Thanks for your kind words, people!

I did some final detail work on Huntmaster Deracin, and I believe he is ready for painting now. Take a look:

The main changes were to the model's back, though:

I added some cabling to the claw arm. The main addition is the aforementioned "chain cape", dangling from his backpack and obscuring the "chainmail ass" Igandris pointed out

So, let's hope that when we next see this guy, he'll have some paint on him. Until then, C&C always welcome!

I still think that the servo arms holding the weapons are slightly to thin. The added cables offset that a little so why not add another one running along the thinner arm parts to get them more bulk? Tentacle maker, guitar wire or just some smooth isolated cables would work there.

Other than that he really look awesome. And i like the chains on his backpack. Are those from the vehicle upgrade sprue? Becuase i'm thinking on stealing the idea.

Thanks for the positive feedback, people! I am indeed rather taken with Deracin at the moment, if I do say so myself!

@ btldoomhammer: Cheers, mate! Since I don't have a reliable way of shaping cables from GS, and since I really don't fancy touching that backpack again (yes, it was that fiddly to convert ), I guess I'll just leave it that way. There's a very real danger of having the whole model look too busy and bulky (Deracin is already huge, even taller than Lord Captain Lorimar), so enough is enough

The chains are mainly from the Bloodcrushers, btw, with a chain from the Chaos Marauder flails thrown in. Using the fantastic chain cape from the Chaos Lord on manticore would have been the best option, but I already used that one on a different model, so I had to improvise.

I would really love to get some paint on both Deracin and the Decimator/Dreadknight, but the temperature outside makes painting impossible In order not to feel completely useless, though, I've been lazily messing around with a couple of bitz.

One of the things I've been doing is to take another look at my ongoing project of building a squad of World Eaters Havocs - or "Teeth of Khorne", as it were. My plan for these guys is that I'll try to build them mainly from leftovers.

Here's an early WIP of a first test model, using one of the metal Havoc Autocannons:

The weapon isn't all that great, if you ask me, so my plan is to build some more autocannons from plastic parts. The head is pretty cool, at least -- a conversion that was given to me by Biohazard (cheers, buddy! ).

Here's another test model, with an autocannon kitbashed from different bitz:

And here are both models together:

These guys may lack the flashiness of my latest conversions, but they're the best I can come up with in this weather

C&C always welcome!

Hmm. The arms look too big on the Berzerker bodies. Probably 'cause the Berzerker models are so damn old, but it looks a bit awkward.

Hmm, it may look strange because I didn't pay attention (after all, the arms are just tacked on for now), but the parts themselves are not to blame: The berzerker bodies and legs are 100% the same size as those of the regular CSM, so they should be compatible enough

I also experimented with some new Traitor Guard models, trying to slightly emulate the fantastic look of PDH's traitor soldiers :

The model uses Marauder legs, a FW enforcer torso, a chaos cultist head and some scout arms. Not nearly finished, of course, but this guy may end up leading a squad of elite traitor troopers. Here are the humnle beginnings of he squad, using some FW torsos kindly sponsored by PDH (thanks, mate!):

On a somewhat related note, I think I deserve a medal for managing to separate this FW head and torso with minimal damage to either:

The head will be used on a Heretek, taking inspiration from Bruticus' fantastic rogue genetor. The torso will most likely see use in the aforementioned traitor squad.

So yeah, that's the kind of hobby work I am relegated to until the temperature drops slightly

Cheers, people!

@ lone dirty dog: I did quite a few head swaps on my DV cultists to add some variety, so having a few heads lying around was a very happy coincidence in this case

@ Miss Dee: Hmm, since I play my World Eaters using the regular Chaos dex, there's no way to use scouts. So these troopers will probably end up in my allied detachment of traitor guard and be used as stormtroopers (or regular traitor soldiers). That said, I may actually use some more scout parts for the models, in order to bulk them out a little and make them look more like the elite part of the traitor force.

Right, another smallish update: I picked up a used Aegis Defense Line from cousin Andy quite a while ago, and seeing how these fortifications can become rather useful in the game, I began to convert the parts to make them fit the overall look of my army. So far, I have been mostly experimenting with a couple of bitz and have built some “proof of concept” pieces, yet I believe I may be on the right track:

Some of the armour plates from the chaos vehicle kits are a perfect fit for the Aegis Defense Line. All the aquilas will have to be shaved off (which is quite a bit of work) or covered with bitz, though. The Hydra Flak Cannon was in a pretty sorry state when I got the kit, so I mainly contented myself with cleaning it up and adding a spiky bit here and there (as well as a brass icon of Khorne at the base of the weapon).

For the rest of the pieces, I have begun to add some details and trophies:

Well, I think we can all agree that this thing “NEEDS MOAR SKULLZ!”

I also experimented with adding a Space Marine torso, impaled on the front of the wall.

Getting the fortification completely sorted out will be quite a bit more work, but it’s a fun little kitbashing project that can keep me occupied when other activities are not an option.

In other news, Huntmaster Deracin has been disassembled into several sub-assemblies. All the parts have been cleaned (to get rid of all the modelling putty and any grime that may have built up). A base has also been constructed. And all of the parts are now awaiting undercoating and then - finally - painting. Here's the sub-assemblies, laid out to dry:

I am rather stoked for finally getting this guy painted, so let's hope it happens soon!

@ Biohazard: Great idea, buddy. But alas, where to get so many ribcages?

In other news, it has begun:

A PIP of Huntmaster Deracin with just the base colours and a first coat of washes. And shortly afterwards:

The lighting on these last pictures is substantially worse, though, so you'll just have to take my word for it: The body is mostly finished at this point. The bad news is that it's crazy hot again, so I'll have to continue painting this guy after dark. Let's see how that turns out...

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat570033a&prodId=prod1210014a

And maybe add some zombie parts in the mix as well:
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat720004a&prodId=prod1050054

or maybe chop those up:

http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones/latest/77017
http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Bones/latest/77018
Athough they might not have the right scale. But i think if you just pile them together with other bitz and cut up zombies there won't be a problem.

And Huntmaster Deracin looks really promicing. I can't wait to see him with his backpack painted as well.

Ah, well, it was a bit of a rhetorical question, to be honest: While I like spending huge amounts of money on plastic crack as well as the next guy, I have always felt reluctant to buy lots and lots of undead kits just for "decoration", as it were. That said, the corpse cart kit may be an interesting option. Hmmm...

While it's 36 degrees Celsius outside, I keep plugging away on Deracin. And I believe we are getting there:

Next up, his backpack. It's so huge and complex that it's really a model of its own

Anyway, C&C always welcome!

Mantic would probably be a better bet than GW for cheap Undead. Also maybe some badly assembled ebay bodge lots might be a good source. Deraci really looks like an ornate twisted chaos technician the type of mind who'd come up with a Doomblaster.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass.
