I can’t see why they couldn’t include things like the TIE/d and the Assault Missileboat (aside from any licensing issues, which seem unlikely given they’ve got characters from TIE Fighter in the rules). The more fighters the better really.
And for the cheeky sod who suggested the Sun Crusher, yes, that would fit with the scale of the game... but I think that might be pushing it. Its special rule would be “Nutronium Armour – You take no damage of any kind regardless of source”.
My first multiplayer gaming experience was in X-Wing v. TIE Fighter: Balance of Power flying the B-Wing...and continuously doing wondrous things with that clunky bugger.
It holds a special place in my heart. I even have the squadron insignia and colors from the old geocities page saved somewhere...
I imagine we'll see the B-Wing and TIE Bomber in the second expansion wave - it just makes sense.
I wouldn't be surprised at an armed Lambda-class shuttle as one of the ships in that wave, but then I come up short on ideas for an equivalent Rebel ship to round out the wave with.

Wave 2 is : YT-1300, Firespray, A-Wing, Tie-Interceptor.
So earliest for a B-Wing would be Wave 3 and given the release-rhythm up until now I would suggest winter/spring transition for a likly date for wave 3.

That just made my day. IMO that is the way Star Wars should always go down. I also really enjoyed that animation style, I hope to see more.
Someone once told me this about Porsche Panameras:
"There are two Panamera's in my hood. Visual pepper spray. When Jesus was on the cross and cried out "Father, why have you forsaken me?" it wasn't because of the whole crucifixion, it was because he foresaw the design of the Porsche Panamera."

Second: Watching it gave me a very 80's saturday morning cartoon feel. I felt that it would sync up pretty well with the Galaxy Rangers. And it did fairly well when i hit play near simo. Galaxy Rangers first then Star Wars second
And thankfully I have been working enough recently for me to buy the complete set with extras for my friends and I
Sir Isaac Newton may be the deadliest son-of-a-bitch in space, but John von Neumann is the logistics officer that eats your problems and turns them into kit.
Interesting that they made the Bomber pilot female. Must be post-Endor.

yeah,
Just noticed that FFG have put out a X-wing FAQPublished 23 October 2012... in time for their 'World' Championship Weekend on the November 9th till 11th.
Mostly common sense stuff, but interesting to read.
They also have Tournament Rules PDF. It would seem that all games are all the same (no missions) at official tournaments...
Basically its Victory Points. Your remaining ships value vs the ememys (using equipment cards like missiles doesn't lower the points spent on the ship)...
Each table must
contain a 3’ by 3’ square play area with clearly delineated edges. Two opposite edges of the play area
should be labeled as player edges.
5. Each player selects three asteroid tokens from his core set. Then the players take turns placing
their chosen asteroid tokens into the play area, alternating after each token is placed. The player
with initiative places the first asteroid token. An asteroid token cannot be placed within Range 1–2
of any edge of the play area or within Range 1 of another asteroid token. Players continue until all
six asteroid tokens are placed.
6. Players place their ships in ascending order of pilot skill as per standard X-Wing rules.
Where can I get it? I need one for me and like 6 for my former roommate.

Does aerodynamics even matter in space? Or is there something
else going on here (other than rule of cool)
It's Star Wars, which has never really field a need to apologize for not being scientifically accurate. A few of the fight sequences from the original trilogy are taken almost shot-for-shot from WWII aircraft fight sequences, which explains why X-Wings and TIE fighters bank and make noise in space. Still a classic setting, just not one focused on being scientifically plausible.
Star Wars and Star Trek were both hooked on the cinematic movement, ships/fighters moving like they were in atmosphere. While this does look cool, to achieve it would require an extensive ssytem of thrusters or a gravity manipulation drive of some sort.
Physics is one of my favorite things from Babylon 5. There are several scenes where fighters would rotate on axis to fire at targets that were behind/beside them while still moving in the original direction of travel.

Partially, it works with small ships, but big ships can´t move as easily as little ones in space. Because of their huge mass sudden changes of direction would cause structural stress. You can see this in B5 when the big ships move. They don´t turn as easily as the fighters.
A good example is the above BSG video. At about 2.28 when the main aft-thrusters of the Hades are firing when it is flying a curve you can see how it fires each of them differently and thus steers into the curve. Would they have done this on the spot it would have torn the Hades appart simply because of its inertia and sheer mass.

Rather shamefully, I don't remember much of the story of B5 because I was very young when it aired but I did love the design of the Starfury and that larger bomber one(hammerhead maybe? I don't remember.) They did have some of the coolest space battle ever though, next to some of the new gen battlestar stuff. Actually now that I think about it, I've always had a thing for the more realistic space combat shows even as a wee young lad. There was another show I watched as a kid called Space above and beyond that I recall being fairly grounded in reality.(admittedly this is going off of old childhood memories.)
So even with the "advanced rules" this game is pretty freaking fun. My FLGS can't keep the starter or ships in stock, they keep flying off the shelves. Now I eagerly await new ships....I will have at least one of each.

Ive shown that to several people over the last couple months, and every one of them wants more. Wish someone from a TV channel would discover this and make it into a full TV show.

Not directly rrelated to the mini game, but Lucasfilm (and all subsiduries) have been purchased by Disney, and a new trilogy of movies will go into production soon for a 2015-2017-2019 release.
If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!
Organizers of Game Nights can run them as casual leagues, informal open-play events, competitive leagues, or as one-day tournaments.
Organizers have complete freedom when they schedule these events, and our Game Night Kits are meant to support their efforts.
The X-Wing Game Night Kit allows players to help decide the fate of the galaxy with each game they play.
As Imperials and Rebel forces collide, organizers can track their results on the kit’s game poster.
Then once the battles have subsided, participants receive their rewards.
The fourth quarter 2012 X-Wing Game Night Kit includes:
One game poster
One league play instruction sheet
Eight double-sided, oversized ship cards (Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker)
Two custom, acrylic range rulers (one Imperial, one Rebel)
I do want!

I've received my Halmark Imperial Lambda-class Shuttle - Hip Hip Hooray!
Lots of photos to show size. I've taken measurements and done the math to check scale. Check it out here!
I can't help but feel the Lambda class shuttle would be high up on the to do list for FFG. It should be usable by rebels and imperials... given RotJ. B-wing and Tie Bomber strike me as the other low hanging fruit. After thatthey can think about the EU stuff.
