I loves the ork with the shield, it is ace.

The vampire is looking good, I like his rusting sword. The chain mail is brilliant....any pointers you can give me for how you did it would be appreciated. What are you planning on using for the warbands dregs and necromancer?

All this time waiting and this is the best you can do ………….

Only kidding the Orks are great love the pose of the nob with blast bouncer ( the riot shield ) great use of parts love the bolts that you have added to the door as well

The Vampire is a dramatic looking character with a nice assortment of weapons, the chainmail has turned out looking pretty dam well if you ask me and yes a real pain in the arse to do

Glad to see you back mate and creating interesting stuff once more, just stay away from that Xbox

Vampire is excellent, your GS skill is enviable. Ork Nob takes the win from this update though. That's just awesome. I really like it a lot. Good job, looking forward to seeing paint on it.

@ MrMerlin - Thanks mate, glad you like 'em, you def know ya orks!

@ PDH - Cheers mate!

Necromancer will be corpse cart driver reworked.

Dregs, I'll be making a few varients (time and money permitting of course)

"Foot Dregs" I had the idea of using Skaven Plague Monks but scale was all wrong so it'll have to be Flagellants reworked (bit lazy but will look good). "Dreg Knights" from VC Black Knights kit and "Armored Foot Dregs" from the VC Wight Lord.

Right...for the chainmail I rolled out and roughly cut a strip of GS, doesn't need to be neat. I made some large holes/tears in it in a couple of places, not too OTT. I stuck it on to the model and tried to roughly follow the flow of the under garment. Next I used a pin to poke holes down it in rows, making sure to try and have them interlocking if you know what I mean. The very bottom hole in each row needs to be clearly rounded off as a 'link' and this also applies to those that border the 'tears' too to make it look like mail. I had to got back and re-poke some of the holes to make the mail look more 3D. The key here is uniformity where posible and I used the VC Wight Lord kit as a visual aid coz the mail on that guy is wonderful! This method worked for "ruined mail" coz its ment to look battleworn and damaged but it wouldn't be good enough for like prestine show piece armor. I dunno how you'd make that so neatly...Phew! Haha!

@ LDD - Thanx matey missed ya too! Haha yeah yeah I'll try, I'll try!

@ Skalk - Thank you, I didn't do lots with the Ork Nobs, they're pretty much bits I had left over from the box set but keeping them simple has paid off I think.

Sorry guys not an update but can any one help?

I'm looking for a good comparison shot of a mini with and without sealer or matt varnish.

I'm trying to understand more about how it effects the paint job...(I know 'what' it does but haven't 'seen' the difference clearly displayed before).

If anyone has a pic or a link lemme know ta!

Besides having no choice because you'll want it anyway for the protection, it's really difficult to tell as there are several factors that have an influence on the result.
Those factors are:
The product, always look for reliable reviews and test the handling and quality on some lesser model. Some products produce a rougher or milkier finish.
Such problems can also result from wrong application. Be supercareful with humidity and heat, especially spray varnish reacts harshly to them.
A thick layer of matte varnish normally ends up a satin milky one etc.

Ideally matte varnish will not affect the appearance of the paintjob at all, just take away the shine and most importantly protect.
Then again I recently put matte varnish on the black boots of a model by brush. I used the same varnish before, but this time it changed the whole effect of my careful blending and ended up looking like I've put a black wash on it and reduced my painstaking highlights a lot.

Thanks Baiyuan, yes I did read that on your blog...

I only game very casually TBH, protection is not a major issue for me, but I am interested in the way it may change the paint job...basically I've used some very shiney inks on models, and very happy with the results but I know if I spray them with sealer it'll kill that shine and I won't be able to get in back the same, even with gloss or re-application of the inks...I'm trying to work out if its still worth doing to improve the rest of the mini for the sake of loosing that look or just to leave them alone.

Hi all!

Currently doing another Ebay run as I'm skint...so dug out a few old minis I painted in my mid teens for a quick retouch before selling on. I thought I'd snap a quick shot with my Iphone of them next to my zombies just to see what the differences were over the years...

I think I was about 16 with these, some of the last I did before having a break. Druthu even got into my local shops display window for a few months.
Under the bases it says GW C1991 and C1995 but theres no-way I was 8/12 haha.

I quickly added the turquise bits to the wraith at a later date to make it fit the more current VC trend.

I remember my very first lead SM capter was called "Space Zebras" haha how dumb! They were skullwhite, crudly striped with some chaos black and had blood red eyes and power weapons and looked rubbish TBH! I wish I still had some around for a laugh...I re-painted them a few years later to BAs and then they were forever lost to the ravages of time.

HAH never heard of space zebras! Are they descendants of the space sharks? Man, now I can picture a whole zoo full of animal marines! Space penguins! Oh wait those are called black templars...
I was around 14 when I started painting tt miniatures, but had a history of military models before. My first chapter was a DA descendant called "venatori... something", black armor, DA green helmets and weapons. You can find some pics of em in my gallery. http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-39364-21999_Sweet%20Sixteen!.html

Haha yeah Baiyuan like a bad cos-play convention ...Even back then I thought the name was pretty stupid, I should have called them "White Tigers" or such...I might resurect them next time I buy some SM bits, but have enough projects TBH.

Same here, every now and then I think I'd like to work on some SM again, but I've got so many more interesting projects and not even enough time for those.
I've ordered a bunch of the DV cultists and one set of the CSM too (just for the stunning sculpts), so maybe I'll get around to paint one up some time. I became a massive NL fan while reading the books about them and I already considered slipping one into the background of our necromunda campaign...

Inq. Update!

Yo! So as I'm killing time ATM waiting to build some Infinity stuff, I thought I'd clear a few minis off my desk...I always wanted to make some Inq28 Anti-Hero's, which was Dante's lot, but also some straight-up Good Guys for him to have a run-in with at some stage. I've had the parts for a while now but not the motivation but finally got around to gluing and GS some together.

So the theme for this lot is that classic image of the mediaval knight and his retuine, almost Bretonnian...but in 40k. I always think of this clip whenever a 'knight' is mentioned and a little of this silliness is in there for sure
Spoiler:

There will be 4 of them in total: The Knight, The Scribe, The Squire & The Fool.

And with that I give you the first new character; The Squire - "Bastion Beasley"

Ignore the base. Still a few details to smooth-out here. GS on his helmet-pipe, a few p.seals and some extra SM equipment needs to be added to his 'pack'. I like the idea of this poor bugger being an IG Vet. down on his luck but upon witnessing the glory of 'the quest' pass through some dead-end settlement, he flung himself at the Knights feet and begged to serve the Emporer once again. In return he got the honour of having his spine reinforced and all that gear on his back! Haha!

I was thinking about having a rule which lets you re-roll one failed ammo or armor roll once per game if Beasley is within 6 inchs to represent him rummaging through all that junk and quickly throwing over a new mag etc but due to its massive weight he can never run or climb and is at -1 for CC...something like that?

So there ya go guys and as usual all comments/crits welcome...

Cool, though quite a comical looking fellow. He also looks a bit fantasy battle, perhaps you could add some sort of iconic 40k element to drag him out of the past? Something like a bionic eye or servo skull.

As for his special rule, how about he counts as a weapon reload if he is within 6 inches (once per game) but also counts as encumbered. Not being able to run or climb ladders is a pretty huge penalty, you could maybe say it counted as a leg wound (-1 MV). It would be OK as long as you don't just constantly use it as a cheap way to reload an expensive weapon.

The Squire is brilliant and his comical look works a treat for me....reminds me of the secondary characters in a lot of 40k artwork. Burdened through faith.

The backpack is great as and I'm not sure how much more stuff he can carry before it becomes too big.

His puny legs for some reason balance out the hugeness of the pack..I hope they have been reinforced too. Are they Zombie legs?

I really like him and hope you find some time to paint him soon.

Great I will call him Baldrick he needs a turnip though LOL

Maybe add some kind of kneepad just to give the guy a chance, that load is overbearing if he falls he will graze his knees

Cheers Brut. Yes I feel the same. He's pretty much all WHFB with a shotgun ATM. I think when there's some more SM gear on his pack and a few p.seals it'll look more 40k. May add some more tech to his helmet...like optics or antenee but can't give him bionic eye as another character from the 4 has that and don't wanna repeat it.

PDH wrote:His puny legs for some reason balance out the hugeness of the pack..I hope they have been reinforced too. Are they Zombie legs?

Haha thanks mate, yes zombie. Yeah physically there's no way his legs would be that skinny but thought it was funny, maybe he's like Wolverine from the waist down...oh errr.
Yeah I know I will get back on the painting soon...maybe have a crack at the Scavvies. I remember you mentioning baggage slaves, I'd be interested to see what you make for them...

Nothing too fancy when it comes to baggage slaves they will just be the lowest in the pecking order and count as juves. In game and model wise they wont be weighed down with baggage....i would like to use skaven as a base with flag heads.
