then fail to make, crud baskets.

On the right the two half tactical squads open up on the command squad hoping to take them down a few models. That doesn’t happen and I sense the Dread knight won’t be able to kill them all this turn, denying me another VP. True to form, the 3+ save and 5+ Feel no pain means that no wounds are done to the unit at all. What a tank!

LDP Turn 4
The left flank Tactical squad move further forward intent on taking down the quad gun,

The decimated central squad re-embark into the rhino which heads towards the scouts.

The death star see a great opportunity to smash face and head towards the terminators. LDP realizes his scouts are still in reserve so they arrive and come on in my back line right next to an objective he just pulled card wise.

Shooting doesn’t go that well, the left flank again fail to take down the quad gun, toughness 7 and a 3+ save is pretty good if you ask me.

The death star shoot at the terminators and fail to do anything due to invisibility. The scouts do something amazing, they roll really well for hits and wounds causing me to lose 2 marines, which then forces me to morale check, which I fail and run away from the objective, luckily I stay within 3” to contest. Then the pain hits. The death star crash into my terminators, challenges are issued Marneus calls out my grand master, never one to shy away from a challenge he steps up (VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have invisibility on a unit, REMEMBER you have invisibility on the unit, because if you forget, what happens next is the result) Both striking at the same time we roll our dice, Marneus hits 4 times (again forgetting I was invisible) I hit twice, both wound for me and all four wound for Marneus. I have a 4+ Invulnerable and so does Marneus, the downside, he has eternal warrior and can take a hit. I can’t, or should I say I couldn’t I fail one 4+ invulnerable and I get squished, from the Company champion + the sheer amount of attacks from relic blades I lose four terminators (again missing the fact I had invisibility on!) My return hitting is appalling and I only kill a single marine. I fail combat but morale is high.

My Turn 5
The Dread knight looms ever closer to the captain and so too the half tactical squad. My rear half tactical squad regroup and prepare to put some pain on the scouts. My Predator decided there is enough problems with the enemy predator and decide it needs to die soon, so stays still.

Psychic phase reveals the massive mistake regarding the close combat going on. As I roll again for invisibility, it goes off however, perils again (throwing 4 dice at it should have been fine) unluckily I roll the perils where I take a wound with no saves allowed and the librarian disappears. I manage to solo roll a sanctuary on the Dread knight again. Shooting as the immobile Vindicator repaired again by the Techmarine who then blasts at the rhino exploding it, was there ever going to be a different result?

My Predator and quad gun + Missile launcher shoots at LDP’s Predator and wreck it, thus ensuring my Vindicator lives to see another round.

The shooting from the Dread knight and half tactical squad only manage to take out one model, so happens it was the Apothecary, My Whirlwind and rear half tactical squad shoot at the scouts and do diddly, not a kill, those scouts are pretty badass if you ask me.

Assaults have the Dread knight and tactical squad charge into the command squad, and I bet you can guess how that goes for them. I’ll give you a hint. About as well as Marneus cutting through warm butter with his fist.

Back in the center, the Invisibility cloaked terminators manage to tank through another round only losing a single model, yet fail to do anything back to the honor guard.

LDP Turn 5
The scouts decide to hunker down and shoot at the tactical squad but they don’t do anything. The left flank tactical squad move a bit further forward however now everyone is in range, including a Grav Pistol!

The central tactical squad opt to stay in the wreckage but spread out in case the vindicator focuses on them again.

Shooting finally has the left flank tactical squad kill the quad gun, netting another VP. The central Squad shoot at the scouts but the saves are too good and nothing goes through.

Back to the central assault, finally enough sixes are rolled with power fists and thunder hammer to kill my terminators a valiant effort and would have gone differently had I remembered invisibility on the first round of combat. Killing a squad in combat nets another victory point for LDP as well as having the central objective as well. This frees up Marneus to chase after whomever he wants now….

My Turn 6
LDP managed to really catch up in Victory points last turn and I am quickly running out of options to stop this death star, I realize I still have a Dread knight and he’s no slouch, so decided to feed him to the death star if I can. My Vindicator reverses away and the Techmarine + Servitors opt to sacrifice themselves to stop Marneus for a turn at least.

Psychic phase has sanctuary go off on the Dread knight. Shooting has the honor guard lose two models to the combined shooting of the Vindicator (scattered and clipped one model) the Dread knight and the half tactical squad, the whirlwind finally steps up and blows 3 scouts apart, my plasma cannon attempts to shoot, fails, explodes killing himself, the unit has then suffered 25% causalities, fail their morale, and run off the board. My mind boggles at what just happened.

On my left flank the Predator wreaks havoc on the tactical squad forcing them to take a moral as well netting me another VP for a tactical card they run away back behind the rhino.

Assaults have the Dread knight fail his charge! This is not good, not good at all.

LDP Turn 6
The Honor Guard split off from Marneus who stomps over to the Dread knight, the scout move into the ruins to try and escape the whirlwind

The left flank squad rally and start heading for the objective that was drawn earlier, the fail their run by rolling a 2.

The honor guard figure that a small squad of servitors won’t last long and prove that theory right by wrecking them but leaving the vindicator alive, nothing of note happens with shooting. The big guys end up smashing each other with great abandon, but nothing actually happens, Marneus doesn’t lose any wounds, however my Dread knight gets wrecked hard, he ends up on one hit point and the combat doesn’t look good for me.

My Turn 7
The Vindicator moves back a fraction more, just ranging the Honor Guard. My half tactical squad move into assault range with Marneus, anything to take this hits from the Dread knight. My Predator remains stationary ready to focus on to the tactical squad. Psychic has Sanctuary go off on the Dread knight again, phew. Shooting leaves the scouts down to one man with another decent shot from the whirlwind. The Honor Guard get smashed by a direct hit from the vindicator, left out in the open they had no chance. On the left flank the scouts shoot into the 3 man tactical squad and take down two of them.

The predator shoots and kills two marines, including the sergeant!

Into the assault phase, the half tactical squad charge in hopefully adding to the weight of attacks, however it isn’t needed as the Dreadknight’s strength 10 attacks finally have Marneus battered into the ground.

LDP Turn 7
LDP looks at the board, looks at his tactical cards and says Good Game there isn’t anything left for me to go for, he has one scout, a single marine from one squad and four marines from the other left on the table.

Summary:
After tallying up the Victory point’s turns out the late game push of cards helped LDP to a very comfortable win 17 points to 11.
Things I could have done better, well putting the Dread knight close to squad when arriving was always a risky plan, one that didn’t pay off, twice. Forgetting invisibility on the terminators was a huge mistake, suiciding the interceptors was silly and I should have played them much more tactically. What would I have changed in the list? Well the whirlwind was very underwhelming and I suspect I would have had better spent the points on a dreadnaught, the Telion scouts with a Quad gun was something to be feared, if you were a flier which LDP didn’t take, so the points were a bit wasted there. The Dread knight was a boss as always and I am definitely considering taking two next game I have!
