Anyone have any experience with weathering powders? Was thinking of picking up a couple to try out, but really don't want to spend the cash if inks are superior.

Inks and weathering powders are just vastly different in application. Dig up tutorials on powders first. They are unique in what they do and can be amazing, but take some getting used to.

Also, don't spend a fortune on FW powders (presumably your thinking, otherwise your thread choice for the post is a bit odd) when there's any number of quality powders you can access without the ludicrous premium you'll pay on postage as well as a higher than average price on the product (for no tangible advantage.)

True, this probably isn't the place for this question, just kinda saw the FW thread and jumped in. I don't find FW postage to be that bad, but adding in the taxes is a bit crazy when they're in another country entirely. What other brand would you recommend if not FW?

Mig or Ak interactive are great with a good variety of colors, but frankly if you just want to experiment get a model you don't care about and some natural colored pastel chalks from an art store, grind them into a powder and go play. If you like what you produce, then a finer grade to allow for more subtlety that you get with "proper" powder is probably worth spending on.

Mig productions has gone out of business and AK interactive had shenanigans involved. Mig's put out another new company - Ammo by Mig

This all over. Forgeworld are alright, but more expensive and no comparison to some of the others on the market

Well I kinda meant Mig as in "Mig Jimenez" rather than any specific brand, but yes, Ammo is the current one, although there was plenty of Mig Productions stuff still in channel when I last went shopping for weathering stuff 6 months or so ago.

I've only bought AK Interactive in stock through third party retail, so have been insulated from any shenanigans, is there a short 'don't drag the thread too much further off topic' summary somewhere?

Well, I thought it pertinent as you mentioned company names not the individual. But yes, I will shut my trap lest I summon Alph and his pictures and threats of Bane...

Still interested in the AK story if you feel like sending a Pm, but not so bothered that you should feel particularly compelled!

This is great advice.

The biggest reason I, personally, own a number of the FW powders is that I find them to be a bit more consistent than a few other companies I tried for certain colors(notably their ash and soot powders).

Aren't FW paints and powders repackaged Vallejo though?

They're repackaged somebody, don't know who specifically(haven't looked too deeply into it).

I've tried Tamiya and Vallejo powders and there was, at times, a notable difference in terms of the texture and color from the same color bought within a few months time from the same company.
It could have been bad luck or whatever, that's just my personal experience. I don't care who you give your money to at the end of the day.

Find the powders you want to use/work with. I, personally, like FW's when it comes to ash/soot and the faded green. I have Vallejo for mud and sand.

That has to be one of the goofiest looking tanks I've ever seen. The sheer size of that gatling gun is ridiculous and impractical.

Nonsense, anything fielded by the imperium is neither ridiculous nor impractical, and you should get four.
