It is really interesting that the Genestealer Cult list does not include the Iconward! We saw a mocked up product for him not long ago, wonder why that changed?

Wait, Sorcerer is Resin.

Vrosh Tattersoul is the only plastic kit they could possibly use.

Well, if we're reaching, Ahriman from discontinued HH box could make TS sorcerer, and the Word Bearer chaplain from the other could make Dark Apostle. Both are kinda unlikely, though...

Though, this could be a way to keep them in circulation outside of HH boxes.

Imperial and Xenos commanders altogether so far are 33 commanders (not counting the Primaris duplicates for Deathwatch). That leaves 8 Commanders for Chaos.

Also, the text on the Big Mek clearly mentions that you can choose to equip him with a shokk attack gun. So at least some commanders will have options.

Res Orb for the Necrons, makes them a bit better at least, 3CP though and my luck I’d roll a 1.
Cryptek would be the pick probably. Depending on his rules..

I always assumed they would, like much of the KT guys do.
But nice to know a bit more concrete

Have pointed out the missing Iconward on the FB post and they are looking into it

Surprised at the Death Jester and Haemoculus being included but yay for them!

Level 4 Broodlord being 196 means there will be some mechanism to increase points level past the 150 base for Commander missions.

As for the Chaos Commanders: assuming the Iconward brings the Imperial+Xenos count to 34, leaving 7 for Chaos, I figure:

Heretic Astartes: Aspiring Champion

Death Guard: Malignant Plaguecaster, spin the wheel for three of the clampack characters (or possibly two and the Noxious Blightbringer)

Thousand Sons: Exalted Sorcerer, Tzaangor Shaman

Well, the Escalation rule in campaign already allows up to 150 points, and there are missions like Ambush which grant an addional bonus points. I'm guessing that when you play with a Commander you'll just get another 50 points to spend like how Rogue Trader works, so that would bring the current max up to 220.

Also the RT campaign allowed free upgrades for the commanders after every mission I believe.

I expect there to be such mechanisms, it will be interesting to see how they end up working in detail

The RT campaign is just the 4 narrative missions from the book linked together, with the Commanders being free and automatically leveling up after each mission (and the winner getting a free Trait) and 100 points for the rest of the KT - not really a good example for how they will mesh into standard campaign play.

Will they? There is no current plastic Sorceror in power armour, and the probably upcoming Sorceror shows no indication of being released in time for the Commanders expansion.

I think we will see a HA Sorceror, but not for some time.

There is some curious Commanders there like the Great Harlequin one, placeholder for future models or just use a mock up normal model?

Isn't the Warlock resin? They could conceivably do the resin CSM Sorcerer as well (which I didn't really know existed until right now). Or be fancy and drop the plastic one we're all dreaming about here Or do none of the above and keep HA strangled for options with just the Aspiring Dude. Which I don't yet own so might take the tiny overpriced box plunge.

True, I thought that was odd when I was reading it! There is a plastic Warlock, but only on jetbike. I'm surprised they didn't add the Spiritseer.

Yeah, the lack of a current plastic kit leads me to think it won't be in this book. This does lead to the interesting question of "How does GW plan to integrate future model releases into Kill Team?" All it would take is a PDF with the datasheet and a line saying "Here's a new thing for Kill Team" after all. But I doubt a Kill Team book release will "preview" future model releases like this.

You mean the Troupe Master? That is just a build/paint out of the standard Troupe kit.

I thought that bit was interesting. We'd already seen all of the sets we're supposed to get via Commanders back at the showcase a month or so ago. That's what made the lack of the Iconward interesting...but "first batch" when there's only two we aren't seeing for preorder? That's weird right?

I figure they will keep doing smaller releases of Commander boxes for, well, pretty much the life of the line. The ones shown at the Weekender are likely the ones they had boxes ready and printed for/are the ones slated for release in the next month or two (which means we'll see the Iconward and Broodlord before long), with more coming further out.

ETA: Catching up with the Warlock discussion: yeah, if they are willing to dip into resin for the Warlock, then the Sorceror is a lot more likely for HA - especially if it ends up being "Tide over for a few months with the resin before the plastic releases." So I'd add that to the HA list and drop one of the random Death Guard characters.

As for the Spiritseer: her schtick is making Warith things better, so I'll expect to see her introduced alongside them in a future expansion (likely the same one with Terminators and the like).

Sure, but this is literally only two boxes that got missed out on.

Saying that it's "the first batch" is just bizarre when people who attended the events and saw photos from the events know there's just two missing...

I'm hoping that what is going to be happening is this will be part of a concerted effort to bring some models out of Start Collecting sets(the Ethereal on Hover Drone and Commissar) while reworking those SC sets and simultaneously introduce some more stuff into the Vigilus setup.

Just two missing out of what was previewed at the Weekender. That's not the same thing as just two missing out of all the named Commander boxes they plan to release ever.

Okay.

There is a reason why I highlighted the phrasing of "first batch".
Batch implies it's a specific grouping, usually with a decent number of items. Yes or No?

This Saturday sees 8 out of the 10 sets previewed at the Weekender go up for preorder.

I literally was just calling attention to the phrasing and the fact that out of the sets we'd seen previewed at the Weekender, the only two missing were the ones that had a bit of blowback against them. People aren't too fond of the Iconward since he's in Tooth & Claw as well and the Broodlord is a hit/miss model that has been in several sets now.

Lol by that line of thinking the blowback against the Commissar box would have retroactively erased it from existence by now!

You sure about that? I counted 35, did you count both comissars/lord comissars and platoon/company commanders?

That might explain why the Harlequin Kill Team box was “delayed”; it’ll come with a Commander (at least, the bits for one) in the box.

Problem is there's no other potential character options for a solo set on the Commissar...since the Tempestor and Commanders come with a box of infantry. Not unless they give us something new.

The Iconward has a few potential options(the Abominant which seemingly was absent from the list...and the as yet unknown gunslinger character) that could take its place with an art swap on the box and a change on the cards.

Or they just decided it would make for a better thematic pairing with something other than T'au - like, say, Heretic Astartes since their whole thing is hating on Chaos extra hard.

Yeah, no. That's not how production and manufacturing works. See also: the Techpriest Dominus which has gotten just as much, if not far more stink eye, than either the Iconward or the Broodlord, and has the Engineseer as an alternative.

And Aeldari hate on Necrons extra hard, yet Tau got released with them.

Hell the Tau have a bigger grudge with the Drukhari than they do Necrons.

Yeah, no. That's not how production and manufacturing works.

It is when you're basically the entire chain. Worth mentioning that quite a few of these items are/were Direct Only in recent memory.

See also: the Techpriest Dominus which has gotten just as much, if not far more stink eye, than either the Iconward or the Broodlord, and has the Engineseer as an alternative.

The Techpriest Dominus gets "stink eye" because it's currently in the Start Collecting set for a discounted price($37 Skitarii+$66 Onager+$36[repeat a dollar fricking less than the Skitarii set of 10] Dominus) and also present in Forgebane.

While I would have much preferred the Enginseer, if the prices we've had leaked are accurate then the Enginseer is going to be $35 in this setup rather than the $36 he is now--opening the way for them to repackage or just plain drop the other version.

Pretty much the entire point of the Harlequins as a miliatary force is "stick it to Chaos". Fighting everyone else is...kind of secondary.

Entire or chain or not doesn't matter: if they were slotted to be released on the 20th with the rest, by the time we all found out about them, all those boxes and cards would have been printed, everything would have been boxed up, and in warehouses and out to third party distributors, etc. They aren't gonna pull them back and scrap all printed material (including the stock for making restocks) that just cause some randos are salty on the internet.

"People are complaining cause the Broodlord and Iconward have already been a bunch of sets!"

"Like the Dominus?"

"That's different cause reasons!"

Keep them goalposts going
