I first encountered the word in an old Dragon mgazine article about dungeon design of all things (back in AD&D 1e days. Yeah, I'm a grognard.), then again in physics classes. I'm glad I was able to bring it to your attention. Always cool to stumble upon little nuggets of knowledge.

Other than the recent fluff I have been quiet over here for quite a while. Well, no more...

Good to see it primered in black!
I was referencing fluff from the Necron codex, the GK codex has that inquisitor, she has the grav pistol, a DE soul blade and the tesseract to trap opponents in. even a Monstrous creature can be caught this way.
Trazyn is a collection junky. He may give something he no longer needs in exchange for a coveted item for him to collect.

Yeah, that's a good "in" for the fluff. Camkierhi wrote:Primer pulls it all together, looking great.
Thanks. Hopefully my vision will become clearer with each layer of paint. Meph wrote:Oh, that Predador looks wicked. I'm eager to see it painted.
Thanks Meph, and welcome. I'm still concerned that the painting has to live up to the building... One step at a time and it will come together eventually. cormadepanda wrote:Proof of painting is relaxing.
Good good. It's nice to be finally ticking this off the "to do" list. Long way to go yet... Base green. I'm not expecting to go much lighter than this (although highlights and upper faces will be, if you know what I mean). Yes it is still a little streaky in places and I'm still finding spots that I missed with the black. This will be fixed in time. EDIT: although it looks darker in real life than the picture here (your monitors may vary). I'm still unsure of what will happen with the meeting points of the interior and exterior, so I'm allowing myself to be a little messy about those areas as they will be cleaned up when I decide if they will be light or dark. Once this has dried properly (which is where the streaks have been coming from), I will do the base layer(s) of the warpaint markings (a dark turquoise) and we will all get an idea of how this scheme will work. After that, I will start to use the smaller brushes and fill in and blend the colours towards their final shades... ...That's the plan anyway... Thanks.

Oh wow. Lots of comments. Thanks Chaps.
Let's see...
nerdfest09 wrote:Yeah man! that works like a charm :-) looks wickedly good with some paint now. The warpaint is just about perfect in its application.
Thanks Nerdy. I'm still honing in on the final war-paint shapes, but getting there.
Theophony wrote:Almost to good dr an agent of entropy. The lines are so nice.
Thanks. It's things like this where I like to show the madness and dual nature of The (Mad) Scientist in subtle ways. He is devoted/obsessed with entropy, as you say, and in breaking the "rampant" spread of order in the galaxy. In order (no pun intended) to do this he needs an efficient operation, as he only has a "relatively" small army with which to topple all the other races in the galaxy.
Otherwise, a truly chaotic army just wouldn't function. All machinery would be shunned as too ordered, even living beings are too ordered when you come to it. So, he tolerates a little order, in order to spread disorder... As I've said before, he doesn't want to completely destroy all order, just to balance the scales between order and chaos.
Also, being a scientist, he does like to have his equipment in good working order. So all vehicles, armour and equipment are repaired and maintained regularly. Their function may be chaotic, but his inventions work effectively... well the ones that make it out the lab do... He has time on his side, being practically immortal he can continue to work on an experiment or invention until it does what it's supposed to.
Does that answer the question? Probably not... in short; some order is required to efficiently produce disorder.
Plus needs a bumper sticker saying "I broke for Chaos" I'll think about something along those lines.

inmygravenimage wrote:By scabs I mean crusty rust that could almost be organic. Nice camo, too.
Oh, I see. There won't be much rust, as I rambled about above; The Scientist likes to maintain his equipment. But there will be chips in the paint, etc... due to the nature of how this tank works (you don't run through a forest and a concrete wall without damaging the paint...).
Thanks.
MagosBiff90 wrote:I love this beast! Details on every surface and a real level of character! Got to admit... when you see the first coat of paint over a scratchbuilt / kitbash.... its awesome... really brings it together! Top work!
Thanks. Yep, it brings what you have in your head into reality, for all to see.
Red Harvest wrote:Aww, no chips, no rust... A good Scientist will keep his equipment in good working order.
Exactly.
No airbrush?
No. Well, I have a broken one. But it is only an external mix one that ran off of cans. I will get a new one, one day. Can't afford it at the moment. I've done much larger models by brush before, so it's no major problem.
Looks like a promising start. Won't say it's about time, no. No I won't.
Thanks. I'm glad that you won't...
Right, so I've tidied up the shapes and I've done the turret to match:
Now to work on the colours and shading... Automatically Appended Next Post: Thanks Solar. The aim is to make the blue more turquoise-like. But will remain (hopefully) a similar dark shade. The final effect will be to break up the shape of the tank, but also to almost merge together (or to stand out) under the right lighting, just to really confuse the opposition.
I'm going to try some experiments first as I have to mix the turquoise anyway (don't have a pot), so I'll find the right shade... or if the blue works better, I'll stick with that.

Right, so the turquoise didn't quite turn out as turquoise-y as I was aiming for, but I was only getting dirty green or pale blue-grey with most of my mixtures.
This is the colour I've ended up with anyway. There is some subtle shading on the ... we'll call it blue ... if you look closely (the lines should be slightly darker in the middle). This may become enhanced later in the painting process. Also, highlights will be done later too.
Next job will be to do the same with the green (although probably not quite so subtle with the shading). This will also sharpen up some of the lines that have spread a little in painting the blue (not to mention the occasional blue fingerprint...).
What do we think of the colour choice?

I've gone one better and added it to my blog link banner. cormadepanda wrote:Currently everything is looking flat dr. Let me know how it progresses.
Hopefully it will look less flat as I progress. On that note, I've spent hours wet-blending the green areas and even though one of the paint mixes was nearly black and the other a lighter green than the base green... it's still ended up too subtle... Try and spot anything that shows that I've spent hours on this tank since last time. It should, at least, look neater... The shading will be brought out more with some dry-brushing (as I know I can make that work and doesn't take hours). Then I will be able to move on to the details... after the metals...
