Have a 30k force I'm using as Thousand Sons here, got their backside handed to them as they are in 30k configuration (so just bolt guns). not bothered with magnus as I hate that model, Ahriman is nice though for the double move.
The light smite is half decent as its coming from a unit not a character, think of it as a freebie really, useful against enemy characters if you position it right.
Going with two detachments, one as Thousand Sons with the Rubrics, the other as Tzeetch aligned CSM, who can bring Havocs (Heavy support squads) and Chosen (support squads). perfect? not really, but it works.
Not bothering with the rubric terminators, they are designed it appears to make modelling them with anything other than the actual box a PiTA, so just have my Tartaros in with the basic CSM.
Means missing out on a few buffs, but for a simplified game with defined terms as a concept I'm happy enough.
Guessing we will get four power aligned books and not a single book

- Rubric marines are worthless against anything but the most basic infantry. The weakened smite is absolutely laughable.
- Magnus is worthless and gets shot down in a single turn most of the time
- Daemon princes are worthless because of the lack of psychic phase
- Scarab occult lose in combat gainst a battlewagon. The fact that the sorcerer also got a weakened smite makes me want to cry. ML2 psyker got reduced to ML 0.2 psyker.
To summarize: unless your opponent brings nothing but tactical marines, you're fethed.
Anything I missed?
What armies did you play?
First game: Astra militarum scion/taurox spam with a Valkyrie. This game went okay-ish, I actually won barely. But I attribute this largely to a combination of lucky rolls/unlucky rolls and the fact that his army contained a large amount of MSU trash infantry (the only target Rubrics are good against).
Second game: It was a three-way battle between me, orks and Eldar. I brought Magnus for this game, BOY DOES HE SUCK. His psychic power seems nice, except that D6 mortal wounds (what you'll be getting most of the time) is really not impressive considering his points cost. He's fine in melee, but if your opponent catches him out of melee for a single turn you can probably kiss him goodbye.
Third game: Imperium (Named wolf lord, Thunderwolf cavalry, Wulfen, 2x blood claws, 1 ven dread, Bjorn, Custodes, Saint celestine, 2x sisters of silence)
This game went something like this: Ven dread gets 0 damage because frost shield, instantly kills one of my Helbrutes. Saint Celestine invokes act of faith to move 24". He clears a path through the rubrics around my Ahriman with her blade and some SoS shooting, charges him with Celestine and kills him instantly. Meanwhile, Custodes kill my Renegade knight and don't take a single casualty while doing so because my knight is hitting them on 5+'s. He's saving damn near everything because of the large amount of 3++.

Hmm. Well, can't Magnus cast Warptime on a 4+? I guess the way to use him is to jump as close as you can to the enemy without being within DTW range, then in your psychic phase Warptime right in their faces. Unfortunately, whilst MSU make great targets for Rubrics, it practically guarantees the enemy won't even need to Fall Back to get shooting at Big Red :/

They're absolute blenders.
Move 10" base, and then they can auto-advance another 6" so they're fast as hell. Then they get a bunch of bonus attacks against infantry (6 base, 8 if they charge), and good durability with 10W dread stats and the standard deamon engine regen. Instead of using the dumb old rage mechanic, they just can't fall back from infantry (but why the hell would you?). Harpoons give them +2" to their charge if they charge the unit they hit it with.
I'm glad I build two of the buggers.

Very nice, very nice indeed. Would ou say they're worth taking over cc Helbrutes?

Yes, i think they are. They are quicker in the fight, and deamon bound rules help survivability.
Also, if they have two CC weapons they got 7 attacks (9 against infantry).

180pts across the board, so not all that much more than a helbrute. Brutes have the benefit of more slightly more strength (slaughterers are 10), and no degrading stats, but overall I'd say slaughterers are superior even to maulerfiends.

Covenant of Tzeentch looks pretty ridiculous, not going to lie. The rest all look meh - Khorne only produces S4 guardsmen, Slaanesh only encourages you to advance with them (hahahahaha no) and Nurgle gives you a terribad Invuln save.
But +1 tohit for Overwatch? Oh my.

Tzeentch is so clearly the best one there. What is Nurgle even going to help you against? Power swords? You're dead anyway. Rival Rubricae firing at you in the open? Niche as Warp.
Roll 3D6 for charge and pick the best is fairly good for a conscript horde, I suppose. Will become amazing if Heroic Intervention gets updated to enable characters to join in charges (a not unlikely development, given how many Loyalists will be complaining about their Apothecaries and Ancients getting left behind).

It's missing some of the best pieces form the AM list. Taurox primes, for example.
Commisars are another missing piece that are awesome.
It's not a bad kit for the chaos toolchest, but it's not as good as AM.

You'll be happy to know I was not going to use the Slaughterer as a count as in my Slaanesh army. It was that fun that I had considered it
Overall, I'm decently happy that 8th so far has made the other 3 walkers, Fiends, Brutes and Decimators interesting and viable option. I gave up gaming mid way through 6th when balance was a real issue and sat out of 7th completely.
EDIT:
Has anyone given any thought to converting Lasher Tendrils for the Brute? My Hellbrutes are the SM dreads and I don't have the lasher option.

I skimmed through the rest of the responses on here, but has anyone already addressed the obvious slap in the face to non-god-dedicated chaos armies? I run nightlords and was thrilled to have a fluffy set of rules and special war gear to go with them, only to have it made completely invalid less than 6 months later...
That aside, I'm now running an outrider detachment since that's the only thing that supports my butt-loads of jump infantry running along side a trio of hq sorcery and a flyer DP

Have you been able to get any games in? How has your army performed? It sounds like a fun build - outmanoeuvring your opponent and always sticking your chainswords right where it hurts should allow you to pull off that Night Lords terror-tactics feel, at least in some cases. Deep-striking plasma Raptors could be a thing now, too.
