We know there are 41 Commanders in the book, and that the GSC Patriarch, AM Company Commander, and AM Tempusts Scion - all models only available in larger kits - are in. So the Commander boxes aren't so much "We'll make one for every datasheet in the book" as "we'll do one per Faction, where possible, so newer players have an obvious buy for their Faction."

There is also the Grey Knight character. It will be interesting to see what the Chaos Space Marines get for their commander option.
Probably something rage inducing.

I'm sure they'll get something like... Generic Chaos Lord, Generic Chaos Sorcerer, and the Dark Apostle.
One of the rumor engines points very strongly at there being a new Chaos Sorcerer coming down the line pretty soon. Hopefully the rest of the Chaos line gets some love soon too. We'll see.

They Grey Knight Commander - the Brotherhood Champion - was built out of the Strike Squad kit. The only standalone palstic HQ they have currently is Voldus (and the Terminator Librarian from the main Marine range). So they won't get a Commander box until an expansion introduces Terminators and the like or a new power armor HQ is made for them.
CSM is almost certainly going to be the Aspiring Champion model.

You don't.
Remember, the box isn't the "Commissar" box with rules for using Commissars in Kill Team. This is the "Feodor Lasko" box, with rules for using Feodor Lasko in Kill Team.
Unless there are tactic cards only in the box...

The only plastic options we have will be the Aspiring Champion Vrosh Tattersoul model with axe and combi bolter, and maybe the Sorcerer.
Wait, Sorcerer is Resin.
Vrosh Tattersoul is the only plastic kit they could possibly use.

Most (all?) of those are Elites not HQs. I'm not sure how much of a difference that will make for this, but I don't think we've seen any Elites shown yet.

Aspiring Champion obviously since that's their go-to plastic kit.
Then...terminator sorceror?

Anyone else notice that they state commanders are for high-point games? I don't know about other factions, but most of those Primaris models are 80+ pts in 40k. Can't see them getting much lower. Maybe this is something for Kill Team Apocalypse?

I feel like I should just start posting this everytime the thread hits a new page:
Rogue Trader has the core Commander rules, which basically summarize as:
When you add a Commander to your roster, you choose what level they are and which Traits you want to take for them. They do not gain XP, they are fixed once added. Points wise, the two in RT start in the 40s and can max out at over 150 - so they are significant portions of your list.
They can only be used in missions that either explicitly say all players must bring Commanders or that they may mutually agree to do so - there is no being surprised by a Broodlord in a standard mission. Kill Teams with Commanders are built on 150 points.
Commanders yield an extra XP for a specialist or fire team that takes them out of action. They have their own casualty table and can’t be killed. A specialist taken out by a COmmander has a slightly higher chance of getting another XP with their Casualty roll.
So yes, they are very powerful, but they won’t be showing up all the time. They also give high damage weapons a better purpose in Kill Team - being able to knock them down from full Wounds to 0 and forcing an Injury roll on 4 or more dice is much more significant on a 90 point model instead of a 9 point one.
Obvs the Commander expansion proper may adjust/expand on this - but I'm totally confident this is the core of it.

In this specific example, you are in with some luck. The plastic Commissar is one of the few that actually has some options- the sprue has both a plasma pistol and a bolt pistol. I built my own one with a bolt pistol. Hopefully power fists and chainswords will also be an option, but bolt pistols definitely will be!

Seeing as there is currently no alternate profile for them to get confused with, you could happily proxy your standard Librarian as a Primaris Librarian. This does annoy me too though.

It's not so much for the people that are being willfully obtuse, as those that honestly aren't aware this info exists and (reasonably for a 130-odd page thread) have missed it here.

We've had Guard commanders, Tempestor Primes, and Patriarchs confirmed, all of which are only available as part of a larger boxset. I think Exalted Sorcerors will be in.

Pretty sure the question there wasn't "What Commanders could they have in the book?" but "What could be packed as a single model for a Commader Faction box?"

Thousand Sons: Tzaangor Shaman is the only real option.
Death Guard: Biologis Putrifier, or any of the other one-off new characters. There's like 8 of them.
Heretic Astartes: Dark Apostle or Aspiring Champion. One is resin, the other plastic, they're the only modern kits that are one-off models unless we get some new characters in a hurry.

That's correct. I wouldn't be surprised to even see some resin commanders in the book itself just to give people options but the specially packaged boxes kinda need to be a single, plastic kit.

The sad part is if it weren't jammed down your throat in the Scions or Cadian Start Collectings...I'd be tempted.
As it stands, that's something going on the Christmas list/stocking stuffer suggestions rather than "I needs it!".

Sure, it has nothing to do with the Marine forces on Vigilus being Primaris...it's all to get rid of old stock!
It's funny how commentary like this ignores the Grey Knight and Watch Master, both are 'regular' Marines.
