Hi Hi,

At the risk of starting a somewhat dodgy grounded idea atleast in ethics if not rules.

Chaos Spawn upgraded with Mark of Tzeentch

Mad Dok Grotsnik, his special rule;

Da Big Dok: any model in an army including grotsnik may upgrade its members to have cybork bodies for x points a model.

Cybork bodies confers a 5++ to the model which with the MoT gives it a 4++..

Despite not being Blood Buddies, no mention goes to friendly the only key word is 'army' and allied and primary detachments are the same armies.

Secondly the FAQ for Da Big Dok:
Q. How many units in an army with Mad Dok Grotsnik can be
upgraded to have cybork bodies? Are there any restrictions (apart from
non-vehicle) or can it even be Gretchin or Independent Characters?
(p59)
A. Any number of units can be upgraded. This includes
Gretchin and Independent Characters (except for unique
characters), effectively giving them a 5 pt discount on the
cybork body upgrade

It asks if there are any restrictions and there aren't.. this seems to me that upgrading allied contingents is fair game.. thus allowing the somewhat ridiculous spawn with a 4++ save..

The real question is do you ally the Mad Doc into your marines or a few spawn into your Waaagh, I'm inclined to think the former is the better option as 15 4++ 3 wound T5 spawn running around to me is somewhat scary..

Yours,
The Real Cute-Hydra

That is curious indeed. Very curious. I will leave it up to more rules lawyer-y folks, but that is very interesting...

the doc does like to experiment...

Huh. Well, I'll be damned. I've got a whole bunch of Orks sitting in my back closet right now.

But seriously, GW forgot to change the rules. Looking over that FAQ, they still have that answer regarding Grotsnik boarding a vehicle to get to the enemy faster.

Try using Chaos Marines with the Mark of Tzeentch combined with Grotsnik.

Currently there is no FAQ on this, but it probably will be. Currently it's perfectly legal, but don't expect people to like it and don't expect it to last long.

That's my take on it too. If its not faq'ed, I can see in my head a very cool army of the doc's "experiments" in cyborkery. Power armored orkses with targeting optics (CSM, optics to explain the enhanced BS), cybork experiments gone wrong/grotesque creatures stitched together from the doc's failed "experiments" for spawn, a supa nob with cranial bits and gubbin's that the doc has under his control for a CSM lord... if i was a modeller, I would be inspired. I'm not an I'm already a little inspired!

Cybork is more useful the more points the model cost.

Cyborking cultists for example, is a very bad way to go.

But yeah, apparently you can cybork Chaos Spawn of Tzeentch.

OR you could, you know, cybork a Warpsmith...

I would not cybork mod up your spawn as this will likely be FAQed.
I would suggest that you get approval on this ruling from a TO before any tourney.
If you insist on playing that at your FLGS don't be shocked if your labeled TFG

Like he said, no one is stopping you but it's less than friendly so consider it ahead of time and if you do want to play that way i HIGHLY advise you discuss it with your enemy as well.

Wait, so this could be done to any unit, right? I mean, any combo, with the risk of being TFG and that stuff... interesting.

I don't really see this as TFG status. It's the same way that Pedro still allows Sternguard to score in a Blood Angel army. It's part of the rules. And if it's explained ahead of time should be an issue.

Remember, your not just paying 5pts for the upgrade, you're also paying 160pts for a weaker warboss with a claw that has to move toward the enemy and another troop choice. The cost can get prohibitive quick.

Granted a 5pt 5++ for your chaos characters is pretty funny.

Hi Hi,

I personally suggested the humble spawn as it allows you to get around the whole it has no save thing. But yes, it can be used for a lot of things, saving you 10pts on characters for example.

I don't expect GW to be too bothered about releasing a new FAQ a few months after the last one.. but we will see.

As for being TFG, it depends on your gaming group- as people pointed out it has weaknesses and to make real use you need to have an army that can utilise the doctor so probs using his FnP in a horde of orks at that point your playing close combat which is generally seen as weaker in 6th. *shrugs* In my gaming group people turned up with the Mephiston Delivery System and Double Lashes when they were floating around, so I don't really see a major issue with something like this. But equally I wouldn't turn up to my local GW and play a kid with a 15 spawn/doctor list.

It's just knowing your local metagame,

@cute-hydra

Exactly. At a tournament it shouldn't be an issue. At a fun local game just discuss it with your opponent and change your list as needed.

As I mentioned, check with your TO before you show up and expect to run spawn with a 5++ save before chaos marks.

Hmmm, think bigger.
What about tzeentch daemons with cybork?
The basic horror would have a 2++ lol.
Granted its 23 points, but its worth that.

Flamers with a 3++? even better.

Ku'gath with a 2++ T6, W6, FNP, he wont die.

I can have unending waves of conscripts with a +5 invuln for more points than a couple of landraiders! What could possible go wrong

Although in all seriousness if you went with IG, ogryn with cybork upgrades would probably be the beastliest thing. Kind of surprised that ogryn dont have that option already anyways. If only you could cybork tanks....

cybork doesnt improve the save, it just gives you a 5++. You can have multiple 5++ saves, they do not stack.

And it only stacks with MoT because that explicitly improves your invuln save, or gives you a 6+ if you don't have one.

Well it did the same thing last book too. Except it gave a 5+ invuln if you didn't have one instead of a 6+ like it does now.

You haven't had a chance to pick up a codex for CSM but you've only got 1k sons?
