It's been a while since I posted anything. The project isn't abandoned or anything but for the moment it's on the back burner until we move to the new compound in a couple months and I can set everything back up. I'll be going on holiday back to the States soon, and I'm packing everything in my room up ahead of time because we're moving right after I get back (or before, you never know with this company). After the incident, I got everything picked up and accounted for, more or less. I still need to repair Melvin, but that will probably be among the last things I do before the move. If I can, I'm gonna try to rig up a couple more LED-lit space marines for an art trade, but that might be pushing it.

One of the astonishingly stupid things I did that night was knock over my bits box, and the whole thing spilled everywhere. So if you were wondering how Ive spent some of my recent time, imagine sweeping the floor of your bedroom and trying to differentiate between clippings and scrap, and honest to goodness bits. It's been tedious, to say the least. Between that and two to three workouts a day, I haven't had much energy left for modeling.

One thing I have to say is that I'm very grateful for the support from you guys, even though it's just silly forum posts. In a place like this, that sort of thing actually cheers me up quite a bit.

HEYYYY welcome back boss, hope you get to enjoy your return to the states, even though its temporary, but I hope it cheers you up a bit more. I've been going back over the posts and finding new nuggets that I missed on the first round, can't wait to see what you come up with upon your return.

Also I feel your pain in regards to the bitz box, I was working on my Ork Warboss (Tau are on hold for now) and I spilled my tiny bitz box and had a hell of a time fixing it up, I hope you can get all your good bitz back.

Minor update, I guess. Actually, this is a total whine-fest so you can skip it if you don't want to read that crap.

Stressed out and pissed off at the hobby and the community that surrounds it. I was banned from Advanced Tau Tactica forums for no disclosed reason when I hadn't even posted there in a couple months, and the admins won't return my emails as to why. So, that sucks. But what sucks even more is that there are a sizable number of players in my local and state area who apparently just hate my guts. Ran across an article on BOLS, and apparently a guy who I had a major disagreement with a few years ago now writes for BOLS, which has given him a ridiculously tall soapbox on which to publicly trash me and call me out by name as a cheater and a liar. I've been reading an article on BOLS once or twice without knowing the author, and it'll get to some section about "that horrible douchey cheater in your local meta" and I'll be like, hold on who wrote this? And yep, it's that same guy, talking specifically about me. And of course you get shouted down by him and all his friends if you try to defend yourself in the comments section. Oh, and he also seems to run most of the big 40k events in a big chunk of Florida now, too. So, as far as I know, the entire local gaming community has been poisoned towards me in my absence, and this has left me completely disheartened and at this point I'm not even going to bring my Tau home with me. On the plus side, that means less packing. But it also means there aren't going to be any shots of them on the table or anything like that. I'm going to try and pound out these three LED space marines in the next couple of days working solo on the weekend, but after that I don't even know when I'll get back into the hobby. There's not much love left for it at this point.

Oh, and on top of all that loveliness, the company I work for has had some serious budget misappropriations and so all the funding for my branch is gone, meaning that we're being forced to move to an unfinished compound with no AC, probably no running water, no TV, limited electricity, and so far out into the desert that the internet won't even work because there are no towers in the area. That's gonna last like 6 months. Which means that even if I had this glorious renewal of my love for the hobby, I'm going to be in a hellhole with severely limited ability to actually do any work on it.

This is going to suck massive donkey balls.

Hopefully you don't go nuts in the sand, and gak, screw what other people have to say about the hobby and you. You enjoy working on the stuff, so keep doing it, get your army to DOPE levels of DOPENESS and bring that gak home and run it in a tournament setting and kick some asses. feth the naysayers and have some fun with what you've got.

Wow. That guy can go feth himself, quite honestly., I'd be honoured to play your Tau. You could throw the rulebook out the damn window and I wouldn't care. Not even the DV one, the full hardback $70000 thing, feth it, I don't care. Your stuff is amazing, that's all there is to it. Nuts to the guy on BOLS.

He's probably jealous that his army will never be as pimpin' and sexy as yours. If you can apply the term sexy to any plastic models, these are it.

I just discovered this thread today.

Let me say that it would be a crime against all that is awesome were you to abandon this project over what some douche on the inter webs says.

Your Tau army simultaneously makes me both want to work on my Tau army and give up on it, because it will never be as awesome as yours

Ouch, that’s rough man.

The internet has a fickle attention span. While he might have a soapbox today, it might be gone tomorrow. And a large number of people don’t post/read rumor sites. So don’t let one turkey get you down. One of the best ways to deal with slander like that is to show there is no truth to it. Play a pick up game, be a great guy, and if someone makes a connection between you and his raveings, he’s the one who looks bad.

And an army as awesome as yours need to be on the table.

But if you need a break from the hobby, take one. Just never, ever get rid of anything. Someday you will come back, and you will want all your stuff. Just pack it up and find a quiet corner for it.

Alternatively, return from the sands leading an army of the undead.

Damn, guys. I don't know what to say except thanks for all the encouragement. And thank you for putting up with my whiny bitch fests now and then in the furtherance of crazy tau models.

I've got most of the work done on the three marine models as far as prepping the pieces, now I just need to get the soldering done on the LEDs and I'll be ready to go. Of course, I haven't been able to find the right terminator parts in the giant pile that is currently my bits box, so I'm only half-building it before I fly out, and finishing it up in the US. I've been persuaded to bring my Tau home as well, so if there's anyone at all willing to play me in the Tampa area then I'll have a few shots of them on the table. Still not holding my breath, but at least I'll be able to say that I brought my A-game home with me.

@Kepora: If you were to ask about it, it might provide some useful answers but don't go standing up to the mods on my account. The mods over there are complete deutsch-bags, especially Bear, and have in the past threatened the banhammer when anyone spoke up on my behalf in a thread. Not sure what's so caustic about me that inspires abject hatred in some people, but apparently I'm very good at it.

@Sydney: I've actually got a friend going to Iraq now as a contractor to fight ISIS. He's going to try to collect four heads from ISIS fighters and strip them down to just skulls. Two will be made into skull pauldrons for his body armor, and the other two he's going to send to me to coat in some kind of resin and turn them into drinking goblets. It should be a very unique project if it eventually happens. Now that I think about it...I need a skull goblet bit for a crisis suit, and a piece of wire I can turn into a crazy straw.

...Huh.

You know, I feel as though I should be more disgusted by the whole "Skull-goblet" thing, but then I remember that such brutality is at once both how humanity rose to prominence, and, in a way, a tribute to those you've fought and killed- that you'll remember them, have a piece of those who joined you in combat, for all time.

Now, if it were something more crass, like making the skulls into truck balls or something, then I think I'd be properly disgusted. But trophies, especially of those who would, honestly, understand and reciprocate, doesn't feel that terrible. Strange.

On the projects front- I know exactly how it feels to just sort of, fall out of love with an army. That happened, sadly, with my Orks, about a year ago. I still have them, but I looked at everything I've built for them and realized it wasn't the full effort I could have put into it, and that, if I wanted to start something actually worth being proud of, I'd need to essentially restart- and I haven't been able to yet.

Mostly, I dealt with it by going to a different army- one that I haven't ever used in a game, and that I was less conflicted on- Tomb Kings. And I'm not trying to build towards a goal, or for other people's entertainment. I'm doing what I want to do, for myself, and doing it without rushing, without worrying about time limits or contests or deadlines- spending days on a single rank and file model so that it's incredibly detailed and well-put-together, and doing that for every one I want to do that for.

You're not in this for anyone else- and you're not in it for itself. You're in this for you. Don't worry about what others think, don't worry about whether you get to 'use' it or not, or how effective it is when you do- just make cool little models, and make them well.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

Oh, right. For stuff like this.

It's the same as it ever was, bossfearless. That you are an excellent modeler was never in doubt. But your personality repeatedly clashed with the administrative team -- and more to the point, the content of your posts continued to be juvenile and NSFW. Of all the admins, I was the saddest to see you go -- you're a vibrant and creative personality, an asset to any forum -- but I ultimately agreed with the decision to ban you. Comments like the above, about the gruesome collection of war trophies, only further convince me that banning you was the right choice.

I'm glad that you've found a supportive forum with more permissive rules. It's a joy to see your work... somewhere else.

I have a friend who occassionaly makes the most ridiculous, incensitive, charged, argument bait comments. When he does, I simply ignore them and carry on.

That space marine, and all of your lit projects are great. I have an idea how much patience it takes to plan, drill, insert wires, etc.. and I just can't do it.

The combined effect when you have your entire Tau force on the board is inspiring. The Dark paint scheme contrasting with the light effects is quite impressive.

VERY nice job, though it'd look better if the new 'coil' was higher up. Also, I've seen that head a few times and it's one of the few 'bare' heads I like; what kit is it from?

Made in sa
Bane Lord Tartar Sauce

Saudi Arabia

@Kepora: The head is from the most recent Tactical Squad box. Unfortunately, if the coil was any higher it would not be in a straight line with the barrel of the gun and the housing where the LED is concealed. There's a surprisingly confusing split level thing going on in the plasma cannon assembly, so that the rod kept winding up crooked as I tried to fit it in. The end result shown above is not just the existing coil section cut away, but a fairly deep trench dug into the gun's surface to let the rod sink in and get into a straight line. AND the gun barrel had most of the inside carved out because holy crap they did not want you to execute this mod when they designed that bit.

@Eliott: For what it's worth, you're the only member of the admin team over there whom I did not consider to be a raging douche-canoe. So you've got that going for you, which is good. By all means, stay and enjoy my uncensored work. There's lots of titties and even some alien poon tang, plus I think I just heard one of the gun drones whisper a racial slur.
