Hey Sench! sorry i'm so damn late to the party I got pretty caught up in a little bit of life! I hate it when that happens and gets in the way of my Nerd time!

firstly! bravo! well done and awesome, I went back through from page 1 and I think you've got some seriously good greenstuff skills, everything is done really smoothly and not too ott for Nurgle either, your painting is actually pretty good as well, I don't know why you thought you needed advice! I can give you some hints that perhaps I would try but that's not saying anyhting about your work as I think it's already good!

with skin, if you want a bit of a focal point or point of difference find a section you can use to do do something a little different with, like perhaps translucent skin with veins showing through, or a wound that's heavily bruised around it's edges but not running bloody gore as the character has no discernable flowing blood, even blending the boils and pimples from a light white tip into a yellow, then a red angry sore before blending into the greens on the main skin?

another thing to do is use Google and at your discretion look at movie makeup for zombies and dead bodies from t.v shows, and study the actual colours used not how it looks as a whole, you'll see how things change from bloating, being submersed in water, shot, stabbed, burnt ect. and hopefully you'll be inspired enough to have a crack at it on your models!

that's all i can think of now, but I'm happy to answer any specific questions you have at any time dude!

@ alabamaheretic ~ thanks man. The win i had was really hard fought as was the draw. Basically, Plague marines dont go down to easily against enemy fire. Plus i was on a city fight table for the first game which enabled me to have cover in most every instance.

@ nerdfest09 ~ Thanks. I will check out some google images. I searched before but never thought to look for zombie images. Good idea. as for the blending, I get rushed a lot and that is most def something that i often overlook. Thanks again.

Having faced some more than once, Plague Marines don't go down easily. Period.
Charging them is also a nightmare, especially if your opponent gets lucky !

Once, with Belial & 2 Terminators, I charged a squad of 6 : plasma gunners finished off Belial's last wound (despite his 3++ save), then the poison weapons killed one Terminator... The last one killed one Marine, before going down in the following Assault phase... Those guyz are nasty !!

@ Yggdrasil ~ Dude. You changed your profile pic. That has been your pic for so long. I have to say that the plague marines did really well in melee. I have had the army for about four years but i have played it only about a dozen times..... facepalm. They do excell in melee given a non-assault based unit that they are facing.

@ largeblastmarker ~ Yeah, it felt good to put it to the eldar. However i have to say that my eldar foe was a really good sport and someone that i would love to play again. He mostly lost because he assaulted my PM in the middle of the board backed up by the black mace. Cost him his leader and a whole mess of warp spiders. However....my prize was an eldar leader. Makes me want to start an all prize eldar army.

Lol yeah, that avatar pic was from a model that I had painted for a Marine Swap... But I've never got my part of the deal...

And I've used the new one on my FB profile ever since GD France 2012, so I thought it'd be better if I coalesced all profiles !!

Well, they can also fare pretty well against melee-oriented units... Which it a good testament to their awesomeness !! And don't get me started on those dual meltas / plasmas uh

@ Yggdrasil ~ to bad about the marine swap going south. From the looks of it you invested a ton of work into that models paint scheme. Finalist in the golden daemon contest. I have to say, that is an awesome achievement. I just checked out the pics on your page.

Just a quick update so yall can see what i have been up too. I have been working on my Soulgrinder. The harvester cannon and both arms are a big hold up for me right now so i just figured that i would work at getting them on the path to completion. Not sure if i am going to do only one barrel or three for the harvester cannon. The whole thing is going to be installed into his arm so three will fill the stump nicely. I am also thinking that if i was to use only one, i could have a large wrap around ammo case on his forearm.
Thoughts

Also. Any and all with experience casting? Should i cast the gun barrel as a separate piece?

Thanks. Questions and comments are appreciated.

I think the three barrels look ace, but are too far from each other... I think if they just touched, it'd look better...

Thanks Yggdrasil. I will play around with that. Since they are bulky enough by themselves, i dont think that i will be needing a big ammo clip or any of that noise. I was going to have a huge cannon mounted on the other arm to simulate the Phlem upgrade, but i'm not sure i will go that route after all.

Ebay is way too addictive.
I just picked up a set of 30 cultists and 12 chaos space marines.
One of my buddies has been running cultists with the mark of Khorn on them. Initially i thought that marking cultists was a bad idea, however the extra attack on the charge does seem worthwhile. 80 attacks on the charge from a unit that costs about 110 pts is nothing to shake a stick at. I also now have a blob of 30 with autoguns and 3 stubbers. Way i see it, if i park them behind an aegis, they will make a great anchor for an objective with a lord thrown in to help keep them from running. Magnusthered once shot down and killed a demon prince of nurgle using one of these units. Admittedly he got lucky with his die rolls, but still. I lost a 240pt model to a unit way cheaper.

The chaos space marine legs are going to be used on one of two projects. I have a goal of 42 plague marines. Right now i have about half that assembled and painted. I also have been looking for something that will give me a little bit more hitting power in melee. I was thinking about building up some raptors with the mark of Khorn. They make a highly maneuverable strike force with lots of attacks. 40 str 5 attacks on the charge. cant beat that with a stick.

Todays goal is to continue work on the soul grinder of nurgle. I will post some WIP shots later.

Flamers are more amazing in cultist mobs due to the brutal overwatch they provide. Also if they have ccw's that's 110 attacks on the charge. that's 55 hits on meq, and about 19 wounds, and 6-7 dead. though i think mark of nurgle is better still.

Raptors are, unfortunately, a bit fragile from my experience. but the models are soooo cool. 20 hits on meq 13 wounds 3-4 dead. but melta's are fantastic on them.

Also, I can't wait to see how the soulgrinder turns out.

So, making good on my previous post, here are some WIP shots of my GUO. I am not so sure what i am going to name him but i am thinking Carrion
I need to wash it again with a darker green and then go over it with some lighter shades. So far i am pretty happy with how he is turning out. I plan on having it done in the next couple of days.

Turns out that all the mad work i did for the last gaming event that i participated in, I am going to have to replicate. There is going to be a chapter two coming up in a couple of weeks. This will mandate my finishing a few more projects so that i can field my soulgrinder and perhaps this GUO.

anyways.

Questions and comments are appreciated.

So just a quick WIP post. Carrion is coming along nicely. The game i am slated to be in next month requires a 1750 list so i am thinking about running him in place of Grolub the Herald of Nurgle. Carrion packs way more punch and in an objectives game he could be a great unit for tearing up the enemy close range.

I painted him with successive Glazes and layers of dry brush followed by a wash of devlan mud in some areas and a wash of baael red in others. He needs a couple hours more of painting but i think he will be done soon.

The soul grinder is being put on the first slot though to finish since that will make for a fair AA unit and a great back like support unit, especially if it has the Phlem upgrade so it can lob AP 3 shells at the enemy all day.

Questions and comments appreciated as always.

@ Yggdrasil ~ I did. Thats the arm from the city fight, daemon prince of nurgle. It was a pretty easy swap to get that Greenstuffed onto him. I like how he turned out. The right sword arm was cut and bent out so that its in a more dynamic pose, but i didnt do that. Some fellow in texas that i bought it off of did that work. Mighty nice job too if you ask me.

I have to submit a picture to the games organizer for my next upcoming game. 1750 being organized by magnusthered. He wants photos and the name of my warlord so i doctored up this pic of Morbus. Leader of the Mortise Apostate and undying follower and soul brother to Lord Grandfather Nurgle.

@Moltar ~ thanks man. I like how Carrion is coming along. However with this new 1750 that i have to sculpt and paint for, I am not going to be working on him for a while. The pic of Morbus was one that i submitted to the tourni organizer. He wanted pics of our lords so i figured it would be a good time to bust out a little enhanced reality.

@ Skalk ~ Thanks skalk. That defiler/soulgrinder is the one that i want to eventually cast and sell. Just the top half, marketed as a cyborg zombie or some such.

So i am in high gear again in an effort to get 1750 ready to play by the 19th. I think i dont have that much to do. My list is as follow....

Chaos Lord with Mark of Nurgle, Black Mace, Sigil of Corruption, Bike 170pts

7 Plague Marines, Champion with Powerfist, 2xMeltaguns 213pts
7 Plague Marines, Champion with Poweraxe Meltabomb, 2xPlasmaguns 218pts
7 Plague Marines, Champion with Powerfist Plasma Pistol, 2xPlasmaguns 238pts

3 Obliterators with Mark of Nurgle 228pts

3 Terminators, Mark of Nurgle, Power Maul, Power Axe combimelta, Chainfist combimelta 135pts

3 Bikes, Meltagun 98pts

Herald of Nurgle, Greater Locus of Fecundity, Lesser Reward 80pts

14 Plague Bearers, Plague Ridden with Lesser Reward 141pts
3 Nurgling Bases 45pts

Hey man, really nice work!

A whisper came through the warp that you were interested in advice on casting the top of your soul grinder.

As to the barrels, I would definitely recommend taking them off the arm for casting. It will save you silicon, and they will become bubble traps otherwise. Generally seems to be a good rule of thumb to limit the long, thin bits that are on larger blocks. As a plus, if they do tend to collect bubbles, you will only have to repour the small bits instead of the whole arm.

Let me know if you have other questions; I have all sorts of folksy wisdom about casting, and I totally owe Sersi for helping me out in the beginning. Pay it forward etc

I appreciate all the help you can give. I am a bit nervous about all this casting stuff. Could go well, could go poorly. ITs the kind of thing that you just have to launch into but a little advice from someone who knows goes a really long way.

RSJake and Galorn may be resources for method / equipment as well since they both cast and (especially Galorn) seem to have honed their craft to professional levels.

A bit of advice / caution / concern is to make sure the Cyborg Zombie is clearly without any similarity to or inspiration from any model that to another model of similar size that may be in production by another retailer. I imagine getting a C&D notice might ruin your day.

Thanks for the thoughts on this subject Skalk. Yes. My work will be quite unique. I am working on this first to make production of my own nurgle soul grinders easier, and secondarily as a means of producing possible income. The conversion bit is proving to be a headache. I am not happy with the belly nor am i really happy with how the anti-aircraft gun has turned out to date. This may only be the first of several iterations of this model that i produce.

Last night i ordered some fine texture milliput so that i can hopefully up my sculpting ability. Also on order are some new custom jump packs, magnets and more army painter primer so i can get a quick start on painting up all the figs that i need to finish so i can compete in the next game.

I have too...
Sculpt and paint a Nurgle Lord on Bike
Paint 3 Nurgle Bikers
Paint 1 Plague Marine
Paint 2 Terminator with the mark of Nurgle
Paint 3 Nurgling Bases
Finish sculpting and painting the Nurgle soul grinder.

To date this is how the soul grinder looks.

I took your advice. I am going to have to shave down the bottom part of his arm in order to get the gun bitz closer together, but for now that is as close together as i can make them. I appreciate the feedback on this. Being under the gun to have it completed and painted by the 19th is a bit of pressure for me. I think i can do it though.

Been doing some work. Finished up these 3 Nurgling bases, to at least a table top standard. I dont like how shiney they look so i will probably go over them with a light layer of dry brush so that they dont look the way they do.
I have also spent some time working on two terminators. They are approaching at least base coated. They need all sorts of work to bring them up to a tabletop level but i would say that they are close to half way done. When i get them a bit closer i will post some shots of them. But for now... I have these pics of these nurglings.

I have only used them a couple of times. Once they took down a unit of oblits. That was with the old Epidemius rules. THis game i plan on just using them to hide out and be a constant thorn in the Eldar's side. Space marines without a powerfist can have issues dislodging them too.

Soon to come, Terminators.
