Subject: LoER Terrain Contest: Round 12: Wall me up, fence me in
DIDDe: Thats looking snazzy. where did you get the barbed wire from, Ive' been looking for some myself.
Gamesetc: You should definitely try building them, would you build the command console as part of it?
Iv'e begun to build the walls+little hut, probably for my Mordhiem scenery, which has been neglected for to long. I'm thinking a rather high wall, when finished, although its pretty time consuming to build up.
and the gateway for the walls

Worth a try GamesEtc, It'll be tricky to give it a "fence" look as it's just going to be posts spread out over a distance. The spacing will be important to give the feel of a barrier.
The opportunity to do a body laying on the ground, minus a head, is worth a try.
Interesting plan DiDDe.
Nice gate, Grag. Like the wood and the metal bits.
I'm currently thinking of a concrete fence (you know the ones with the fence posts and slabs of concrete slotted into them), broken bits, battle damage, the usual, and some graffiti that will likely be inspired by some I saw in Poland.
Will be a while before I can start though.

Looking good fellows! I really like the iron work on that wooden gate Grag.
Well I had a bit of time in the evenings over the last couple of days so I thought I'd rough out some ideas.
It was a toss up between making a massive exclusion wall like the one in palestine, 5-6 times human height slabs of prefab concrete with the odd observational tower but I think that that would feel out of scale on a table top. (It looks out of scale enough in the real world as it is). So I decided to go for a more prosaic rendered brick wall that I can litter with posters, graffiti and damage and whatnot.
The plan is to sculpt and paint up some expanded Styrofoam to look like brick then add actual plaster/gap-filler to it then weather and battle damage that up.
Here is a WIP.

well... we are not even that long into the new competition but already so many cool works have been shown here...
grag... that door looks very good!...the metal works on it ...I need to try that one day too!
at mekugi... looks like you too have carved some nice looking brickwork out of foam... me too ...yours looks very detailed... I like that...(although this will probably be a steep obstacle for my own entry to overcome...)
and didde...that looks like a huge project... I am looking forward to more updates on that!
speaking of...updates... well here is my first set of pics of proofs that I am working on my own entry...
carved foam, round corners have a cardboard centre, the roof of the wall sections will have a metal sheeting that will be covered in verdigris...
on the pics you can see, the whole structure is already wide and spacy enough to hold a rhino inside...as the title of the comp reads "walled me up/ fence me in..." I think the centre needs a fitting eye catcher...we´ll see about that...
Looking awesome Viktor!
What kind of foam are you using? It looks a bit finer than mine. I might have to hunt around for a better product than recycled packaging materials!
I also really like the scale of your bricks, I think mine are a bit off...I might end up redoing them, I have plenty of time but will see how they turn out.
Here are a couple of WIP's. I painted the bricks a brick colour, then painted in the mortar. After that I covered the external surfaces with a render (multipurpose filler)...The idea being that as that dries quite brittle it should crack and chip and flake away realistically (if I'm carefull).
The question I have now is what colour to paint the render in...I could go municipal grey or maybe something a bit brighter? The stark white of the filler is way too bright for my liking to leave it as is.

Jeez you guys are off to a flying start. Awesome stuff, lots of walls!
I need to get going, so got a bit of this..
Bit of buggering around with a knife and some milliput and this...
Couple washes ...
Then put a little paint on it tonight...
Might not actually use this, trying various different ideas out. Will be doing several bits to go with this anyways, but might go a different route for the comp.
Keep it coming guys these are such great competitions and this one is going to be epic I can feel it.

after some deliberation (and after seeing what Vic and Cam have done so far), i think i might need to rethink my approach to the project...mine seems more like junk pile in barricade form and not fences or walls...good thing i have plenty of time!
Drystone walls, chainlink fences, junk-pile barricades, natural rocky outcrops, polycarbonate riot barricades, ancient hedgerows, ruined fortifications, fallen aquaducts, broken airliners, stone formations, raised walkways, neon advertising hoardings, laser security systems, rows of packing crates, walls of flame, runic barriers.....all these things and more will be lost like tears in...err, sorry....all these things and more are perfectly acceptable....
Ok I'll enter this with something teeny and tiny......

Looking great Gawdam Sumbish. Those doors make for perfect barricade materials!
That Pink Floyd track always reminds me of being a kid on road trips...my folks were big hippies. I decided to go with a mid-toned green paint to cover the plaster. I've messed arround with cracking it and the process should turn out ok...So before I got too far having fun making bullet holes I knocked up an image for a poster and spammed it all over the place. Once their glue dries out I can get back into bullet hole damages and some graffiti's etc.
Here's a WIP Cheers

@ mekugi - thanks! it was kind of a pain to dremel them, but they turned out pretty okay, IMHO.
...which reminds me, i've got a lot of tags planned for these barricades, will have to try to throw your name in there, too...(also have a tkae of my own on the rattle cans you did for the last comp)...
and here i was hoping hk1x1 was going to skip this one, too...anything having to do with stones (i.e., WALLS) and i can't help but think well, at least there's always SECOND place...
in a way, though, i'm psyched to see what hk1x1 comes up with. the ruined shrine thing from a few contests ago was epic.

@ Sumbish, I reckon a rattle-squig would suit an orky graff artist hey.
@Kencotter, cheers! I reckon they look alright...If it wasn't infringing copyright I'd probably knock up a t-shirt with it...Maybe I could put faith underneath or repent or something.

Ahh, It's nice to be able to post these sorts of comments and not save them all up for when it's too late.
Liking what I'm seeing everywhere else.
Still not started on mine yet, and ideas are fluctuating...
