Try the Maelstrom's Edge website.

And yes the Mature Angel is a lovely miniature. I'm looking forward to getting my pair painted up at some point.

Jan wasn't a good one for me, 10 bases of epic units and a contemptor dreadnought.

For Feb however, since alot of people are going big, I've decided to shake it up a bit and get my knight lancer assembled and magnetised.
So that's now done and ready for paint.
Since I don't own an airbrush this will take some time but I'll put pics up when instart making some progress

I feel for you on the lack of airbrush there Jackal.

I don't own one either, but I figure I'll circumvent that by doing all the base color with one of those color primers and just going from there.

I don't mind doing large swaths of color with brush. I just don't want to do the WHOLE. DAMN. THING with one.

I have always wondered about going down the airbrush route. But I having been using a regular brush for so long now I think I have become too old fashioned to change. I will leave these new fan dangled contraptions to you young 'uns.

I broke my double-action airbrush when I tried to teach myself to use it. Not even in a rage(!) Some paint dried on the tip, then it jammed, so when I very carefully tried to clean it, even laying out the parts and taking a photograph... well it went back together but never really worked properly after that, and one of the springs seemed not to work anymore. Honestly, cleaning them is painful and using an airbrush for anything less than a squad at a time seems like an awful lot of work to save yourself some work. Certainly when I watch a youtube vid of someone like Les painting a single marine with an airbrush, I'm impressed, but wonder if I would ever have the interest to clean the brush, change colours, then clean again just to paint some SM eye lenses... Well, I don't wonder. I know the answer.

I've still got a single-action one that I break out every now and then to work on terrain, and I guess I'd be willing to use that for huge things like Knight carapace, or perhaps large mono-colour things like vehicles.

This entirely counts - remember, it's about getting stuff finished! Which can include but doesn't need to include start-to-finished. Both of my own Jan ones were getting things finished, and it looks like I might get another two units finished this weekend simply by virtue of having finally received the last two missing figures/leaders from GW and having painted those!

Airbrush is awesome, I was getting to the point where I'd use it for little spot things on regular 28mm models but ehh. Like has been said, cleaning them is a bear. And expensive replacement parts. And a fair amount of set-up/tear-down time. I usually stick to the brush these days because my workspace is so cluttered but I'm looking into getting a small desk and moving some of my nastier hobby practices (airbrush, stinky lacquer, mass assembly sessions) out to the shed.

If I had more time to sit down and use the airbrush, and I was sure that I wouldn't have to toss everything down and run off to placate a screaming baby... I'd be more inclined to use mine.

Did I mention what I was doing this month? Trolls and Snotlings. Stretch goals.. uhh... do those have to be related to the themed project? If they are then whichever I do second is the stretch If not, I plan to start working on the Mars Attacks redbrick scenery.

Had the same issue with my first airbrush lol.
Since then I've grumbled and ignored them.

Sprayed the beast brown first as I'm going for a slightly worn look and slowly painting away the silver, which is around 90% of the lancer.

Only issue thus far is my bloody paint brush keeps attracting the ton of magnets I've used.
So the shield, lance, head etc randomly stick to my brush.

Got a list up already of my Feb goals, but here's a pic of at least part of it. The Tyranids are already started, and here I have all the guard bar 3 more autocannon teams that aren't built, plus Goreshade the Bastard and Deathwalker. Should have the Guard primed by Wednesday, and hopefully the Termagaunts and Genestealers as well.

One day I'll do a course or something. Possibly.
Trolls and Snotlings both fit into Orcs & Goblins, so yep, whatever gets finished first is the main thing and anything else is the stretch.

Well, people initially posted what they plan to paint for the 6-month period, so there's no obligation to post "pre" photos or anything. You're certainly welcome to if you like to post pics or a list, but there's no obligation to do so. I had to change my Gondor goal at the last minute in order to make sure I got something done, so either way or cool.

My current plan is to finish the last leader models to complete two units of Black Numenorians, which will be used as "counts-as" Soul Reaver (Vampiric) Infantry in Marouda's KoW Undead army. I also hope to start->finish a regiment of Warriors of Minas Tirith and/or finish one unit of Knights of Minas Tirith for the Gondor contingent. I'll also be painting some DS scenery and Minotaurs Space Marines, but they won't count as part of the challenge.

TP^DC - I hope MEdge doesn't use TLOS for your sake!

I got out of the one trial I was balloted into, and they didn't need us back for another day in the Pool, so my Jury Duty is over after one day. Now I get to go out of town for three days/two nights for work starting Monday. Hoo-fething-ray.

Based purely on TP^DC Deputy Manager's WIP photos, I pre-ordered one of those giant angels, with a couple of terrain sprues to pad out the box. My pledge to not by any more models this year is now officially a bust.

All this talk about airbrushes reminds me that I actually bought one (along with a compressor) for myself for Xmas a couple of years ago. It has been sitting, unopened, in the shed ever since I realized how much work airbrushes are. Maybe I'll break it out this summer.

Now showing Catachan Jungle Fighters and World War zombies!

Painting total as of 30th November 2025: 136 plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

I do have a badger Krome sat here, but reluctant to use it yet.
Had nothing but issues thus far with airbrushes so I wanna get a cheap one to get used to.

Silver is nearly painted on the knight lancer though.
And for giggles, I've assembled the knight castigator too.
Won't be able to paint both this month, and with my current working hours, even the lancer will be a struggle.

But its pointless setting myself easy goals.

Looking forwad to the burrows and badgers Barzam. I love anthropomorphic woodland animals with weapons...

Right so here is my single pic of january's finished stuff:

This month is samurai! They are nearly finished, but need back banners painting and a better photo taking... this one is a bit indistinct:

Keeping the theme of five man sprues, next goal is the frostgrave cultist sprue which I have assembled thusly:

I may take a while on them as I have commissions to prioritize.

I've added Warboss to the OP, since Jan was a short month and I said upfront that people could use Feb as their first month. I'm "closing" the addition of any more participants, though - to prevent it getting too unwieldy to keep updated. There's always July-December, though!

I've painted two models (that I was waiting on for months from GW) that allow me to complete two units for the Undead army. Photos tomorrow. Regardless, I'll try for some "stretch goals" since two models isn't much. I'll try to clean up some skeletons this weekend if I have a chance. I'm keeping the Gondor cavalry aside for the moment and getting some gondor stuff ready to paint - 2 small units +2 other models that complete a third unit. We'll see how much of that I manage to get done this month. Hm, three weeks left. Probably not all of them, then....
