You can definitely see the inspiration from the old-style Terminators - nice and retro.

This will be a purchase for me...

Believe me, that look was a thing in 40K LONG before the Warjacks were around.

It actually might have been a look before the people who made warjacks were even born.

Considering Mike McVey was the guy who originally designed the Warjacks that is probably not true.

That he also did design work for GW prior to joining on with PP is often cited as a reason for aesthetic similarities between the two (though that has diverged a bit over the years since he left).

Well, I imagine the smaller dreads are considerably more agile, and at least a Castraferrum can walk through most starship corridors without banging it's head

Not to take this thread into talking about the new ruleset but just FYI regarding 30k:

Anybody seen this yet?

I'm actually quite happy about this as otherwise I think the game would fall out of favor with the company and the playerbase - this will keep it more relevant.

But it does mean I hope the new rules are decent since 30k will depend on them!

Eh, already knew it would happen anyway, really. Still have to release more legions, and there is and will be more Mechanicum stuff.

Updating the Red books I would be fine with, I've always accepted that this would happen regardless if 8th edition happened or didn't happen. If they replaced the main HH books I would pitch a fit, those are much more expensive and the rules are only a few pages.

The big books are more for fluff that anything, well that was the reason I bought into them anyway.

I can put up with the red books changing, they would have needed redoing anyway as soon as we have all the chapters.

Did they alter that page recently? When I go to the Digital page it says HH will continue to use the current rules check the FB page for further information.

Well yes as it caught them out lying as in the original faq they said they had no plans for changing 30k for now. I guess they were worried that if people know it is changing sales will drop off until people know what is what. That slow down will be a pain for GW with 40k, FW have changed to base the entire company off 30k a month or more of massively reduced 30k sales could be fatal too them.

Besides how many 30k players will be happy that there £2000+ army is now only good for a game based on a rule set just a step above pushing green army men around going pew pew.

I for one have no intention of making anymore purchases from FW until after any changes have been announced and made.

He'll tin foil hat on time but maybe GW want HH dead and gone since they seem to be setting up HH2.0 and might not want to canablise sales. That might tie in with the people leaving FW not being replaced as it is being scaled back to Hobbit, random 40k stuff and AoS monsters.

To be honest, I don't see a contradiction. the original FAQ said
A few of you might be wondering how the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 affects Forge World’s Horus Heresy rules and army lists. Well, for the moment, it won’t! You can carry on using the existing Warhammer 40,000 ruleset for your Horus Heresy games.

Seems pretty clear from here that the Heresy rules would be going to 8th edition in time - just not on the day of release.

And the now deleted comment states 30k is dead shortly after 8th's launch. Where as"for the moment" seemed to give 30k a bit longer life span.

I was hoping that any change may have been delayed until after the initial train wreck that 8th looks to be had been fixed/amended/canned.

While we have limited information what we have has a massive effect on 30k. While the Morale system has minimal effect in 40k due to and they shall ignore all rules and the other dozen ways of ignoring it.
It is a fairly important part of 30k and 1 legion is more or less built around it. Even pinning is more of an issue again with a legion that uses it v.heavily.

Updating 30k rules sooner rather than later is important, imo, for exactly the uncertainty reasons you describe. Hopefully they'll be really clear about their plans, but with 8th edition going up for preorder in a month it shouldn't be long until we hear more!

At least they are offering these disclaimers for 30K prior to announcing a new Edition! Probably due to some of the negative feedback GW is getting for not refunding the Gathering Storm Books.

If I had had such a disclaimer for the Gathering Storm II, I wouldn't have wasted $52 on the book as I don't care for reading the narrative.

If certainty is what's important they could provide that equally well by assuring people their expensive books wouldn't be getting invalidated ahead of what was originally planned, ie that 30K would continue using 7th-AoD until the red books would naturally have been updated again perhaps next year. Or even better, by confirming that 30K would be remaining on its own AoD rules for the full run before being switched to only after Terra, so those who don't like 8th could keep playing the game they bought into in the first place with a full set of factions.

Certainty doesn't require them to switch to 8th at all, nevermind to do it quickly.

All of those options leave the changeover hanging ominously in the near future, do you really think people would buy any new books in that scenario? They've got to switch over to match the main ruleset, and ideally they'll get cracking on it, imo!

Whut? The assertion was that certainty was most important, all of those options give exactly that. And they don't have to switch to 8th at all, nobody is holding their family hostage and demanding they change HH to 8th to secure their release, they're choosing to do it. This isn't like the 6th-to-7th switch the entire core engine of the game is changing, unit profiles will be completely different, the entire morale system is going away ffs - they've got ~85% of the way through the series and now they're going to invalidate all of the expensive rules content that people have paid for well ahead of schedule and, into the bargain, make it impossible for people who end up disliking 8th to have complete rules for the series.

Lets be real here, if BL's nakedly commercial format shift for the HH novels was a wang move(and it absolutely was), this is an order of magnitude worse since at least BL continued producing the legacy format.

Yup. And Blood Angels, Dark Angels and White Scars will never get rules to match all the other Legions.

That's the clever way to do it - put out a somewhat cut-down version of the 7th Ed rules, fixing a few things - as a new 'Red Book' that allows them to release the remaining Legions/Robots/finish Terra.

Then release new red-books for the new Fisher-Price edition of 40K.

Yeah. And you do know that it makes sense business wise...While it sucks for those who would want to stay in 7th ed ultimately those will be so small number that it makes more money for FW to switch than stay or even worse do both.

Except that would put FW out of 8th edition for years which would cost them more money than they would gain.
