Thanks a lot, guys!

@ ZergSmasher: The body is the lower body of a WFB Dragon Ogre. I just added the neck portion from the plastic Daemon Prince and filled the holes with GS. A rather easy conversion really.

Cheers, mate! I am definitely still considering it!

In the meantime, here's an update regarding my Call of Chaos vow: I won't be able to do any painting until next weekend, which is why I at least wanted to start painting my second Call of Chaos model, the Iron Warriors Apothecary. The guy still needs some more attention, but here's what he looks like right now:

As always, let me know what you think!

I'm not up on all the legion color schemes, but it feels wrong to have an apothecary without any white. Not that he looks bad, but just feels more like a techmarine.

Wow! I didn't think the IW even used apothecaries, being the "man up and walk it off" types themselves. But all in all, well done! Those hazard stripes are crisp!

Yeah the IW apothecary looks wicked, the hazard stripes on the narthecium looks brilliant.

Well done on the hazard stripes, always a hard technique to do on smaller models.

Thanks a lot, guys!

@ Nevelon: I have to admit that the thought of including white in the colour scheme never even occured to me in the first place (both here and on my World Eaters Apothecary, for that matter). As I see it, Apothecaries are probably a rare commodity for the Traitor Legions, and I don't really see them as paying much attention to the old symbols and colours of their trade for the most part. Well, that and I didn't want to "dilute" the sweet IW colour scheme

@ JustaerinAtTheWall: Cheers, mate! As I mentioned above, I do think apothecaries are pretty rare in the traitor legions, but the plan with this killteam was to explore several character archetypes, and seeing how the 40k Iron Warriors have a history of stealing other legions' geneseed in order to use it in the creation of new Iron Warriors (see Storm of Iron), I thought this might be a nice and sinister twist on the usual Apothecary archetype...

@ evildrcheese, WarbossDakka & Heretic Tom: Cheers, guys!

While most of last week was spent on a short seaside vacation, I did manage to make some tweaks to the Apothecary, and the paintjob is about finished now (the base notwithstanding):

And here's my (very small) Iron Warriors collection so far:

Judging by the actual Killteam rules, the Terminator Lord in the back will be surplus to requirements, but he really was my proof of concept model to test the waters. Now the next step will be to finish the Apothecary’s (32mm) base and to rebase the two guys on the left on the new, bigger bases, while I am at it. And then I think I’ll ultimately return to this project and add another two or three members (two have already been built, check them out here ).

As always, let me know what you think!

Loving the glowing blue you've used as a spot colour - counteracts the darker tones of the armour, I like it

Just a little thing about changing to 32mm bases. The Apothecary's axe seems to go below his foot, and putting him on the 32mm base might require the moving of his arm. I don't know if you've noticed it or if you want the axe to be stuck in the ground, but I'll say it anyway.

Looking sweet.

That’s an easy fix with the right basing materials. Just put half an Ultramarine on either side.

I may have spent a little too much time painting filthy Xenos. Rotted my brain.

For every problem, there is an Ultramarine solution!

@ WarbossDakka: You do have a point about that axe -- although the model will be elevated on the base, so the axe should clear the floor in the end. I rather like the pose as is, so I don't think I'll be changing anything about the arm.

@ Nevelon: Rest easy, mate: The smurfs are safe for once The model is not only part of my Call of Chaos vow, but I also pledged it as part of an Iron Warriors centered event, and one of the requirements I have set for myself is that a fallen Imperial Fist (or parts of a fallen Imperial Fist) will be included on the base.

I dig the IW. Have you considered moving to the 32mm bases? I love them myself, gives the model more of a grounded/anchored presence and impression of proper scale vs regular (non astartes) infantry.

It's been a while, but here's the finished IW Apothecary at long last. I give you Apothecary Phastos of the Iron Warriors:

Now I wanted to include a little "special effect" on the base, both to support the model's narrative and because I had pledged this guy as a "trophied" model for an Iron Warriors-themed event over at The Bolter & Chainsword. So I placed a fallen Imperial Fist at Phastos's feet, trampled into the mud underfoot:

What's more, if you look really closely, you can see a telltale hole punched into the flex fitting covering the Astartes' throat: It's where Phastos has just used his Narthecium gauntlet to extract his fallen loyalist cousin's geneseed -- after all, the Iron Warriors have been known to use other legions' geneseed to create new legionaries:

In fact, that's why I wanted an Apothecary as one of my Killteam's archetypes in the first place!

In terms of my Call of Chaos vow, this means two down, three left to go. And I still have quite a bit of time. Wish me luck

Looks cool. I like the narrative with the geneseed.

One problem I have is the depth of the mud. At first glance, I thought it was just some armor plate on the ground. But the different angles shows it to be a whole marine sunk in there. "How deep is this mud?” is the next question that pops into my mind. They are not small guys, so this is going to be a foot deep of muck. But the Iron Warrior only has a little bit around his toes/ankles. I get that he might be standing on firmer ground now, but at some point in the fighting, he probably was knee deep in the mud. I might extend the mud up the legs a bit. It doesn’t have to be all fresh, maybe go with some lighter, dried stuff higher up.

But unless you just stepped out of the rhino, you should not be that clean on a battlefield that muddy.

(not to be critical, lovely model. Just my early morning ramblings)

Epic! Looks really nice, and the base is very well done. As always, your metals really stand out, awesome depth of shading. And those very well done blues really make the whole thing "pop."

I love the color scheme on that. The metals, blue, red and yellow all contrast very well, and the fact that most of the colours are limited to a certain area prevent them from overpowering the (relatively) monochrome look you've got going there.

I'm a bit of a fan of conversions, so let me guess and see if I'm correct.. is the cloth with the bone from an AOS flesheater courts sprue?

Cheers, guys!

@ Nevelon: I definitely see what you mean about the mud, but I just didn't like the idea of the biggest part of the model's legs being muddy brown, even if it would have been the more realistic option.Plus the lack of mud could hint at the fact that this guy wasn't actually the one to kill that Imperial Fist: He's just making the rounds afterwards, extracting the geneseed from the fallen warriors -- so maybe he did step right out of the Rhino after all

@ kakita: Haha, close, but not quite: That cloth is a bit from the Kroot kit.

So I made some time on the weekend and rebased the other Iron Warriors I have on 32mm. It's not something I would even consider for my entire World Eaters army, but for a Killteam with only a handful of models, it really makes sense and gives the bulky models a bit more room to breathe, if you ask me:

I briefly considered leaving the guy on the left on his original base, seeing how he was just an early tester and will never be anything more, but in the end, it was only one more base, and I did go through the trouble of touching up the hazard stripes and decals on him when I painted the first "new" Iron Warriors last year, so it would have felt kinda wishy washy to stop there

The champ really profits from the added breathing space, though:

While I was at it, I also snapped some new pictures of Warsmith Greimolt Sturm:

So yeah, that's the whole (albeit small) IV Legion collection I own so far

Nice - the warsmith looks very convincing and I love the hammer. Your apothecary is great - I think the larger bases help as well, they make the killteam a little more imposing. Very cool stuff.
