Nice find I never even knew they made such a kit!

It's always amazing what kits can turn up even unbuilt in the backlog of collectors piles of unfinished models.

I have contacted FW to try to get an idea of how many made it into circulation....as they had a ridiculous price tag

Sadly a lot of the "limited edition" stuff that makes its way to ebay with insane price tags tend to sit there for years because they are insane prices. The resellers on those sites don't mind waiting because they basically wait it out for the huge profit gains that they hope to get. For rare stuff it works, because you do reach a point where the stupid high priced option is the last option or at least the only one that remains there, whilst any that might appear vanish pretty fast

Be interesting if you hear back from FW as to how many made it out there. I've not even seen this mentioned anywhere so I'm guessing not many. Then again Tyranid Capillary towers were out for a good while and they only get mentioned very rarely - then again I'm aware most hold a nostalgic desire to own them but never picked them up when they were out.

It looks like a huge fortified gateway. Two towers either side of the gates doors and a bit of wall either side. A terrain feature

A few images down it shows it alongside two extra armed wall segments.

I once entertained the idea of purchasing that set, but then GW started making fortifications in plastic.

Nice! Did you buy the one that was on ebay for a while? I was very tempted by it, but having bought a plane recently I couldn't make the money work out at the time.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

No a buddy of mine knew a guy who wasnt really in the hobby anymore and put me in contact. I got it for original MSRP which was an insane deal.

I am so jealous. The one on ebay was ~$5,000 and I'm pretty sure it sold for that much.

Dude.
Sorry to micturate on your chips but that's a recast.
Everything screams wrong from the tiny bags to the photocopied instructions and really bad gates.

I don't agree.

FW kits of that vintage were renowned for needing quite a bit of work prior to assembly. And it's only very recently (last couple of years to my knowledge) that their instructions haven't been photocopies on A4.

I mean, I just bought some web exclusive cold one knights and I got a pretty poorly photocopied instruction booklet with them so I don't think you can discredit the kit based on that point.

In relation to the gates, some of them are pretty dodgy looking but most are fine. Forgeworld stuff also does come in a lot of smaller bags based on unboxing videos from YouTube, especially the bigger kits.

It's probably of the same or better quality then.

FW instructions are always photocopies. I've literally picked up a Leviathan from Warhammer World and the instructions were on an A4 photocopy.

The newer models designed digitally have the same sort of instructions as new GW kits, because they’re generated from the CAD files.

However, there’s nothing in that photo that “proves” it’s a recast. Some people just like jumping to conclusions.

ROFL...Yeah okay buddy. You think I havent dealt with FW and recasts for the 25+ years I been in this hobby? First, there are no recasters who produce this thing, if there was I already would have owned this thing. You think I didnt look for one in 6 years I been searching for it? Second, it's the right resin, again, been dealing with FW for a decade and china/russian cast. Third, and most importantly it came in the original box it was shipped from GW, with the original shipping label. Oh and the receipt for purchase, but i didnt post a pic of that because it has the original owners personal info, so you clearly have zero idea what you are talking about.

Hell, it even still had the stupid little FW catalog from that year that they throw in every box.....

And TBH who cares if something that old and hard to find is a recast, as long as the casting quality is good. Even if it was a recast do you really think the OP is going to send it back and wait even more years to maybe see a real one? Of course not.

Nice find. There was some resin 3rd party that was making imperial/sci-fi walls with gates, etc which were awesome but I cannot find anymore.

OOPHammer is tough stuff.

Still want a new-in box set of battle cannon turrets and that huge plasma cannon building. A lot of the best stuff seems to have been low production.

Also as for recasts, that might actually help those older pieces. Many of them were warpy, bad casts, etc.

The towers (both legit and less legit) seem to be more available than the spore chimney. I have a set of the towers, and unfortunately I procrastinated on buying the chimney too. Then when I found out about FW's mass purge of terrain kits, the chimney was already sold out. One pops up for sale now and then fetching a price a little too rich for my blood.

Back on topic...congrats to the OP for a great find.

I've got two sets of towers... and no chimney. It's a hard thing to find.
